Install Directions:
1. Combine the [pixel pack 2] images folder with pixel pack 1 images.

Q: Can I change the background?
A: Yes, simply rename any large sized image to the one provided in the upload or go into stylevars and edit doc_background. This is the background settings for the theme.

Q: Do lighter images work with this theme.
A: Recent updates have allowed lighter and brighter images to be compatible.

Q: How come ads aren't working?
A: If an ad location doesn't work, which happens alot in vBulletin, just go to the ad templates under the theme, and add the ad code in the respective location where you want it.

I'm using a 26 inch screen monitor at 1920 x 1200 Resolution. I figured it should work for almost every user. What monitor and resolution are you using? I will see if I can get the image to repeat without looking repetitious.

I have a problem on the homepage, this is causing my all my widgets to the left to stretch across the page. My articles also stay compressed if I change the layout to remove the widgets. Also my widgets on the right don't show at all. Any ideas? Thanks

-You will need all of the Images from the zip folder in order to use Pixel Blue, all images will be included in that package. Just install the contents after the upload folder as normal. Then install both .xml files, or one or the other.

Edit: Droptop: Might be your layout. Doesn't seem like a theme issue. On my test site, (not my demo site since it only has forums), I have a left and right collumn. Actually you can see in the Demo Photos I have posted (thats from my test site) its working fine.

The main way to do this is to add this CSS...

Also while fixing this issue, I managed to optimize the speed of the load time by 50% by decreasing the size of the background image while maintaining the quality of the image.

Only problem I have is where you quick on say Links and get the drop down the links are almost unreadable because the bg color is about the same as the links.

Also, if a user goes to their settings and edits their profile then out to the right where there is text to help it's got the same problem. Can't read it because it's the same color almost as the background.

To anyone still trying to fix this problem you need to go into the StyleVar and change the Background for Postbit User.
I removed the Background image completely...i guess its up to what/how you want your forums to look like.

Great style. However, on the whitepixel one, if you take a look under the my profile, everything on the left hand side doesn't read well because of the white text on the light background. Anyway you could fix that?

Found some other hard to see portions of the site:


When inserting a video using the image icon in quick reply, users can't see the button options to say okay or cancel
When editing a signature, the upload signature picture box has grew text that is very difficult to see
When viewing messages in a thread that have been soft deleted, the manage and view post buttons are not clearly visible until mouse over
When an admin or moderator looks at a post that has been edited to compare the versions, the text is not viewable due to the colors when you have the option to compare them.
Under Settings - Friends & Contacts the option to show avatars is difficult to read
Under view profile, where you can leave visitor messages, the B I U are all difficult to see
Actually, a lot of the lettering under Settings have text that is difficult to read due to the coloring
When posting a new thread, the additional options have some text that is not centered properly as well as some text that is difficult to see


This is all on White Pixel, it isn't a huge deal but just thought I would point these out for you.

Yeah, but its time to move to 4.x. The more you keep investing into 3.8x, the harder it will be to part from it. In time, nothing will be supported for 3.8x. I'm not sure why vB keeps releasing updates for 3.8x as its old forum software. It just seems unreasonable to me to devote time to something expiring.

Login box is affected by the tab background
Searchbox is affected by nav background I think

I'm not sure why vB keeps releasing updates for 3.8x as its old forum software. It just seems unreasonable to me to devote time to something expiring.

Login box is affected by the tab background
Searchbox is affected by nav background I think

I don't know if the nav background effects the searchbox. The search box is showing white, and the nav background is rgb(51, 51, 51).

As for the login form, the tab background is a transparant image that's not white either.

Not sure where else to look.

Try using an addon for firefox called firebug. You can highlight certain components of vBulletin and it gives you hints to what stylevars it may be. :)

Also, can you tell me what to change to make the image scroll with the forums? From what I read, this is like it used to be. I want the mustang one to move with the forums since currently, due to image size, most users only see the top half of the car, haha.

You'll have to change it for each style accordingly.

Image scroll > doc_background > add to vertical > "fixed"

I wasn't aware that it wasn't fixed. If you want a reference, take a look at the other pixel style vars what they have for doc_background and just copy that. Right now my servers are down so I can't fix the themes as I switch to dedicated. I may be able to update the car theme though.

You may be installing over your original theme. I have this installed on a test server and on a demo server so

I have been using vbulletin for some years and am a web developer myself, so am quite well versed in the install process and administering vbulletin to some degree.

i install as a new style with no parent, and upload the xml file to the server and specify the relative path to it, rather than choosing from my local drive.

i think i will load up a test site and let you have a look around so you can give it a go yourself.

