Hi there,

Few of our users are complaining about forum being a tad too slow at times. At times when they post, it times out. Page loading too is very slow. My rough guess is that about 30% of the users are facing this problem - and they are not from just one part of the world. One particular user isn't able to post any posting longer than 2-3 words.

My guess is that it is a host/server issue - is there any good way I can test the server? We're on shared hosting. We had some downtime few weeks ago too so that's why I'm suspect of the host.

If not host/server issue, what else could it be? I have turned off add-ons that we don't use but that hasn't made much difference.

Thanks in advance

Arsh

Contact your host, and look into upgrading?

I have contacted the host. They are unable to pin point the problem. They want to reproduce the problem when I contact them but it's not a problem I can reproduce at will.

Traffic to our forum has probably decreased a bit over last few months, so it is not the huge surge of traffic that is causing this. This is why upgrading isn't likely to fix the problem.

Try posting in the Server configuration forum at vBulletin.com/forum

Hi there,

Start with tuning-primer.sh and mysqltuner.pl (http://www.unix.com/web-programming-web-2-0-mashups/75618-mysql-tuning-tools-mysqltuner-pl-tuning-primer-sh.html)

These tools are really excellent. Tune with these simple free scripts and you will have a good baseline to further optimize.
