I will no longer support vBulletin because of IB and the agile development, and they are not fixing bugs like they should. Instead they add bloat.

just wondering, is this hack compatible with the FACEBOOK bridge by MR.Paint? it seems not ... :S
another question: when i tried to open a thread i saw that the time zone was settled onto the GMT time, maybe it's possible to set automatically at the time zone that we have settled into our UCP?
anyway good job ;)

Why do you think it does not work with the Facebook bridge?
I use both on my site and it works fine.
I will look into changing that. How ever I do believe that is the default calendar settings.
This modification did not change any settings. It only uses existing ones.

Is this hack compatible with EverCraft's Event Attendance hack? I read numerous posts in the past that these two add-ons did not play well together...

As I said I will look into it.
Edit:
After looking into it more the way it is is the best way to do it. I am not editing the calendars default code.
This is how the vBulletin calendar works.
If I set the event that is in Ohio to Ohio's timezone and then you travel from Maryland to Ohio you will then be on Ohio's timezone so there would be no change in the time listed. If you are in the hotel in Ohio and sign on to the site and your setting is for EST cause you live in Maryland then the time for the event will be wrong and you will be a hour late.
Further more as the user sets the time for events there is no way to change their setting for each end user. That is just how the calendar works.

You are correct. That is a bug in Vbulletin 4.0.1 as the default calendar with out this modification installed does the same thing.
The first post in a calendar thread you see is the default calendar template. I just called the default calendar template to the thread. I did not edit it at all what so ever.
The times and dates for the title are only added in forumdisplay and showthread.
That is how it was intended to work.
Other wise every time the event time was updated it would have to update the title of the thread. Thus causing a big mess when you update only the end time or start time.

I do not know I did not test that.
Will they be integrated?
I did read some where in one of his post that he is willing to work with who ever to get these modifications working together. So in due time we will get together and make these two modifications work flawlessly together.

When you guys say that it's "NOT" compatible, do you mean that it's not linked or that something actually breaks? Obviously there is no integration between the two at the moment but if I install both will something break or will I just not see the RSVP in my Event thread?

From what I could tell this is what will happen.
All your calendars are forwarded to a thread via this mod. The Event attendance will not show what so ever. The good thing is there is no errors that I have found yet.
How ever this modification totally disables the event attendance mod.

Oh, right - because the Event Attendance only shows up on the calendar and not on showthread. Makes sense.
Installed. I can have members RSVP by posting in the thread, I can't get my members to use the calendar to post events. :D

I installed Farcaster's integration between Event Forums and Event Attendance... the 3.6 version.
First thing I noticed was that Farcaster's plugin "redirect links to individual events to their threads instead (INTEGRATED w/ RSVP VERSION)" for calendar_getday_start - the very last line eval(exec_header_redirect('showthread.php?t=' etc should be changed from true to false like you (BBR) did in your plugin.
Next up is to make the RSVP show up on the showthread... There's only 3 plugins for the integration so this (in theory) shouldn't be too hard...

Wow OK while the first plugin was fairly easy to get it to convert the link, the showthread_complete plugin is completely foreign to me. Obviously all the fetch_templates need to be changed accordingly...

Installed with no problem. If you have the previous version installed, remove it first! I had it disabled and was getting sql errors but now I'm good in the hood.
Thanks BBR!
Also: Could you describe which part you didn't add back from the previous version? "Event Summary" - what's that? My forum people liked that I had the week work of events at the top of that forum (like upcoming events for the next 5 or 7 days).

Ok, I have this and Farcaster's mod installed (working good BTW).

Thread Prefixes.
I run a gaming website and all game events are posted to a single calendar. I'd like to be able to specific which game the event is for by using thread prefixes so they are easier for people to sort/find.

