Hi,
My old forum was always in the /forum directory of my site and i used vbadvanced CMPS in the root older. If I change the forum, to the root folder, what seems the way to do... would this effect in any way my google links.. ? So the links from google to my site ?
I have a lot of visitors from google coming o my website, around 50% can find me in the searchs of google, so if I change to another folder, what would that give for effect on my forum ? I also have vbseo, btw.. Don't know if this would effect in any way...
What would be the wise thing to do.. just keep the forum inside the /forum direcory, or just to change this to the new way and to have it inside the root folder of my website ? I tested VB4 on my test forum and look quite ok, not yet completed, but in work in progress I would say...
Thanks.

If you want to have your forum in the root then you will have to move the forum files from the forum folder to the root and then update the url at Settings-Options-Site Name / URL / Contact Details-Forum URL.
Yes, the urls will change. Whereas about the vbseo I can''t say as I don''t use the mod myself.
Regarding if it would be a wise thing to move the forum or not, it is up to you. It is your forum, your call.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply... I do understand how to change, as I have tested this also, but my problem is I don;t have enough info on this on how it would effect my forum. Like mentioned, my seo is good, I have 50% traffic from google... So, I don;t want to loose the traffic ofcourse, so will this affect my google links yes or no.. ?
I do understand it's my call, but what do you ( all who's reading :P ) think is best to handle, I have seen some forums change to the root directory and some not... So I believe there is no any clear info on what is best ... or am I mistakken.. ?
Best regards,

Open content.php with notepad or index.php with notepad and look at bottom ;)

Thanks for the fast reply :)
but any explanation ? As I allready mentioned that 50% of the users come from google.. as it is in /forum at this moment... will this change when I change the directory to the root folder ?
I know, changing to the root folder is a good step... but I don't want to make a good step, when loosing so much :)
Thanks.

How long has it been in /forum ? If any of your pages have been in /forum then your best leaving it alone.
In your root folder create an index.html file and make it redirect to /forum
Example would be like my site http://www.vbdiscussions.com

It has been there for a couple of years... that is what is keeping me from changing to the root folder, as google will hate for changing it I assume ;)
hmm... I also don't want to redirect... hmm...
Maybe there is a way on using the cms in the root folder ? or both... any ideas left ? :)

You can try vBAdvanced lol but try putting content.php in your root and opening content.php with Notepad and entering your forumpath.

Why not just put a 301 redirect from your domain to the forum directory?
Thats what I do.
EDIT- well i guess I saw you dont want to redirect. But look at whats ChopSuey said. Try putting the content.php file in your root.

Hi. I purchased vb suite 4.0.2. It is my first time installing and using this kind of product. And I have a question totally relates to this subject.
This is what happened.
I have installed vbulletin at /www/forum/ as tutorial shows. When I connect to my server through FTP program, there's already 'www'folder which I assume it does the same function as root folder.Currently I have to enter 'www.ebaysellerforum.co.kr/forum' to see the forum.
But I want to only enter 'www.ebaysellerforum.co.kr' to see my forum.
Here are my questions.
1. I want people to only enter 'www.ebaysellerforum.co.kr' to see the forum. To be able to do this do I need to have my forum folder in root folder not in /root/forum folder?
2. Then after moving the forum folder to the root folder, what do I exactly need to do to make 'www.ebaysellerforum.co.kr' to show my forum? Could you tell me step by step as it is my first time installing and using this kind of stuff?

Move your forum files from the forum folder in the root and then go to the Acp-Settings-Options-Site Name / URL / Contact Details. And where it says: Forum URL enter http://www.ebaysellerforum.co.kr
Hope it helps.

I moved all my forum files to the root then went to ACP-settings-options-site name/url/contact deatils to change 'forum url'. I did all that. But it doesn't work.
It shows me a message from my web host saying that your requested web hosting account setting is completed. Is there anything else I need to do?
There's index.php file and index.html file in my root folder. Does it have anything to do this this situation?
Also the message from my web host says in the 'www'folder you must have a file called either index.html, index.htm, or index.php.
At the moment I have both.
Help please~!
