You are very welcome :)

Many thanks for clicking Installed. Always amazes me, especially with MAJOR modifications that coders release, the time the effort and resources they expend, and members on here have only to click the "install" link, to show gratitude. Much appreciated.

Thanks

Very Welcome. I have tons of bbcode enhancements, I may add more later this week/next week when I get the opportunity. Mind you a lot of our stuff is Australia based :)

I love it too but I have one small issue. We use a lot of self made routes in our MINI Club to post on the forum. I just tried one as an example and the route does not show, only the map itself. Here is a google map link that we just used (http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?source=ig&hl=en&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Browns+Summit,+NC&gl=us&ei=5Pw5S5CTGI3ilAfR8_GgBw&ved=0CAsQ8gEwAA&msa=0&msid=108286888553679296824.00047bd3022f955f5a820&ll=36.75539,-81.285095&spn=0.737184,1.413116&z=10) on a recent excursion. If you can get this to work this will be my vote for MOD of the year!

Marked as Installed and Rated 5 Stars :)

Thank you!
It rocks!!

You know what would be superb?
If the Map window in the post would enable a user to navigate (up/down/zoom).
When the user is at a new location, to have the Link button easily accesible.

So they could copy/paste that link there, and make a new [maps] tag for their new post without going to maps.google.com

THANKS for this!! :D

G'day Mark,

Yeah I have tried fiddling with the code, even iframing it. Its not an easy solution that. I will give it some thought, because we also do "rallys" for outback camping up and down east coast of Australia, so would be useful to us too.

Hola Como,

You should be able to zoom in and out scroll etc.

Not sure about the link.

But the code could be adapted to echo the original link to the map ( i am sure ) if thats what you mean.

Hello!
To clarify my thought:
Let's say on your example pages, you have Bondi Bay centered.

Say I scroll to the south-west and stop at Tamarama Bay.
I want to make a new post, commenting on Tamarama Bay and what I'm seeing.
The Link in this case would be different.

Could there be a way then to acquire the Link, for this new post discussing Tamarama?

Thanks... as it is, it ROCKS! :D

wacnstac

I had to reduce it to this in order to get a map to show at all:

<center><iframe width="100%" height="600" frameborder="0" scrolling="yes" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="{param}&output=embed"></iframe></center>

and then it still doesn't show the correct map.

LOL yeah that would be bloody sweet. I will look at the Google API

Hmm...

<div align="center" style="margin: 5px 5px 5px 5px;">
<table class="tborder" cellpadding="6" cellspacing="1" border="0" width="500">
<tr>
<td class="thead" style="text-align:center"><iframe width="500" height="500" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="{param}&output=embed"></iframe></td>
</tr>

Try that

btw, the difference that I can see in whether it worked for me or not was in the test spot (mod forum) I have HTML ON, in the regular forum, HTML is OFF, and it showed me that coffeyville map there.

This is great! I find however if I use the Streetview link code, it will not translate into the streetview as it would if I pasted the URL code into a browser window...it goes straight to map.

It's weird, because all you're really doing is using an iFrame but it must be something on Google's end?

TimberFloorAu
01-28-2010, 02:49 AM
The BBCODE parses the google linking.

Iframe is different.

The code for iframe is similar: I use this...

Use this code in your text replacement.

<table class="tborder" cellpadding="6" cellspacing="1" border="0" width="100%" height="600" style="margin:10px 0">
<thead>
<tr>
<td class="tcat" colspan="2" style="text-align:center">
<a href="{param}" title="Go to site directly" target="_new">Go to the site directly</a>
</td>
</tr>
</thead>
<tr>
<td>
<iFrame src="{param}" width="100%" height="600"marginheight="0" scrolling="no" frameborder="0"></iframe>
</td>
</tr>
</table>

Then link goes here

Ste

I am copying from a drop down at the upper RH corner of the map. I tried each of these but both give me the "default location"

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=houghton+lake+mi&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=49.71116,95.888672&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Houghton+Lake,+Roscommon,+Michigan&t=h&z=13

I figured it out. Seems that if you search for a location on GM and immediately find it, and copy and paste that URL, it won't work. You have to move the map around and maybe zoom in or out and copy that URL and it will work.

They are predefined pushpins embedded into Google Maps. Some use Panorama etc, others are user submitted via the web. But you cannot create your own, and add them. AFAIK on the fly.