Could you explain this more please...
When clicking "New Thread" in an Event Forum, it displays the "Add Event" form. This option defines which event type it should use.
Options are:
1 = "Single, All Day Event"
2 = "Ranged Event"
3 = "Recurring Event"
and..
Use template variable for Event Details
Thanks.
TimberFloorAu
02-03-2010, 01:16 AM
1 = "Single, All Day Event"
2 = "Ranged Event"
3 = "Recurring Event"
1. such as a BBQ , or 1 day concert on a specific date
2. such as a camping trip from this date to that date
3. an event that happens in series, such as Billy Smarts Circus every saturday

Confirmed as I'm having the same issue.
Ok, I thought this was working ok, but it isn't.
The event details aren't appearing. I checked in mod and it says:
When this is set to Yes you will need to use the variable $lv_vb_eventforums_eventdetails to display the Event Details block in the SHOWTHREAD template.
When this is set to No the Event Details block is inserted at the end of $navbits variable.
If you are running the default style, you can most likely leave this off. If you have heavily customised the SHOWTHREAD template, and/or the Event Details arn't showing properly, you will need to use this.However, my SHOWTHREAD isn't modified at all in either my custom style or my default style. I checked the default style anyway and it's not being displayed there either.
Also, Where in SHOWTHREAD would I put $lv_vb_eventforums_eventdetails in order to try and fix this?

It also looks like the special variable $lv_vb_eventforums_eventdetails (or {vb:raw lv_vb_eventforums_eventdetails as it is in 4.0) doesn't work right. Check of the code shows it's not being rendered into the SHOWTHREAD template.
FIX:
Find:
$lv_vb_eventforums_eventdetails = $lv_vb_eventforums_eventblock;
Add:
$templatevalues['lv_vb_eventforums_eventdetails'] = $templater->render();
vB_Template::preRegister('SHOWTHREAD', $templatevalues);

Those are not your RSVP buttons that are whited out. Those are your event controls move event delete event and event reminder.
That is something in your style vars you never set on that skin.
For you saying that not much of a event showed up what do you want for what you typed.

I will not be adding that function. As I have no use for it. Event forums should be event forums. That is just one more thing to support and explain how it works.
I suppose we disagree then... The benefit I see is getting events into forums which lets people see them rather than creating a seperate list of events in a new forum. But of course it's your mod and direction.
Do you object if I post the code hacks to make this work to anyone wanting to do the same?

It is getting hard to keep up with all the post here already. Let alone trying to support third party code in this thread.
The whole point of having an event forum, Was to have a forum/forums for your events to be posted in. Mixing event threads in with the other threads may cause a lot of issues since in an event forum this rewrites the title and also the first post is hidden and replaced with the calendar bits. Which is the whole reason I will not include it. I see it causing many issues.

I'm looking for the original functionality this modification provided which let sites bring events in with forum posts and did so in a very simple to use way.
Not an event? Nothing is added. Event? Add the calendar stuff. Your updated code still makes that all possible but I will extend it to display the right links to let people create threads vs events.
I fully respect your desire to keep this streamlined and won't post any code to your thread knowing the clutter having other features could cause.

However, there's no way to RSVP to an event as in the screenshot of Farcaster's mod. So when I say nothing showed up, I mean the event is there, but none of the RSVP stuff. Maybe it's a problem with his mod I'm having? I have no idea.
Post a new event after you install his modification. The option to add the event attendance is there. His mod will not work with old events only new ones.

Whilst I can see what you and Ted are both saying.
I must side with Ted on this issue, I will explain why.
Our membership are divided into joiners and idealists.
We have members happy to post events that the "membership" can join in on, and others that are happy to join in on those and discuss them in that thread.
Hence these 2 mods work seemlessly.
But !
Big BUT. We are integrating this into heavily trafficked forums, where our "idealists" post threads suggesting events !
This now means they cannot do that, and so for that reason, we have to now duplicate our event forums.
Hope that makes sense. FWIW it does the task tremedously, and I can fully understand the issue of not supporting multiple hacks and re-jigs.
But for "moi" I would like the opportunity, for our users to "suggest" events in the normal manner, of "new thread" within same forum architecture and location.

