Hi!
I started a Harry Potter (with a little bit of Pokemon, on request from a co-mod) forums last year, called the Diagon Alley Forums at http://www.thediagonalley.com/forums
I'm not a very tech-oriented person, so I can't edit CSS and other coding, so I have a default style on it.
The most important thing I'd like from your critiques is what I can do to make the site more appealing to users. In about 6 months, I've got only 14 members, of which only 5 are active. I'd like to know how to make it more well-known and how to make users enjoy their visits to the site.
On a side note, the forums come with a Harry Potter news website at http://www.thediagonalley.com where I write news articles and publish essays and articles by other people.

Too many empty sections. Either populate them or merge them with other sections.

To advertise, just post a link on any promotion type forums, they seem to give you plenty of hits.

hmm , well, the site itself is not very attractive , like you said not very CSS talented, you can take some crash courses for 3-4 hours and you can make your site look better...

In terms of attracting new people... as Speysider said , just go to Related sites , forums, and become an active user there, with signatures etc.. eventually people will come to your site , and thats how you start growing..
