Although it seems like your "your trying to call me out on it", I got it from a free background site. Anyways, I hope you don't expect me to draw that well.

It is excellent for the most part, but you might want to look at group.php?do and verify that looks right because it looks very strange for me on both this and your Pixel theme. (Both the background colour and text within blocks are white in this.)
I also noticed some of the StyleVars lead to an odd directory instead of /twilight/. /livelife/ or something...

Thanks for pointing both of these items out. I'll take a look at it. Expect a release tonight
Edit: These variables are not in stylevars yet, I believe. Expect 4.02+ to hopefully include them.

keep ripping people's works and calling it your own. This looks just as bad as the other one you created, just with a different background.

Well no, but one would expect you to (finally) respect other's copyright.

Honestly, Kall, and SeaJay. Take a chillpill. I've never seen anyone say This looks just as bad as the other one you created, just with a different background. That's really immature. And I'm pretty sure your older than me too. If you don't like the free theme, don't download it.
I actually got this image from another site than digitalblasphemy. You can imagine that with the net being so big, that duplicate images get used everywhere around the free background sites. Thankfully, digitalblasphemy has a terms where you can commercially use this. I have added their link accordingly to the background [Fix 1.0.1] to avoid any conflicts as I do now believe digitalblasphemy is the creator of the background.
This theme is different from the other one, SeaJay, it uses different shading, color links, and hover-overs and background menu drops. Furthermore it uses different radius's and a different background. I don't think you noticed, but the HIO Theme uses free backgrounds as well.
Next time you report my thread, you can at least warn me what the problem is so I can fix it. Give me a chance to respond. If I'm not listening to you, then report it...that would be the logical thing to do. So give me a warning, I'm very active on vBulletin and I will make changes accordingly.
V.1.0.1 now uploaded.

You failed to listen to the owner of VBSEO.com, who's theme you directly copied and just changed the logo.
You even changed the name to hide the fact that you ripped his skin. it used to be called vbseo clone.

I thought you were complaining about this theme?
I think the complaint is that your entire business model and skin creation strategy is based on stealing other people's hard work, then profiting from it.
Did you put credit/linkback to vbseo.com in the 'SEO green' skin? Is there a linkback to digitalblashphemy.com in this one? No, but I bet there's a link or 2 back to your sites.

This is a nice Style! :)
Just a few issues that I had which I easily fixed. I use the IBPro Arcade. All hyperlinks are white. The background is white in the Arcade. In other words, no hyperlinks can be seen. Besides, I like the hyperlinks to be a different color than the rest of the text.
I changed the Hyperlinks color to Orange. Orange Hyperlinks looks pretty sharp with this style!
On all the widgets, the header and body text is a dark color. It should be white like the other text.
Here is what I changed:
Styles & Templates ==> Style Manager
Under Edit Fonts / Colors Etc.
Select StyleVars
Then under the vbcms section, edit: vbcms_widget_color
Change Color to: #ffffff
Under the Links section, edit: link_color
Change color to: rgb(255, 102, 0)
Now, my only issue is the Sections widget. When my cursor is over it, the whole sections background lights up in a bright pink. I find that very annoying. I haven`t tried to find where to change it. I`m going to do that now.
I don`t mind taking a Style and editing it a little to my own tastes. It is impossible for you to create a Style that pleases everybody. :)

Honestly, MikeLac, probably the best post I've seen from someone on my threads. You first wanted something different, but then you told people how to make it that different. Thanks x10
The sections widget operates like that for me too. I'm wondering if it's a 4.0.1 glitch. I think it is.
We'll have to wait till 4.0.2 to see if they fixed it. It doesn't occur with the categories.
Edit: Can I see a link to your site? I'd like to see your changes.