I truly do understand what your saying I just do not plan to add that any time soon. As my site does not work like that. I have forums just for events.
I really need to get some of my other mods updated that I have released. I am a father of two boys. I have a job and I need to work on my own site too. So time is very slim. I spend every extra minute I have trying to keep these mods updated. Maybe some time in the near future I will add that option. My main focus when I rewrite/write these mods is what I need for my site. I build on for others as time permits. I just try to give back to the community when I can.

Turn off this modification once go to your default calendar. You will see every thing you see now, with out the thread below it. That is the default calendar bit template.
Avatar is missing as I posted several times now. This is a vBulletin 4.0.1 bug. The offline thing is a vbulletin bug. Heck look at the post permissions below where you add the event. It says you do not have permission to do anything. LMAO That is all vBulletin bugs has nothing to do with the code from this modification. So until vBulletin fixes their bugs that is how it will be. Hopefully its in the 4.0.2 code base. I wouldn't get my hopes up if I was you. The avatars in the RSVP need to be focused at farcaster as his mod handles that. I do like the idea of a list of events that user has posted I will look and see what hooks are in the calendar bits templates.
I will always use vBulletins calendar template as the first post in a thread. First I can always blame vBulletin for any issue in that template. Second it keeps it easy to help fix problems. Saves me from writing a whole new template. I just keep praying the vBulletin staff would fix their calendar. I could report the bug and you guys could come behind me and ask them to fix it. Every time I post a bug they don't reply, They just marked as confirmed half the time and never reply. Oh yeah 80% of the time the bug never gets fixed. :erm:

The great thing about vBulletin is that you have the ability to go in and modify the templates. You don't need the official modifications to support the layout you are looking for. Simply customize your templates.

Cheers Guys.
TBH I am sick of posting bugs on VB. They never get looked into and/or replied. The search mechanism on VB does my head in... I think the single most annoying feature ( missed off ) is the auto complete of usersnames when sending PM's lol.
No doubt thats a bug, my fault or divine intervention.
The reason I reply in posts about look and feel, is it gives you guys some ideas of what " idgits" like me would have on our wish list. Regarding template modification, I can hash stuff together and try and come up with something.

It could be another mod interfering with it.

When I go to the Event Forum it shows the correct permissions...when I click on New Thread to go to the Add New Event...the permissions say I can't post, reply, etc. Now I am the admin and have all rights.
I checked the setting on both the section and the calendar...and am full access.

Go in to the old version before you remove it. In the products manager. In the drop down select edit. Go in and remove the install code and the uninstall code before you remove it.
As for the permissions problem check all your settings for the calendar and the user groups.

The hell no I never said it is not unappreciated. The thing is... we have a bunch of events which are re-occuring that we posted on our calendar months before installing this.
All I'm asking is how to make those events start appearing on forums WITHOUT re-adding them, and I'm sure there is a way to do this.
And really to tell you the truth, what you posted is really offensive.

I will look when I have time, My currect mindset is to help my family dig out. We have to clean off flat roofs and what not. Buildings are collapsing from the weight of the snow. Roads are still not plowed.
These mods are the least of my worries.I don't miss Maryland winters at all! :down:

Some people are ungrateful; however, I have benefited greatly from over 100 different mods since I've been using VB.org back at the beginning of vB3 and I have used some of your mods (Useful links, vB Event Forums, Google Analytics, and your article on vB4 conditionals) and appreciate the time spent by all of the great developers (you, Lynne, Paul M, Valter (cyb), vBDev, along with other countless developers)
I would be send money but Paypal is not happy with me (I have been working with them on restoring full access to my Paypal for months now, but their customer service and those teams are very slow)

There is no way to tie old events into it. I told you this several times. It will only work with new events. There is two pages of you asking this same question. If you are so sure there is a way to do it then be my guest and do it for your site. I have no intentions of adding that kind of support. This only ties them together when you press submit.