Ok I may have figured out one issue.

If you go onto google maps, and search for somewhere.

Then move the map, scroll or zoom. Then click the link, it appears google code isnt updating the link.

You need to ensure the place you are looking for is the exact one you typed into the search.

The added code I made does work. But If you are not having issues, I wouldnt use it, as it will parse that added code twice.

However, once a message is upgraded to an article, the placemarks DO SHOW on the CMS page! :)
So why does it show placemarks on the CMS page but not within the forum message?

Could you explain please Moose?

I would love to have the placemarks show on maps in the forum itself.
I copied the link from the first box in Google Maps and posted that in a forum message.
After promoting the message to an article and all the placemarks showed, I noticed iframe tags in the CMS source code.
Seems to me that this is the reason why placemarks are not shown in the forum message but do show on the CMS page.

TimberFloorAu
01-29-2010, 12:28 AM
Well, sounds like you should implement HTML within your CMS. Custom for what you want.

Aside from php includes, the only way to plop stuff into a page from gmaps is using iframe. Or similar.

voglermc

I wonder if having HTML turned off in posts matters?

TimberFloorAu
01-29-2010, 12:59 AM
I wouldnt allow HTML to be on, its asking for trouble.

I suggest tho, you could create your own vb powered page ( Lynn has a Tut for it )

Then create your own html block hard coded into a vb wrapped page.

Edrondol
01-30-2010, 02:08 PM
We put this on our page and it took lass than 2 hours for someone to discover that this code allows not only Google Maps but will work with nearly ANY url, which causes recursive loops and opens your site up for people to use this and put in damaging code.

I love the idea but the actual product itself is flawed and dangerous. I'd point you to a thread to show you what I mean but we had to take it down because it was causing server issues.

Would there be any way to use this so you could have members display a map image in their postbit location? They would have to go to thier profile and input a map image, then I guess an image would be needed to be displayed in the postbit so others could click on it to see the image location.

Also where would you add the map.gif image if you want it to show in the quick reply editor?

Thanks for this!

TimberFloorAu
01-31-2010, 07:07 PM
Easier would be a memberinfo block, that is set up by a user defined field.

So members could add their location, which would be displayed in the memberinfo block, linked from their postbit via a link , i supposed My Location: Click Here

Quick suggestion from seeing other people use my site, and the google Map post:::
Could the navigation buttons (zoom +/-, up,down,...) have the options of google Maps for small/medium/large?

Might be wrong on my part, and the bigger buttons might not exist.
My user just saw the picture and smiled... oblivious to the zoom/nav buttons.

Thanks! It's working great over here!

The planned routes need to appear for this to be a complete mod and a link to go directly to the google maps for printing is mandatory.

Installed, works just great!...

One question, how do I get to the actual marker (A) as shown on your site? I have the same screen on Google Maps, and when I paste it into the BB code, it looses the market and info box for the location... (using in an article if that makes a difference)

Any ideas on how to fix this?

TimberFloorAu
02-08-2010, 06:45 PM
I guess the marker may have disappeared because you have zoomed, moved changed location of the map.

If you went onto google maps and typed.

Stone Mountain , Atlanta.

Then did nothing but copy the link code into the bbcode. It should show the relevant markers.

That is something to do with googles geo-coding, not something I can fix.

Do you have the original points you used to make that map? Probably GPS coordinates. If so, you can just go to http://maps.google.com, and search for "point A to point B to point C to point D, etc...". Then use that link.

EDIT: I just rewrote it for you: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=235632

I just noticed this today as well. I'm using IE8, I haven't confirmed if it's in other browsers. But the Street View icon is preventing the Zoom function from working.

EDIT: On further investigation, if you USE the street view and then exit out of it, you get a better user interface, as shown in my additional attachments. You can then utilize the zoom. But it's that first initial step that's causing the problem.

Is it possible to show the round controller (or the big controller) by default? Perhaps it has no problem..

It works perfect in Internet Explorer 7 & 8. But it doesn't in Firefox 3.6.3.

The marker within the map stays at its point when moving the map by clicking on it. But the marker should move with the map.

Can you confirm this problem?