Sure thing!
My site is at: WainwrightForum.com (http://www.wainwrightforum.com)
I have made it my Default theme.
For the Logo, I used the same colors as your Twilight Logo. I created it using cooltext.com (http://www.cooltext.com) and Photoshop.
For the Sections, I created 30 Sections with approx. 650 Subsections. Just like an Article directory! Eventually, I will have a separate layout for every single Main Section and Sub Section! I have a different layout for the first 20 Main Sections so far. I started creating my Forum on Dec. 21st.
By the way, I was on your Forum yesterday and I read your thread about installing the Stop Forum Spam Mod. That Mod is incredible! I have had it installed since Jan. 3rd and only one Spammer has gotten through. Only because he was not on any Spam lists. Lately, it has been rejecting approx. 10 Spammers a day. Spammers were registering at my Forum since the day I purchased and installed the Forum Software back on Dec. 21st. Which was odd, because nobody knew about my Forum yet. There is one source which creates a lot of Spam for every single Vbulletin Forum owner. Everybody that purchases Vbulletin gets a link to their Forum added to the list of all Vbulletin Owners. How convenient! A One Stop Shopping center for Spammers! How else would Spammers find out about my site from day one. I am going to see if I can get my link removed. You will find that this Mod will solve your Spammer problems. I only filter Email and IP addresses. I did not bother filtering User IDs.
Now, back on topic. :)
That is certainly strange how the Sections widget changes to a bright pink when the cursor is over it. I thought that you designed it that way since it doesn`t do it with my other Styles. It will be interesting to see what bugs version 4.02 will fix. :)
One more thing that I changed. It has nothing to do with your Style. I make this change with every Style that I install.
The RSS Widgets cut out the descriptions. It shows the titles only. If you want the descriptions as well, then this is how to do it:
Edit Template
Vbulletin CMS Templates ==> vbcms_widget_rss_page
Replace the following:
<!-- /////// Commenting out Summary and Author
{vb:raw detail.summary} <br />
{vb:raw detail.author} <br />
-->
With:
<!-- /////// Commenting out Summary and Author -->
{vb:raw detail.summary} <br />
{vb:raw detail.author} <br />
I am sure that it is very frustrating when you spend several hours creating Free Styles and people have nothing better to do than criticize your work. That would drive me nuts! I always try to make suggestions for improvements without making it sound like I am being critical. Everybody likes things differently. For example, I liked the Hyperlinks changed to Orange. Many others probably liked them just the way they were.
Before Dec. 21st, I knew nothing about Vbulletin, other than being a registered user of a few Forums. But I love to tinker with things! That is how I learn!
daveaite

Very nice what you did to the place. I see what you mean by the section highlighting. I'll need to release a new version though since I did not mean to put pink as a background color.
You can change the background by going to stylevars > vbcms_navwidget_menuitem_background
and
vbcms_navwidget_menuitem_hover_background Apply this color: #0BB59A, looks nice, or any color.
Thats a large section by the way. My test forum has the defective highlight as well, so thats why I think it operates like that (as a unit).
Thanks for the RSS fix. And yeah it's a bit frustrating, it actually happens to be just one member of vbulletin that just pops in every once in awhile, I asked admins to delete his posts, I'm sure there too busy right now applying 4.0.2 and getting everything ready for release.
Another great post by you, I had to spend the time to write a lengthy one back. And I'm a tinkerer as well. I only started web site development and design 2 years ago, and I've come a decent way, more than I expected. I'm just about to graduate as a Civil Engineer at FSU, but the funny thing is, I find web development alot more fun and exciting. Every door you open up, seems to have 1 million more things to learn. The competition is fun too. Okay that was my sidetrackness on my post as well. Haha.
Anyways, I couldn't help but notice, a link to cbmall.com. Do you own that site? Looks like a killer site. Congrats xD
MikeLac

I purchased CB Mall awhile back and never did much with it. I thought that the Forum would be a perfect place to have a link to it! The CB Mall cost $97.
It is all about Affiliate marketing. Do you have a Clickbank Affiliate Account? With CB Mall, your Clickbank Affiliate ID is inserted into every single product. The CB Mall has pretty much every product that is in the Clickbank Marketplace. It is better organized and has better product descriptions than Clickbank. Jeff Mulligan owns and operates CB Mall. He is one of the VERY FEW Internet marketers that I pay attention to. He does not abuse his mailing lists by trying to promote every product under the sun. When I do receive an Email from Jeff promoting another product, the product is usually pretty good. I can tell that he has tried the product and really believes in the product. Most Internet Marketers couldn`t care less if you buy a crappy product as long as they get a commission from it.
I used to do a lot of advertising on Google Adwords promoting Clickbank products. Did quite well with it. Until Google became a public company and decided to gouge the advertisers for more money in order to please their share holders. Not to mention the many hoops I have to jump through just to get my Ads to show. I stopped giving Google money about 1 and a half years ago. Now I want to concentrate on Google Adsense and take money from Googles pockets.
My Clickbank ID is Reviewsggl. If you go to the order page of ANY product in the CBMall on my site, you will see at the bottom of the page: Affiliate = "Reviewsggl"
I have been designing web sites myself for about 7 years now. I did the same as you. Learned myself from scratch. Lots of tinkering. If I saw something that I liked on another site, I would copy the site and play around with it on my Computer to see exactly how it was done. I use Dreamweaver and Microsoft Expression Web.
Thanks for the Background color change. I will make the change in about 18 hours from now. I am going to bed now. It is 12:25 AM where I live and I have to be at work for 6:30.