Hello!
Ok, I am not sure if this mod is to blame, but I am now receiving a new "vBulletin Database Error!".
When a new calendar event is created, the mod creates a new thread in a forum, as the mod is designed to do. However, the forum is moderated and new threads require approval.
When a new event is created, I receive two emails. The first is the error email (see below). And the second is the new thread notification, which is normal. Here is the error:

Bug: Admins and supermods have FULL rights to move/edit events, however, thread creaters (who had FULL access to edit their own threads because the events are always changing [raves, go figure]) as well as full abilities to edit their calendar events CANNOT edit the event. this is stressing out a lot of the promoters and I sadly just saw this. Thread creators cannot edit their own threads/event, but admins/supermods can (not sure on the "just mods", i hate them anyway)
Please help :(
Clarification: They can EDIT if they use the right URL (which they don't know) but there is no button for them to click on to edit.
Edit 3: Can go to previous calendar events that WERE created by them that don't have threads anymore (due to uninstall of previous mod and installation of new) and they can edit those.

Installed this great mod!!!
One question though, is there any way to select that only certain users are invited/able to see this event?
Basically any time someone posts an event, it is on every member's calendar. Is there anyway to set it so that maybe the event organizer can invite say only friends or certain people? Or is it pretty much if you post an event, everyone will be invited?
Great mod, and thanks again in advance.

No, vBulletin's Calendar is made to be a site-wide calendar. To do as you want, you would need to manually create a calendar for each member, and apply permissions to each Calendar. Very laborious!

I just noticed we're getting the timeout errors also, but only on our second calendar(s).
Create a new calendar, say "testcalendar", and try to post an event to it. Hangs. Disable this mod, works. Maybe it's got something to do with "testcalendar" not being defined in the Calendar/Forum Map?

This is exactly what's happening to my site. Its been like this ever since I installed the mod a month ago. I looked at my database to see if there were any weird characters where calendarid:forumid are located and it all looks good. I am so looking forward to getting this to work.

Is there a way to run this mod in forums yet also have them accept normal posts so they don't all show up as events?
I would love this. I post events from my calendar as an admin, but on the forum they go into, I don't want users posting calendar events. Just replying to my calendar thread or creating their own.
What's working for me as a 'quick fix', is that I post a couple weeks worth of calendar events, then disable the mod, which leaves me the calendar event linked to the thread on the forum, but resets forum back to normal.
ok, anyway to make the date show up on the "new post" search? it only shows up in the forum.

:erm:
I have found in 4.0.2 regarding the avatar bug that if you remove '//' in front of both code lines the avatar will work in your post.
//$avatar = fetch_avatar_url($eventinfo['userid']);
//$eventinfo['avatarurl'] = $avatar[0];

If the calendars had rss feeds, which unfortunately they don't, you could just send a rss feed to each individual calendar forum category. I'm not sure why I am even posting this since you can't do it, unless somebody knows how to create a rss feed, for the calendar system.

The mods here, even when supported, should be thoroughly tested on a test site before deployment into a production environment. There are all sorts of quirks on even the best mods, and a test environment is the only place where you can evaluate how this will affect your site. My users sometimes complain because I'm slow to add new features. But they never get mad about something breaking or not working.

My site only runs on one calendar so it runs perfect for me. How ever I am willing to fix the issue with multiple calendars. I just need to find and fix the error. Which I can not find at this current point. I know what the error is and what is causing it just can't find a proper fix which does not cause more errors.
It also says beta which means it may not work fully to your expectations and it may have bugs. Let alone its hard to work on things for vb4 since they keep making changes. I expect more issues with further upgrades of vb4. That is another reason I am not rushing to fix all my mods all these patches and vb4 versions it always breaks things.

