Help!! Little square symbols replacing text!!

Suddenly posts in different threads on my forum have been replaced with this symbol below, and we have NO idea what it is, or how to stop it or what! HELP!!!

Did you how do anything recently on the server? (Ask him!) Have you done anything new on your site? Are you sure it isn't just your browser or computer? Are other users complaining about this or just you?

Everyone is complaining about this. These squares have taken up entire threads now. It's not just one browser, it's everyone seeing them.

Nothing recently was done to the server or the site.

What's "ask him"?

Did you ask your host? It really sounds like something changed on your server so you need to ask your host if they changed anything.

OK, I will ask there next. Thanks, I'll probably be back because our host is GoDaddy, and they usually are terrible with figuring out issues. (in my experience, that is.)

OK, they said it's a software issue, i.e. vBulletin. Anyone?

It's happening worse and worse every day. More and more threads are losing text, and paragraphs are being replaced with that one little square.
