Info:
This hack automatically creates a birthday thread in the forum you select. Only members that allow their date of birth to be displayed will be listed, and age will be shown only for those who has chosen that. Members are shown in colors defined in usergroup settings. You can choose to exclude inactive members. Several users can be set as greeters (used randomly when posting). Thread will be created first time when someone loads forumhome after midnight.

Notes:
-This executes 1 very simple query on forumhome/in target forum.
-mktime() error? Check out this post (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=1993740&postcount=39).

Installation:
-Import XML file (as product) through AdminCP: Plugin System > Manage Products > [Add/Import Product]

Anyway we could include the data from this script in the thread ???

http://www.joeswebtools.com/wordpress-plugins/born-on-this-day/

So It says :

You also share your birthday with,:-

Bing Crosby
Edgar Allan Poe
Jacque Cousteau

etc ?

Hornstar
02-17-2010, 07:07 PM
So it creates just 1 thread with all the birthdays listed in it? That sounds pretty good.

Valter

One thread per day, like it's shown on screenshot:

Important things to check:
- Target forum: this must be set in product options (menu select)
- Greeter: This field must be filled in product options (value = userid)
- Exclusion settings: users must pass these to be included in birthday thread (product options)
- User options: Users who has chosen not to show birthday info will be excluded

Mine works - I just had to set my clock to +1 to match server time. What DIDN'T work, however, was entering multiple Greeters. For whatever reason, it only selected one and posted it from the one member. Strangely, his UserID was not the first or last.

Is there a maximum number of Greeter(s) allowed?

Thanks! Been waiting for this one. :)

Edit: Could you please describe how the hack gets the server time from the misc.php?do=vsa_servertz page? I've been trying to troubleshoot an issue with my Scheduled Tasks being hours off but no one on VBulletin.com can figure it out and it appears that the same issue on my server is affecting this mod too. It says the Server Time is currently 14:03 but yet when I log into the server from RDP (it's a windows box), it's 9:03am... All of my timezone settings that I can find are set to GMT -5 (Eastern).

Edit: Nevermind, found the UTC datetime in the php.ini file. Thank you though - this issue has been bugging me forever and your mod reminded me to investigate it further rather than just manually adjusting the scheduled tasks by 5 hours. :)

Not limited by product.

Just list them separated by commas.

They are used randomly.

Valter i just installed it and now i have a error msg and the VSA-Chatbox is all messed up.

Warning: mktime() expects parameter 1 to be long, string given in [path]/includes/class_bootstrap.php(399) : eval()'d code on line 23

After i disabled the Auto Birthday Greeter the chatbox was normal again.

I also noticed after the upgrade that it instantly created a new thread for somebody that had his birthday on 01-01 but it created a thread today.

I had 6 threads created on my forum between 11 and 1125pm LAST NIGHT.

3 threads for each day. There is totally something wrong with this update. My server time is completely different than the time I use on my forum. I use MST for my forum but my server is hosted in California.

See screen shot.
This was working PERFECTLY before I upgraded.

It actually created 7 threads --- I am deleting all but the one people are replying to. The one I didn't notice actually did go at Midnight.

Hello,

I see now that the addon don't create threads for people who have birthday.
Can it maybe changed so that a VB task will be generated to create the birthday threads?
Since I have now 2.0.3 installed the Threads will be not created anymore.

Same thing with me. My time zone is GMT, but it didn't post the thread until 1845hrs!

It also included a couple of people whose birthday is on the following day, but are on the opposite side of the world.

It's such a shame, as it could be such a good modification if it worked well.

Yeah, I had the same issue a while ago, and so did many other people.

I don't think this hack is supported any more, so subsequently many people (me included) have disabled this mod.

Shame, because this is potentially a good idea.

Use CSS. Change:

- opening tag to:
<span style="color:#0000FF;font-weight:bold;">
- closing tag to:
</span>
- 'User title' to:
<span style="color:#0000FF;font-weight:bold;">Modding Guru</span>

Change red part to color code you want to use for selected usergroup.

What about the wonky date issue? It's frustrating to see someone get their birthday greeting on the right day, but with the actual shown date one day behind.

But for some reason there is no happy birthday post on the forum.

Anyone know what is causing this issue?

Ok, had a problem with this mod, the first one I've had since starting to use it both on v3 and now on v4.0.4pl1 ..

For some reason, yesterday it posted 40 posts (two pages) saying "Happy Birthday" to the same 2 members... :eek:

The posts seem to be arriving every 10 minutes or so....

It's as if the cron job kept cycling, even though it had already made the single post it should have for each of those 2 members.

Anyone ever had this happen to them? :confused:

Regards,
Badger

Well, it's been posting repeating messages all day, almost every hour ... :eek:

I don't think it's compatible with 4.04 ...

I even completely un-installed it and re-installed it, but still the issue remains ....