I installed this a couple of days ago on my test site (only one calendar tested) and it seemed to work fine, but when I installed it on my live site I found these problems:
1 - My usergroup 'registered users', who require their events to be moderated, get a database error when trying to post an event - oddly a thread appears awaiting moderation, but no event appears in the calendar.
I know this has been mentioned, but I don?t remember seeing an answer.
2 - My un-moderated usergroup 'Event organisers' can no longer edit their posted events, despite the permissions being set correctly - only admin/mods can.
It looks like utahraves has found a work around for this....
I don't know if I have said this or not, but only my admins and supermods can edit event threads. People that create their own calendar events cannot edit the events at all. I had to rewrite the style to allow the edit button to show up for EVERY user just so they can edit their own calendar events.
.... any chance to explaining how this is done for a newbie like me?
3 - It only works for the first calendar/forum set-up, but doesn't work for any others added it just hangs when you try to post, before returning a totally blank white page.
I have 9 different event calendars and I tried various combinations, always only trying to hook-up one calendar to one forum, but only the first one in the list works.
There is one answer!!!
I also asked if someone would try to use default vbulletin with more then one calendar to see if that works with out this mod. But no one even did that. Why should I work on a mod when it works fine for me and no one wants to help with the issue. I do all the work for free and go out of my way for what reason? Someone can test what I asked I do not have the time to install another copy of vbulletin and do all the testing.
I am new to all this, before I installed vb4.02 about four weeks ago, I had only ever had a basic vb3 site, whereas I?ve gone hack and mod happy the last few weeks as well as learning a bit about vb4 & CMS, i.e. no web-build or coding experience at all!
Now I?ve switched to a totally new default vb style, and disabled all products, which is what I assume you mean here or is there anything more I would need to do?
However, the three above problems are still there. :(
I have at least one or two of your other mods installed and I am very grateful to you for sharing them, but this would be the icing on the cake for the type of site I am developing, so let me know if there's anything I could do to help, although bear in mind I haven't much of a clue of what I am doing.
What I can promise is if you can solve these problems, I would be happy to donate towards a few drinks on me. :)

I installed this a couple of days ago on my test site (only one calendar tested) and it seemed to work fine, but when I installed it on my live site I found these problems.When installing on a test site, try to have the test site as closely mirror your live site as possible--usergroups, permissions, etc. This way you can fully test on the test site and run into problems there versus your live one.1 - My usergroup 'registered users', who require their events to be moderated, get a database error when trying to post an event - oddly a thread appears awaiting moderation, but no event appears in the calendar.
I know this has been mentioned, but I don?t remember seeing an answer.I remember this on the original mod. I had to disable all moderation for threads or calendar events. There was no way for me to get around that.2 - My un-moderated usergroup 'Event organisers' can no longer edit their posted events, despite the permissions being set correctly - only admin/mods can.Check permissions on both your calendars and threads. Because there are two different permissions being checked, this is one of the issues you can run across.
It looks like utahraves has found a work around for this....If this workaround is the only thing needed to make it work, then it's a simple style issue where the button isn't being shown based on permissions. You'd have to edit the style sheet, which is just html, to show the button to your group. You'll have to figure out some html coding for this, but it's not too hard. A lot of times, something else in the style sheet can be 'borrowed' and changed to suit what you need.
Check out the vb documentation on Style Manager to learn how to edit the individual templates.

Changing the default vb with mods is great, but you almost certainly will run into an issue at some point. But that being said, once you learn about the innerds of vb, you may even be bold enough to make your own mods. :)
thanks for working on this. always love this mod.
i edited template FORUMDISPLAY to change the text "Post new Thread" to "Add new Event"
in 2 places i changed
{vb:rawphrase post_new_thread}
to
<vb:if condition="$foruminfo[forumid] == 13">{vb:rawphrase add_new_event}<vb:else />{vb:rawphrase post_new_thread}</vb:if>
13 is my calendar forum id. if you have more than 1 calendar forum you could change it to <vb:if condition="in_array($foruminfo['forumid'], array(13,14,15))">
problem is it's not recognizing "rawphrase add_new_event". i'm brand new to vb4 so i don't know how to load the var. little help?