I was also having the problem with the same map displaying no matter where I moved to in Google maps, but the security issue pointed out trumps all- I don't think people realize the damage that can be done with this- it basically opens an iframe to any website on the internet. A nefarious person can put in any type of html, flash, java, or any other web based exploit to download viruses or other damaging software to any computer who views the post with this in it. It completely over-rides the safety of not being able to use HTML on a forum page. Luckily the alternative viewer linked in the top post doesn't seem to have this flaw. I think it's great the author came up with the idea for this but he or she should really insist people uninstall this in favor of the alternate code, or update this code to remove the exploit if possible.

I'm sorry, but I'm not seeing how this is done. I'm trying to plug in various web urls and they're only bringing back a google map. Can you give me an example url that would embed in an iframe? I'd like to confirm if this can happen on my site.

Honestly I don't remember exactly what URL I used but what showed up in the window was my forum's custom 404 message- which means I could have programmed anything I want into that page/ If you want to try this is a link to a non-existent page on my website: http://www.juot.net/jjjj/joe.html just put that inside the [maps] tag and see what happens, if you get a red 404 error page then I could run any code I've chosen on your site... I just tested this again and got the 404 error page, which could contain any code I want it to- though trust me it's safe for the purpose of this experiment.

If you look at the code given:

<iframe width="100%" height="600" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="{param}&output=embed"></iframe>

The 'src' of the iframe is completely dependent on the parameter passed to it, it could be any website on any domain- if it's programmed to accept the '&output=embed' reference you can make it show anything.

edit- if you're saying you tried non google URL's and still got back google maps then you probably have the same error other people mentioned- the map isn't updating with new data in the URL- I don't know why that is happening it's not the code. Someone else going to your page would see the 'new' link.

Well if you don't care about security issues just use a plain iframe bb code, there is one on here that gives you forward and back buttons via javascript: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=170132
I have it installed but limited its use to admins & supermods... or you could edit this code and simply remove the "&output=embed" following the {param}, that will let you open any website in the frame.

This is great, however, for some reason when vBulletin parses the URL it adds the url bb code, thus giving a page not found error in the iframe.

That's a common issue- don't know why that happens, but if you install the 'alternative' that the author links to, https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=235625 that works correctly and gives even more options, and is more secure, so there is no reason not to use it. In the alternative you can paste the full url like here, or just put in Sedona, AZ or 123 Fake St., Springfield, MA to Austin, TX for routes. Even GPS coordinates.

There seems to be problem with this mod/bbcode after upgrading to 4.0.6, map embed simply shows default view/page, looks like VB is introducing space in 'src'

E.g: Adding below BBCODE

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=delhi&daddr=agra+to:Beawar,+Rajasthan,+India+to:Bijainag ar,+Rajasthan,+India+to:Ahmedabad,+Gujarat,+India+ to:belgaum+to:Goa,+India+to:Hubli,+Karnataka,+Indi a+to:Bangalore,+Karnataka,+India&hl=en&geocode=FazwtAEdAFyaBCkttn40W_0MOTHOTSBOSbfCUg%3BF fDingEdkFamBCnZQS98hQ10OTFCO1KpOO9KeA%3BFSBBjgEdgA huBCmDEvTos3BpOTGnX5RJ9xV5lQ%3BFXSfiwEdiwFzBCn3FIC NBT9pOTHG5KjXdqy3Jg%3BFVCOXwEd9ERTBClJ1Fu6ioReOTEW ZU9hEd3OTw%3BFXjb8QAd3dlwBCkvNpVQn2a_OzFf-97cHrM0fg%3BFWNf6wAdG-RoBClBtzZjELq_OzGSQPNi_4f46g%3BFZIj6gAdLXl6BCldDej uZ9e4OzGXMxEH4gPoCg%3BFU_uxQAdw_-fBCltTrTJcBauOzHgT35R6MPf-A&mra=ls&sll=20.8047,75.28158&sspn=30.373571,57.084961&ie=UTF8&z=5