I hate to uninstall it, but without a fix it's going to drive everyone crazy ... :D

Use CSS. Change:

- opening tag to:
<span style="color:#0000FF;font-weight:bold;">
- closing tag to:
</span>
- 'User title' to:
<span style="color:#0000FF;font-weight:bold;">Modding Guru</span>

Change red part to color code you want to use for selected usergroup.

I didn't realize you had answered me until the same thing happened again this morning! I changed the HTML to the CSS you suggested. Now I have to wait for another birthday for someone with the custom CSS markup! ;)

Thanks!:up:

Edit:
BTW, I haven't had the double-post issue in neither 4.0.3, 4.0.4 or now that I'm on 4.0.5. There must be something else conflicting. Maybe if everyone with the issue posts their list of hacks installed, we may see a pattern.

Update:

Have a member's birthday today, Sept 10th ...

The post automatically placed in the forum we specified was added with a date yesterday (1 member is celebrating their birthday on 09-09-2010) with a time of 2:50 pm... :confused:

I don't remember seeing that post in that forum last night, so I'm beginning to wonder if the mod automatically put it there just after midnight today as it should have, however, it tagged it with the wrong date and time on the post itself? In other words, it's recognizing that it should put this member's birthday notice in the forum on today's date, but when it carries out the posting action it's using yesterday's date and some arbitrary time, which I haven't figured out where it's getting that information from.

Hope this helps Valter figure out what's happening with this recent version.

Badger

I've had this installed for a while now, even on 4.0, and it's been working OK, it just posted the thread too early (about an hour before midnight or so), so I just had to manually edit the date inside the thread. Which wasn't a problem, because not a lot of birthday threads were posted.

But today I had to disable it. I had two members who had a birthday, and during the night, this script posted over 100 threads :S

Hopefully there'll be an update soon, because I really like this script!

The original code used the vbdate()-function in a way that created bogus times, which actually is a design flaw in the function itself. However, since the Unix timestamp is independent from the default timezone settings i see no point in the original logic anyway, unless you alter the code to take advantage of vbdate's built in hourdiff mechanism, but since that mechanism uses the current users timezone you could get pretty unpredictable times.

I have altered the code so that a current UTC time is first created and then modified with the forums' timezone setttings to create a local forum time. In short, the product works fine now with the following changes.

Replace:

$vsaabgreeter_servertime = mktime('0'.date('H', TIMENOW), '0'.date('i', TIMENOW), '0'.date('s', TIMENOW), '0'.date('m', TIMENOW), '0'.date('d', TIMENOW), '0'.date('Y', TIMENOW), -1);
$vsaabgreeter_forumtime = mktime('0'.vbdate('H', TIMENOW), '0'.vbdate('i', TIMENOW), '0'.vbdate('s', TIMENOW), '0'.vbdate('m', TIMENOW), '0'.vbdate('d', TIMENOW), '0'.vbdate('Y', TIMENOW), -1);

$vsaabgreeter_propertime = TIMENOW;
if ($vsaabgreeter_servertime > $vsaabgreeter_forumtime)
{
$vsaabgreeter_timeoffset = $vsaabgreeter_servertime - $vsaabgreeter_forumtime;
$vsaabgreeter_propertime = TIMENOW - $vsaabgreeter_timeoffset + 10;
}
else
{
$vsaabgreeter_timeoffset = $vsaabgreeter_forumtime - $vsaabgreeter_servertime;
$vsaabgreeter_propertime = TIMENOW + $vsaabgreeter_timeoffset + 10;
}

$vsaabgreeter_execdate = date('m-d', $vsaabgreeter_propertime);

$vsaabgreeter_done = false;
$vsaabgreeter_posted = $vbulletin->db->query_read(" SELECT daydone FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "vsa_birthdaythread WHERE daydone = '".$vbulletin->db->escape_string($vsaabgreeter_execdate)."' ");

if ($vbulletin->db->num_rows($vsaabgreeter_posted) > 0)
{
$vsaabgreeter_done = true;
}

$vsaabgreeter_exechour = date('H', $vsaabgreeter_propertime);-

With:

$vsaabgreeter_Time = new DateTime("now", new DateTimeZone('UTC'));
$vsaabgreeter_offset = $vbulletin->options[timeoffset];
$vsaabgreeter_Time->modify(($vsaabgreeter_offset >= 0 ? '+' . $vsaabgreeter_offset : $vsaabgreeter_offset) . 'hour');

$vsaabgreeter_execdate = $vsaabgreeter_Time->format('m-d');

$vsaabgreeter_done = false;
$vsaabgreeter_posted = $vbulletin->db->query_read(" SELECT daydone FROM " . TABLE_PREFIX . "vsa_birthdaythread WHERE daydone = '".$vbulletin->db->escape_string($vsaabgreeter_execdate)."' ");

if ($vbulletin->db->num_rows($vsaabgreeter_posted) > 0)
{
$vsaabgreeter_done = true;
}

$vsaabgreeter_exechour = $vsaabgreeter_Time->format('H');
-

Note that the exclude times are still there, which by default means that no threads will be created after 20:00. These times can be altered in the array shown below

$vsaabgreeter_exchrs = array(20,21,22,23);
-

or removed completely by replacing:

$vsaabgreeter_exechour = $vsaabgreeter_Time->format('H');
$vsaabgreeter_exchrs = array(20,21,22,23);

if (!$vsaabgreeter_done AND !in_array($vsaabgreeter_exechour, $vsaabgreeter_exchrs))
-

with

if (!$vsaabgreeter_done)
-

Attached is a file with all changes.