The problem is at line #256:
change
for($lv_vb_eventforums_i = 0; $lv_vb_eventforums_i<count($lv_vb_eventforums_map); $lv_vb_eventforums_i+2)
with
for($lv_vb_eventforums_i = 0; $lv_vb_eventforums_i<count($lv_vb_eventforums_map); $lv_vb_eventforums_i+=2)
This fixes the issue when inserting a new event in case of more than one calendar. There might be other issues as I haven't run a deep test yet.

When posting a event, if the event happens over a range of dates, I have to enter starting and ending times. Also, when displaying the events, the starting and ending times appear.
In my application, having to enter starting and ending times are not desirable. I have to make up times, when posting and event using the range tab because the application forces the starting and ending time entry. Then the made up starting and ending times show up in the event listing.
Is there anyway to eliminate starting and ending times from the events? I see I can remove the variable $DATETIME, but then the Date does not appear either. If there were a $DATE variable, that only returned the date, then at least the listing would not show the starting and ending time values.
Is there a way I can change this?
Thanks for the great Mod!

Not sure if this problem is related to this mod or Farcaster's Event Attendance v3 (for vb4).
I can add threads that are associated with a calendar, but shouldn't I be able to simply post a thread too?

I'm having trouble with users in the default 'registered users' group, using default usergroup and forum permissions, are unable to create a new event. Admins and Super Moderators can do this with no issue, but when a registered user attempts to add a new event I receive I database error email, and the new thread goes into 'moderated' status. The new thread is not linked to the calendar event and the RVSP add-on also isn't shown in new thread either.
The DB error I am receiving is as follows:
Database error in vBulletin 4.0.2:
Invalid SQL:
DELETE FROM vb_moderation
WHERE type = 'thread'
AND threadid = 49;
MySQL Error : Unknown column 'threadid' in 'where clause'
Error Number : 1054

Script : http://forums.xxxx.com/calendar.php?do=update&e=
Referrer : http://forums.xxxx.com/calendar.php?do=add&type=single&c=1&f=4
Again, this does not happen for Administrators and Super Moderators.
Any thoughts?

I remember this on the original mod. I had to disable all moderation for threads or calendar events. There was no way for me to get around that.

Well.. I finally found one more place where moderation was set (by editing the calendar itself.. not just the calendar permissions). I swear.. there are way too many places for permissions to be set in VB. Anyway, it's working now. Sorry for the spam.
Thanks for this mod... it's exactly what I was looking for when I first switched to VB.

Running to the airport so maybe this was raised already but....
The integration works nicely with the "default" calendar... Any secondary calendar however errors out when trying to make an event.

One is supposed to read through ALL the pages of a mod before installing. The solution is at https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showpost.php?p=2019855&postcount=206 .
Two puzzling things though. One, why hasn't the first post been updated with this info yet? And two, who is this guy anyway with one post that managed to figure out the problem when nobody else could? Is he available for hire?

Can I please ask a question? I installed this and it works perfectly (thanks heaps) but I was hoping to change something.
As the event thread title format, the default info is '%title%custom: %datetime'. How can I have it so that the '%custom' fields also appear inside the thread with the event description? I have additional custom fields such as 'address' and 'host' and i need this info displayed clearly inside the thread...
Cheers!

I think a much bigger factor right now is the lack of documentation, and the changing nature of early vb4 versions. Even the best programmer can't spend six months analyzing vb code only to find it changes with the next update. It will all settle down eventually.

In the previous version of Event forums you could set 1 forum to be able to handle events as well as normal threads. Is this still possible?
Also is there any way to automatically set a thread prefix on to a new event automatically? How much code would need to be changed to do this?