I installed your Live Life Style about an hour ago. Marked as Installed, 5 stars. Same with this Style!
Now I see where the Pink highlighting with the Sections widget came from! :D
I left the Pink highlighting alone with the Live Life theme because it looks good with that Theme. I changed the Highlighting color with the Twilight theme to the one you suggested in your previous post.
I also changed the Hyperlinks color as well as the Hover Hyperlinks color in the Live Life Style. Have a look at my site and let me know what you think! :)
Picking a good color for the Hyperlinks is a bit more challenging for me. Mainly because of the Arcade. The Arcade background is White. So, I have to try and pick a color that looks good on white as well as a Red background for the Live Life Style. Orange looks good on a white background as well as the dark background in the Twilight Style.

Yeah, Very nice. Taking a look at the site atm. If I can give you one tip, you can blend your google ads by changing the background color as well, that way they don't stick out as much. Either to a black background or a dark blue. Advantages are that users will click on it more if its blended with the site.
Also when I was registering for your forum, I noticed this error:
The file /home/wainwrig/public_html/clientscript/vbulletin_css/style00000l/vbulletin.css is missing. This would indicate your forum is not set to save CSS on the filesystem. If you are certain it is, try running Compress CSS again.
To prevent issues, your forum is currently running without optimised CSS as a fallback.
Check the installation package and just find vbulletin.css. I think writing over that file or adding vbulletin.css back to its location should fix that problem. Not really too sure. Are you using custom mods?
MikeLac
02-13-2010, 05:54 AM
Yes, I have noticed that error as well. It doesn`t cause any issues, other than the error briefly showing up. It is to do with the VB4: Supercharged Mod. When I disable the Mod or even just disabling the CSS Compression, the error goes away. But, for some reason, all of the borders disappears in the Arcade and makes it look like a mess. There were a few other issues as well, which I can`t seem to recall. So, I just left it enabled with the CSS Compression. I`ll have to look into it a bit more to see if I can figure it out.
If you look at this page and the next 2 after, then you will see many people with the exact same problem:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=229608&page=20
It is a known bug that is supposed to be fixed with the next release. It only appears when logging into an Account and then it redirects.
I agree with your suggestions for Google Adsense. I was planning on doing that, but haven't got around to it. Before I made Twilight the default style, I was using Blue Haze as my default style. It had a white background.
Is it possible to have a different color Google Adsense ad for each Style? So, if someone chooses Live Life as their default Style, it will display Google Ads that are color coordinated to that theme and if Twilight is used, then the Google Ads will match that theme?
Update: I just tried disabling the CSS Compression in that VB4: Supercharged Mod once again. The error goes away. But the Arcade looks horrendous! All backgrounds and borders disappear. It looks like a mess. The error is way less annoying. It would be nice if the Mod designer would release an Update to fix the problem. Or it would be nice to figure out what disabling the Mod or the CSS compression within the mod has to do with messing up the Arcade.
I will register on your Forum a little later today. :)
daveaite
02-13-2010, 06:57 AM
Yeah, you can have different google ad codes for each style I believe. I think instead of using the ad manager you can edit the ad template per theme and just slot in the google ad accordingly to each thread.
Not using the supercharged mod, as I don't really believe in mods that can speed up forums since I trust VB4. (Probably wrong but who knows)
Anyways, I wouldn't use that mod until the author fixes the problem. Your forum doesn't need it anyways since it's brand new and not calling as many database queries as a larger forum would. Looks like a powerful mod though with all the fix logs. Grats to the author.
Lately, I was planning on releasing a theme, but I've been custom working my CMS all day to get it too look different than the average cms: http://buypoe.com (its a gamer site)
One problem I'm having with ads is every time I add an ad to the top right, below my toplinks, it pushes my header down and opens a huge gap of space.
MikeLac
02-13-2010, 02:08 PM
I figured it out. :)
After installing that Mod, I had to change the Store CSS Stylesheets as Files? to Yes.
I disabled the CSS compression within the Mod once again. The error should now be gone.
But I had to set it back to No. Styles & Language Settings ==>Store CSS Stylesheets as Files? = No.
You are right. Since my Forum is new, I probably do not need it.
I can not seem to figure out which template to edit in order to change the Google Ad color scheme. But I have only been looking for 10 minutes.
There are some more of your Styles that I like which I will install later on.

