vb:raw - How does it work?

I'm trying to add a few things to my homepage. It looks like the you can write {vb:raw templatetitlehere} but I can't get it to work. I tried {vb:raw block_newposts} and I get nothing. Is there any guide that explains how it works?

I read that article before I posted this thread but it doesn't explain how it works. What would I have to write in order to get the forum block?