Its probably not your grid, just the way you vbulletin is setup. Meaning, check the current grid you have set in layouts.

Thanks, I did a bit of looking under the hood and apparently all the grids in vbcms_grid_xxx were not consistent with my main theme so using the grid editor wouldn't modify them.
Reverting them back to defaults seemed to solve the problem.

One thing I noticed is that all your screenshots are of the "forum" and not of the "CMS"

If your CMS looks fine with these styles couldn't you just flatten the grid and post up the code so we all can use it??

I would think that would be an easier route vs. giving you admin access to my server.

Just an idea, seems more then a few people are asking for this grid.

Still not working properly on my board. The grid adds 2x 50% width columns, but the third is nowhere to be found. For right now, all of the standard layouts work side any 3 column layout, so I'm going to stick with a different default grid. A 2 column with sidebar works properly as well, so I'm thinking the issue lies in the third column somewhere.

Honestly, if you look at the vBulletin.com forums, facebook connect will be obsolete soon, and will be replaced with Open Graph or whatever its called. Facebook is planning on merging their Connect button with a bunch of other websites like Google/Yahoo/Myspace,OpenID, so that logging into sites really becomes alot easier for everyone.

So all these facebook connect problems will be a thing of the past give or take a few months-year at most...

In that time, you may lose all your members that joined through facebook connect, due to database config...who knows how it will be set up.

vb 4.04 is supposed to have a facebook bridge in it, whereby threads go to a facebook site along with your forum. I think vbulletin is staying on top of this issue, and, unfortunately, (I'm not a facebook fan by any means...) this whole interaction is here to stay.

I think that when you connect with facebook connect, and you're a new user to the forum, vb creates that user in your database. If you're a current user, and you connect with facebook, it will either log you in as that facebook user, or, you can associate your facebook account with a current forum account.

And then, to complicate matters, in the typical "take over the world" facebook fashion, when you log in with an account that exists on your forum, facebook creates yet another user (your forum user).

I'm not quite sure I understand it all yet. But, unfortunately, for those of us with websites, I think this is going to be a necessary evil.

It shouldn't be that difficult. in the Header, just put the code as I listed it. Problem is, I'm stuck with this style's log in template; I can't seem to find it. That code also has to go in the log in template. It should work at that point.

Personally, I've drifted away from the whole facebook connect thing, but, given that vb4.04 is supposed to have increased facebook functionality, it's something to consider for the future.

Updates on this or perhaps it's just me?

When I check something such as the edit history of a post, I get this "white background" making it impossible to read anything (Attachment -- ignore the red box, I put that there).

Another question I have is about the postbit vs. postbit legacy. It seems like only the postbit legacy version takes on the stylevar for postbit_background: url(images/pixelpremium/bk2.png). When I use the normal postbit, the background is simply transparent. Is this a style error, am I looking at the wrong stylevar, or something else?

This just means your putting the pixel folder in the wrong directory

Here's a question. I've got a heavy modifcation that seems to work pretty snazzy, but when I look at it on an iPhone or an iPad, it comes out like this:

On Safari/IE/FF it displays correctly as designed:

On iPhone (image scales and does not stay fixed in background):

On iPad: (image scales and does not stay fixed in background):

Has anyone found a work-around for mobile browsers and the fixed background?

Hmm...I will go ahead and say you are further down the line than most users testing out vBuletin on mobile devices. The forum software wasn't designed to work with mobile devices and pretty much everyone is struggling to get their sites to work correctly with them

So frustrated .. the Default Style looks fine with 2 column + sidebar 25% 75% 240px, but the Pixels style places the "Our Sponsors" and the Primary Content section below the 25% instead of in the 75% area. What gives?

Unsure what your issue. Could be a million of things.


Also with the addition of facebook connect in vBulletin 4.04 soon, I will test the theme and see if I can integrate it with the advanced log-in. Once 4.04 is released, that is.

The files were uploaded as indicated. I imported the xml and if I go to the forum, I can see the logo and the status icon on place, but not the colors, the bars, the background. All still as the style I have now. Just the header and icons.

I am online now if we can fix this together....

You put the main folder in the wrong directory. :P

YOu need to upload the images to the /forum/images folder, it should look something like this

forum/images/pixelpremium/ (and here are all the icons and what not)

Make sure whatever theme you are using has its' own folder in the images section of your root.

Facebook connect implementation would be nice. not sure if the new 4.0.4 messed up any of the skins yet.

I'm hoping the style generator will help eliminate the portions of your skin where the text is impossible to read because of the background and text matching
