I am thinking of putting an html site intro onto my site, would it affect SEO? If so, how much?
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Its really bad to have flash pages if thats what your going to be using.
But HTML pages are file they get indexed ;)

"Intros" or "Splash pages" are really unnecessary and uneeded, you should avoid doing do at all costs.

well its an index.html file. and you click on images to navigate to specific pages, and it has a video that you click play in the middle of the page.

We use a sliced intro html page for the root of our site
www.australiabound.org/index.html
It is just there really for the odd user who finds us via this means :)

I have a similiar one TimberFloorAu. Except the intro page is composed of images that you click on with a video in the middle.
How is your SEO though Timberfloor?
Because I hear these intros cause SEO to go down, so I am wondering if I should install this or not....How much will it affect SEO? my new index would be www.brotherhoodofgamers.com/index.html
so anyone?

Like anything with SEO nobody really knows, one camp will say it isn't an issue, another camp will say that it could have a minor effect and yet another camp will insist that your site will be destined to go to hell in a hand basket.
IMHO / IME the welcome text block, especially the default VB one, does nothing to help your site from an SEO perspective. The logic being that this text is at the top of just about every guest page and doesn't contain any keywords relevant to what people might be searching for.
I would either remove it, make it keyword rich or replace it with an image (search engines can't index image content)

K since people aren't really answering my question... I decided to upload the intro page to my site, go to www.brotherhoodofgamers.com
Look at the intro page "index.html" and tell me, how would that affect SEO or would it at all?

I really doubt it's going to affect seo. it's your original content that truly affects page rank.
That looks really sharp btw.

Well lets look at the different aspects:
as it stands vb suite defaults to forum folder with forum and content (.php) being the landing pages
Seems weird to me that a suite sits in a folder natively.
Therefore if you look at link depth, vb as it stands defies the old common rules.
So in my view a landing page in the domain root as a portal to other areas of your site should not detract or indeed hurt you.
From an seo perspective its like anything, if you try and spam the system, your gonna get penalised, but if it stands on its own merits in place of a redirect then why not ?

K I guess I will keep the intro page for a couple of days and keep an eye on my google analytics and see if I notice any negative results from it.
Thanks on the compliment about the intro page :)

Hey quick question... sorry for double post.
Since I uploaded index.html, it appears my vbadvanced cmps is not there anymore, since i guess it overwrote the other html. So what files to rename/delete or what to do to make my vbadvanced cmps work again?
--------------- Added 1267403993 at 1267403993 ---------------
Ok so my vbadvanced index is named index.php and my intro page is named index.html My home button on my site takes me to index.html instead of index.php like it used to before, I have no idea why it takes me to a different page if it always used to take me to index.php and now instead takes me to index.html (the intro page)
And the intro page when you click home takes me to forum.php when its set for index.php. and clicking on forums on the intro page also takes you to forum.php but forums button is set for forum.php
Eh anyone know how to fix this? :)

.html always takes precedence over .php

k well any way to make my index.php still act as the vbadvanced cmps? Because clicking home on the intro page and clicking home on the site tabs on top left, still takes you to either forums (from intro) or to intro (from tabs)
