I've had vb on my site since 2002. My data usage is 1.39gb and my attachment usage is 1.20gb. My problem is that my host only runs php4 so I can't upgrade to a newer version of vb, but all the hosting companies I've looked at have maximum database sizes of around 200mb (though I saw a godaddy linux plan with a 1gb limit). Oh yeah, I've got to stick with a shared hosting-style plan. I pay for this stuff out of my pocket so the income isn't there to support any kind of dedicated hosting.

Either way, my database is just too large, but I don't know how to shrink it. I REALLY don't want to delete old posts. My forum is one of only 2 that serve a fairly small community and there's alot of accumulated knowledge that would be lost in a purge.

What are my options? Can I split the current database into multiples? Can older posts be archived, but still searchable and have all their info intact including attachments?

HELP!

Move all images to file system including attachments. You cannot restrict db size because it grows everytime a member joins, posts, uploads an image, or you adding a modification.

A host that places a database size limit is really not suitable.