There was a typo in the code that affected negative time offsets. Now it should work for you. The code is available at the previous post (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=2117015&postcount=177).

Done

You could create a new user in your ACP with todays date as birth date. Then you would know at once if it works (when your main forum page loads).

I have tried this and nothing shows? is there a way to test this mod immediately, to check the functionality and wording of the message?

Use CSS. Change:

- opening tag to:
<span style="color:#0000FF;font-weight:bold;">
- closing tag to:
</span>
- 'User title' to:
<span style="color:#0000FF;font-weight:bold;">Modding Guru</span>

Change red part to color code you want to use for selected usergroup.

I have same error like that ( color=roup/member.gif]Member1[/color] )
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/
My code use in Username HTML Markup box
Open tag:
<img src="images/colorgroup/member.gif" border="0" />
Close tag: None
I don't use User Title

Check La Emperadora's usergroup tags.

If it's add-on then other usernames should be affected too.

Thanks for the update(s) I have re installed it and everything seems to be working on vBulletin v4.0.3.

However have the same issue with the persons birthday being posted a day earlier.

I have installed Kras's fix so hopefully this will resolve this issue. So thanks! But won't know until tomorrow.

Ok I am sorry to report that Kras's fix did not fix the problem with the posting of someone's birthday on the correct day.

As it posted the announcement 27mins before midnight on the day before the persons birthday.

For example.

Persons birthday was the 28th of November 2010.

Announcement was posted at 11:27 PM on the 27th of November and the message read as follows.

1 member is celebrating their birthday on 27-11-10:

-Erica (born in 1986, Age: 24)

Happy Birthday!

So is there something else that needs to be changed in the code for the post to be made on the correct day?

As everything else seems to be fixed :).

Thanks.

Kras' fix does work fine and corrects the time problem in the original mod that's been around a very long time ... ;)

Since we installed it on v4.04pl1, all of the time issues and incorrect dates for posting such as what you're reporting have been fixed...

I suspect the problem you've experienced has something to do with DST etc., or something else ..

Doug

Yes the problem lies with the DST setting if you have it enabled.

I have now disabled the DST setting and the mod works well.

Thanks!

Opp's seems I was a bit premature with saying that the posting date is fixed.

The actual time of the post is correct. As in the mod makes the post on the day of the persons birthday just after midnight. In this case the post was made on the 1-12-2010.

However in the message itself. It says that the person celebrated their birthday the day before which was the 30-11-2010 as shown in this image.

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2010/11/1.jpg

So is there a way in which I can correct what the post actually posts in the message? As it should be saying.

1 member is celebrating their birthday on 01-12-10:

-Erica (born in 1986, Age: 24)

Happy Birthday!

Rather than

1 member is celebrating their birthday on 30-11-10:

-Erica (born in 1986, Age: 24)

Happy Birthday!

As shown in the image above.

Thanks.

I too just installed this and it's posting toda for birthdays that are actually tomorrow. Not only that but it's posted two threads in one day.

Doesn't this post just a single thread for that days birthday at midnight?

Well, don't know what to say, except we had this out of sync date issue through multiple released versions and never could get it to work.. finally uninstalled it ... ;)

Saw kras's posts on the subject, downloaded and installed his variant ...

Problem solved for us and we've been running it for months on our v4.04pl1 vBulletin and never had an out of sync date (off by a day) problem since ... :up:

Your mileage obviously varies, but I'd still recommend others with the problem try that version, as it just might work for them as it did for us ... ;)

I'm having a problem with the birthday being announced around 11pm on the day BEFORE the birthday.
I'm on GMT+0 time zone, would this have something to do with the time calculations? when does VSA - Autobirthday run? i was hoping to perhaps delay it in the schedulaed tasks to later in the morning.

This is an awesome mod! The only thing that would make it better would be allowing selection of the Post Icon. On our forums we have special icons for birthday greetings (a cake) and I can't see an option to select that with this mod. Great work though! Will try it out!

Do you use a specifc account to post birthday greetings and if so, is this the only thing that account is used for? If so you could add a conditional to the template so that if a specific user was the poster, then your cake post icon would be used.

Of course it would be nice to have the option added to this mod, but the above is a manual way to get it done in the meantime.
