...from the list of vBulletin sites that's floating around here somewhere?
This is the only place I listed my vBulletin forum, and the only members who have joined all have exactly two things in common:
1. They are ALL spamming my board with crap.
2. They ALL have vBulletin bulletin boards.
For some stupid reason, I thought the list was created to see other sites created, share ideas and look at other formats, but evidently the only reason it exists is to allow other board members to spam new administrators with bogus sign-ups and bullsh** posts.

What list ?
Yeah, what list are you guys talking about? We have no list of sites here at vb.org that people get added to.

perhaps it's on the .com site - sometimes I confuse the two. It's a directory listing of vBulletin sites...

There is some directory that you may choose to list your site in over on vb.com. vb.org has nothing to do with it though.

Same with me here... Since I posted a link to my website on vbulletin.com I got about 10-15 new members and started posting SPAM with bogus links, signups etc etc etc...(and getting roughly 2-3 new SPAMMERs everyday now)
:(
I know there is no list of your site but I posted my forum link in a post as I was having some problem with my forum in IE7 & 8...
Anyway... any good tips or ideas anyone have to STOP SPAM as much as possible?
May be for vB 4.x we need few SPAM control mods e.g.
1) Registration Time Control (if it takes an user to sign up in less than x amount of seconds then it won't be registered and declined)
2) If anyone is using fake IP address then it will also decline user to register OR his actual REAL IP shows up so as soon as he spams and if any mods/admins see it .. We can just ban the person using that REAL IP :D

I have created an extra profile field for new registrations. Its more or less a human verification question.
Example:
What the is the first letter of the name KevinGupta?. Obvious its "K" but by default it will show as "G" for example. Automated spambots crash on it as they can't figure out how to change it.
Human spambots you will always keep, unless we nuke a specific country where all these idiots are residing :)
Btw: where do i find this directory list at vb.com again?

Log in to vB.com Member Area, then click on EDIT OPTIONS on the right hand side, mark the Radio Button as NO but I can confirm you will STILL get bots signing up and posting. I have vB4 installed on my site and I have never been listed on here but I always get bots sign up. The only real way to stop them is to moderate members and also make sure users have to click on a link in their emails.

I dont use email verification and have no spambots registering either. Did you try the profile fields trick?

You can remove yourself from the directory list at vb.com by going to your member profile and editing your site details ;)
