Hi,

I was just wondering how do you guys run a test forum (to test new mods, upgrades,etc.). I once had a test forum on some random domain i had to test out things before i make them live, but then that site started to get indexed and started to get visitors which caused some problems. Also I realized that the VB lisense is meant to install only on one domain..

So, again, how do you guys test things before transfering the changes to live forum?

Thanks!

Make a test forum, same as you did, but password protect it via cPanel. Best way to do it.

As long as it's:

http://www.YourLicensedDomainName.com/vbtest

YourLicensedDomainName is the name that's registered with your vBulletin license. This makes it legal.

was going to try to do it this way instead of on a different domain all together, but it seems it cause problems for some: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?340304-2-Forums-Same-Server-Super-Imposed-Over-Itself-Not-Happy&highlight=test

If you read it, it says that it was simply a config.php problem. You need to have a separate database.

It reads later that he checked the config.php file and all was set correctly, it was just some other strange issue and i was wondering if anyone else had a problem like that.

Oh, one other question about running a test forum on domain/test. Id the avatars are stored in a file system like files/domain/ would that effect the test forum? Should I remake a new file system for test forum?

Also, can you make a test forum on test.domainname.com?

You should set another path to store your images on the file system, or you are sharing avatars (and other filesystem stored attachments) with your production forum.

And yes you can also make it a subdomain, as long as your name it 'testvb' and it is not public accessible.

or ewen simpler,, just download one of those free server packages
and run it on your computer..

im using XAMPP server myself, complete apache server, mysql, php + anything you want
preset up, and control panel.

Makeing it really fast to install/remove and run multiple vbulletin on.
both for testing, and dev. new mod's.
