I'm using AME 2.5 right now, works great, but doesn't play attachments. I have DJ's AME definitions for local files, but that only works for NON-attached local files.
There was this thread: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=72162
But 'was' is keyword - it no longer exists.
Does anyone know of a mod that will allow users to have an embedded player to play attached video files ?

I didn't get into vB until after the 3.5 series, so I'm just guessing here. But I don't think vB distinguishes file types, other than images, in vB attachments. Like I said, I'm guessing, but it may be a limitation with vB itself. That's the only reason I can think of that it hasn't been done since vB 3.0.

It's too bad that thread no longer exists (at least, the mod in the thread is no longer online) as it might actually work.
Although earlier today I got "Goldbrick" (mod) working with attachments. The only problem being it's trying to load quicktime to play MPGs instead of Mediaplayer. Grr. :(
I would *PAY* for simple all-in-one embedded media player if it would work with YouTube as well as attachments.

That's one of the reasons why I suspect why it can't be worked out any longer. It seems at one time, attachments used unique extensions, whereas they're all the same now. Maybe someone can confirm my suspicion, as it seems it would need core file rewriting this time to make it work.

Hm... well Goldbrick works fine for attachments (I've tested it with Divx(AVI)) but the only other attachment I have which is MPG, it tries to load QuickTime. 'Would be nice if it would use Mediaplayer instead, since nobody uses quicktime and therefore nobody has it installed.

^^ If that last one could by default load MediaPlayer instead.... that would be excellent.

I was under the impression MPG was supposed to load in QuickTime by default. I know if the file is MPEG-2, it will only play in QuickTime Pro.
No one has it installed? It's a standard inclusion with, well, every PC I've ever dealt with. In any event, Windows Media Player still won't play MPG without the proper codec.

Heck no. QuickTime is an APPLE product. It's never come standard on a PC. It has always had to be downloaded separate. And the main video players out there, aside from Windows MediaPlayer, is VLC Player. But 99% of the population still just use Mediaplayer.
Quicktime is just as popular as the .mov format that it was made to support (which is not popular at all) Maybe 7yrs ago some people used Quicktime. But it's loooong gone as a popular media player. (aside from Mac users probably) Both Quicktime/MOV and RealPlayer/RM player/formats went out the door long ago.
And I'm not sure what MPGs you're referring to - Windows MediaPlayer (WMP) play mpg just fine, stock.
Anyway, my point is.. Goldbrick uses a long defunct player which nobody uses anymore, try and play mpgs, so for mpgs, Goldbric is useless unfortunately.

QuickTime comes out the box with many PCs. I'm not sure where you got the idea that no one uses it anymore. But in any case, what I'm saying is, your MPG video isn't playing inline with my updated QuickTime either, and when I download it it causes Windows Player to freeze up. It appears to be a corrupted file.
A codec isn't something that comes stock with your player, but something that your PC has installed. So not everyone will have the same ones depending on what came with their PC. There's some useful info here all of that: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316992