produces below code in view src

<tr>
<td class="thead" style="text-align:center"><iframe width="100%" height="600" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&amp;source=s_d&amp;saddr=delhi&amp;daddr=agra+to:Beaw ar,+Rajasthan,+India+to:Bijainagar,+Rajasthan,+Ind ia+to:Ahmedabad,+Gujarat,+India+to:belgaum+to:Goa, +India+to:Hubli,+Karnataka,+India+to:Bangalore,+Ka rnataka,+India&amp;hl=en&amp;geocode=FazwtAEdAFyaBCkttn40W _0MOTHOTSBOSbfCUg%3BFfDingEdkFamBCnZQS98hQ10OTFCO1 KpOO9KeA%3BFSBBjgEdgAhuBCmDEvTos3BpOTGnX5RJ9xV5lQ% 3BFXSfiwEdiwFzBCn3FICNBT9pOTHG5KjXdqy3Jg%3BFVCOXwE d9ERTBClJ1Fu6ioReOTEWZU9hEd3OTw%3BFXjb8QAd3dlwBCkv NpVQn2a_OzFf-97cHrM0fg%3BFWNf6wAdG-RoBClBtzZjELq_OzGSQPNi_4f46g%3BFZIj6gAdLXl6BCldDej uZ9e4OzGXMxEH4gPoCg%3BFU_uxQAdw_-fBCltTrTJcBauOzHgT35R6MPf-A&amp;mra=ls&amp;sll=20.8047,75.28158&amp;sspn=30.373571,57. 08 4961&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;z=5&amp;output=embed"></iframe></td>
</tr>

As you can see spaces introduced in 'src' (e.g "to:Beaw ar" should be "to:Beawar"), any suggestions to fix the issue?

VB seems to be wrapping the link with [url] tags which break it? Even if I go in and edit them out of the post they come back.

Any ideas?

This has broken for me in the past couple of days too, maybe today. I have NOT updated recently. "Disable Word Wrapping Within This BB Code" is and has been set to Yes.

I've noticed that my Picasaweb slideshow embed has broken at the exact same time. Google must have changed their code:

This code takes the whole URL from the LINK code given by Google so even if the exact code changed this should still work, at least for new entries... But best I can tell everything is still working... But I use the "alternate code" mentioned in the top post mostly and can confirm that is still working.

Disable Automatic Link Parsing Within This BB Code must be set to "Yes."

thank you, that was it. It was working before the upgrade, and old posts don't have the link parsed, so I think the upgrade itself somehow switched that setting.

BirdOPrey5

In older versions of vbulletin "Disable Automatic Link Parsing.." wasn't even an available option, you should probably check all your other bb codes and set as appropriate.

BirdOPrey5

I don't know, it may not have been... it wasn't an option in 3.8.5, it was new in 3.8.6 so I don't know if 4.0.1 was before or after 3.8.5. I first saw 4.0.4 and it was there.

But I did find that if you slightly resize the IE window, the map appears. Maybe it is a default setting in IE that is making this not work the first time a map is shown.

N/M. I got it to work.

Remember, the replacement code uses HTML. Anytime you use "div" tags in the replacement area, you might have to enable HTML in the forums that you want to post this BB Code for it to work. Unless it is recoded, I do not see any other way around this issue.

Use the Allow HTML option at your own risk.

Go to your Forums & Moderators drop-down menu > Click on Forum Manager > Click on "Edit" of the forum(s) that you want to post the BB Code in and scroll down and enable "Allow HTML = YES!". Make sure you do this for the category as well as the forum and it should work. I also altered the code to allow for 1024x768 maps.

New replacement code:

<div align="center" style="margin: 5px 5px 5px 5px;">
<table class="tborder" cellpadding="6" cellspacing="1" border="0" width="100%">
<tr>
<td class="thead" style="text-align:center"><iframe width="1024" height="768" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="{param}&output=embed"></iframe></td>
</tr>
</table>
</div>

It should work now.

Works great for me.

This is absolutely NOT true. HTML should never be enabled on a public forum. If you find you need to enable it for a BB Code to work right there is something wrong with either your setup or the BB Code.

I've said it more than once in this thread- there is no reason anyone should be using this version of the BB Code. The "Alternate" version the author links to is far superior in functionality AND security.

Also in that thread we've found that removing the <divs> completely from the bbcode solved display issues users were having with newer versions of vBulletin 4.x. The divs really aren't needed.

SuperTaz

My point exactly. But, why even have an "enable html" option if it is such a security risk? vBulletin should take that out of the code if the risk is too high. Doesn't really make sense to keep it.

Some people run vBulletin on private servers where you can trust every registered member. They might want that option. My warning applies to people who run publicly accessible forums.

The best one is that:

<iframe width="100%" height="600" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="{param}&output=embed"></iframe>

That Center the Map and don't go out of the Screen, if the browserwindows go smaler.

And the Icon is to big :-)