Try restarting firefox. Updating your firefox. Perhaps you have a mod firefox installation affecting it.

I am using Firefox 3.6, I have a scrolling problem ...
I'm testing the demo by a member of my forum, even with firefox 3.5.8 they have also this problem.
In Internet Explorer 8 there is no problem.

The main thing is that it works, I await the return of members of my forum to develop this theme.

Great work Dave!
I installed the Update and it works great with IE 8 and Firefox 3.6.
One small issue that I just noticed with IE. The borders are missing from my widgets. They appear with Firefox. Never noticed that before because I mostly use Firefox. I have installed 5 of your Styles now and the widget borders shows up with the other 4 in IE. But there are many IE issues that are supposed to be fixed with 4.0.2. I'm sure that it has to do with 4.0.1 rather than your Style. Not a big deal at all.
Here is a suggestion. Since you made the Image fixed, you changed the Download file name to reflect that. Many people that see the name will think that the Style is fixed and not the Fluid version. People will not realize that the name is referring to a Fixed Image. Even though your Demo site shows the Fluid version. You know how people are. You can clearly show it in your Demo as well as in the description and you will still be asked questions that are already answered in the description :). You should leave the name at Twilight.zip. Most new downloads will be people trying it for the first time and won't have a clue that the image was not fixed in the previous versions.
Now I am Off to update a couple of your other Styles.
I did not register at your Forum yesterday like I said I would. I'll do that today. I promise! Even if I tell my Wife that we can not go out for Valentines Day Supper later because I have to register at Daves Forum. She'll go for that. :D

Thanks, I've taken your advice on the titles of the fixed image as you can see. There seems to
be some slight differences between display on I.E and Firefox (not just with this theme) but
with all themes. Vbulletin developers are having trouble making their software compatible
with all browsers, (seems like a daunting task). Once again, thanks for the compliments.
Sure beats making a premium theme for the money, than just a few words of kindness to
keep making free themes. :) (no sarcasum intended)

Yes, a few kind words are much better than the criticism that some people here like to dish out. Eventually, I do plan on donating to you and some other Developers whose Styles and Mods I use. A little short on cash at the moment. Actually, I have been short on cash ever since I bought my House 2 and a half years ago. Wanted a nice house on an Acreage. The Mortgage payments eats a large chunk of my Salary from my Full Time job. The sad part is, I used to do Internet Marketing Full Time. Mainly Affiliate marketing promoting Clickbank products. But all of my Eggs were in the Google Adwords basket. It all went away in a hurry when my advertising costs quadrupled! Now I am trying to generate income with Google Adsense and getting Traffic the old fashioned way. Free from getting ranked in the Search Engines.
I am quite surprised that some people whine about having a link to your site with the Styles. People seem to expect that developers like yourself will develop Free Styles and Mods for Free with no strings attached. There are many Internet Marketers that have made a fortune by giving away Free stuff! But they would not have made anything at all if the stuff they gave away was completely Free with no strings attached.
Now, I know how important one way links are for SEO purposes. I am willing to bet that people that use your Style for Free with a link back to your site are just as important as the ones that donate $10 to get the rights to have that link removed. :)

A few font color issues that I noticed.
I registered at your Forum-Skins website using this Twilight Style. The descriptions next to the field boxes do not show up that great. The font color should be white or a different color.
In the profile section, the left sidebar text can hardly be seen. The font color should be changed to something else.
I have been looking and can not see where to change the font colors for those. What StyleVars needs to be edited?
Thanks! :)

Thanks MikeLac for the thought and time put into your posts. I'll take a look into the twilight version and see what your doing.
I'm usually pretty busy Tuesday thorugh Thursdays and very free Friday-Mondays, for the most part.
Since its a theme issue, I'll fix it without you guys changing the stylevars. If you want to get it done pretty quick, you can take a l
look at http://stylevars.com and that should help you find what your looking for fairly fast. I haven't finished completing it
yet though, it takes alot of time.

