Different background for different section

I am trying to find a way to differentiate different section on forum homepage and sub-forum pages using different background, just like this forum and having hard time to find the right vars. could someone help?

I think this would require some custom CSS. Stylevars does not support this at the moment. I believe you can change entire backgrounds per forum though.

Thank you daveaite for the replay. At least I learned that it is not posible to do it at Stylevar level.