I think something like this would slow your website down tremendously. But it's definately possible. Perhaps your looking for a different background per forum section.
audis3
02-17-2010, 08:08 PM
I don't think that will slow down the forum because when all images loaded the first time then they will be cached by the browser, so it's not so bad.
What do you think?
Can you please also release a version with background rotator?
And one more question.
Is there any way that i can change the opacity of the thansparency?
MikeLac
02-17-2010, 11:05 PM
A background rotater sounds good in theory, but I wouldn't want it. All of the colors match the background. I have customized all of my Google Adsense ads to match the background. I've customized some other things such as the Hyperlink color so that it goes good with the background. Everything looks great with the current background. Change the background to something else, and everything could look like crap..
The only way that this will work is if you select backgrounds with the same color scheme and make sure that the background looks good with the font colors, etc.
I have tried some different backgrounds out of curiosity to see what it would look like. The backgrounds ended up looking great but the site did not because the font colors, widgets, etc. did not match the background. A bunch of edits would be needed in order to make it look good.
And Dave is right. It will slow the site down tremendously. Sure, it does cache cache the page the first time that it is loaded. But what good will that do when the background changes again? It will have to cache another page. Then another. Then another. Etc. It would all depend on how many backgrounds that it will rotate.

I have a suggestion.. I have created child styles with different backgrounds, i would like to have a quick chooser for different backgrounds instead of having to add extra childs. Something user customizable. Makes it a lot easier for adding modifications with template edits. A quick chooser next to the style and language choosers.
Otherwise, this is my favorite style!:D

For example, when you load the first page then it is cached.
When you load another page and then go back to the home page then it is still cached(if the web site uses cache).
I realize that.
But what I am getting at is: If it has to go through 20 different backgrounds before they are all cached, then the user will realize that this Style is way to slow and switch to something else before all the backgrounds have a chance to be cached. Because it would have to go through 20 different backgrounds before a background is actually used twice. If it rotates between 3 backgrounds, then it won't take long for them to be cached. It all depends on how many backgrounds that it rotates.

So,can you please release a second (different) version with the background rotator?
Is it possible?

Yeah background rotators is definitely possible. It would require some custom coding that I'm unfamiliar with, I'll need to do some research this weekend on it.

And truble, if you give me ftp access I should be able to see whats wrong. Your placing the image folder for this theme in the wrong location, thats all.

3-4 backgrounds wouldn't be too bad. But it would still be slower loading the first 3 or 4 times until all of the backgrounds are cached. I can see that potentially costing new registrations. You know what is going on and why it is going to be slower until the backgrounds are cached. However, your visitors will not know that. They will just think that your site is slow and leave without registering before all 4 backgrounds are cached. IMHO. :)
daveaite
02-19-2010, 05:22 AM
Yeah, I think multiple backgrounds is probably a bad idea, I'd like to experiment with the idea if I get the time. It just seems like a loading nightmare, potentially bad for SEO, as loading times can drive new registrants away...specially as newer forums get accustomed to larger population demands on the server.

You failed to listen to the owner of VBSEO.com, who's theme you directly copied and just changed the logo.
You even changed the name to hide the fact that you ripped his skin. it used to be called vbseo clone.
It's not the same as vBseo, i have the original style and even when i looked at the 2 there are varying differences between them and unless he had access to the admincp to clone your style then in actual fact he did make this style himself.
No matter how much it looks the same he did it himself, thats like me copying vb.org yet if i coloured it etc myself then its my own work after all there are many sites like mine on the web too.

Yes, I've attached a grid, you can upload it by going to Vbulletin CMS in the admincp panel. From there, download/uploadgrids > and install my grid. Don't forget to apply grid as well.
For some reason it happens to people. Thats a quick fix.

Yes, since the transparency was made in .png simply use an image editing program to adjust the transparencies I have made that are in the twilight folder.
Create the transparency to your liking, copy and replace it with the same name into the twilight folder and the new transparencies should apply.

I do have beef with this theme also, the image included from DB isn't free. (except for the small mobile versions) http://digitalblasphemy.com/preview.shtml?i=skysong2k72
Why do you daveaite, simply steal other peoples work and post it as your own, or reuse it without permission?
I've sent this link to the owner of DB (where I've been a member for about 4 years now) so I'm sure he'll be in contact with you and this site very soon for allowing you to continue distributing his work.
You are not only putting your site at risk, but also everyone who downloads and uses this theme has now also committed theft and copyright violations.

Installed. Looks absolutely fantastic.
A couple of niggling bugs:
1.) On the who's online page, the "no permission," "forum closed," and "error message" icons are dead links.
2.) on the front page, the widgets have a white background. I see this mentioned above, and apparently at one point or another it was fixed.
3.) The "promote to article," "reply with quote," post report and multi-quote buttons also have a white background in the forum.
I gather that these are not too terribly difficult to fix, and I'll be happy to fix them myself rather than tie up the developer's time, but I am completely and totally inexperienced with this stuff. If someone would be kind enough to talk me through it, or point me to some place where I can learn more about it, I would be most appreciative. :)
