View Full Version : Miscellaneous Hacks - VSa - Advanced Permissions Based on Post Count
Valter
01-22-2010, 10:00 PM
Info:
This product allows you to set permissions based on users post count for:
-viewing forum (threads listing),
-viewing threads content,
-creating new threads,
-replying to threads,
-viewing attachments,
-Viewing/Posting links/images and e-mail addresses,
-adding links to signatures
-voting on polls,
-sending private messages,
-sending e-mails,
-posting Visitor messages
-viewing Albums
-creating new Albums
-posting Picture comments
-viewing Social Groups
-creating new Social Groups
-posting Group messages
This will disallow members with no permissions to view forums/threads/posts/links through normal view, printthread, search, archive, thread preview. Note that you can set Forum/Thread Permissions for each forum/sub-forum separately. Screenshot shows additional options in Forum Manager and error messages shown to user when trying to view restricted area.
How it works and why it's better than vB Promotions system?!
Forum is shown on forumhome but with "Locked" icon and if you have no needed post count you'll get "no permission" error message. When you set this via vB Promotions system forum is hidden on forumhome and you must create additional usergroup to make all this working. When user collect needed amount of posts he will be able to access protected forum immediately. When you set this via vB Promotions system then user must wait until Promotions task is executed ... then he will be able to access protected forum. How much time user must wait it depends on settings in AdminCP/Scheduled Tasks... and if you set this to run every minute it pushes your server. If you set it to 2 or more minutes then user must wait more and more... and nobody like it.

I cannot update individual forums. As soon as I go to save I get this error, "The service is unavailable." As soon as I disable this addon the error goes away. I am using vb version 4.0.1. :(
The SQL error that I get is MySQL Error : Unknown column 'accessf_nb' in 'field list'.

I am looking for a mod to prevent the Registered Users group from posting any links regardless of post count. Please help me determine if this will work.
I was thinking I could set the new users group to not be able to post links untill they have 9999 posts for example. But will that display a message "You cannot post links until you have 9999 posts"? That would just look mean.
Is there a better way to use this to accomplish my goal or am I better doing something else?
Forgive me if this has been addressed in your previous versions but I thought I should ask here.
Thank you

I like the link idea although that could be hard to implement. I came here to suggest restricting avatars/sigs/user title. Perhaps PMs and visitor messages? Would really cut down on spam via PMs. Recently had to ban someone who PMed everyone.
And I remember you as Cybernetic, I used almost all your mods in 3.x!

I have in my settings to ignore the settings for usergroups: 1,5,6,7
now I WANT usergroup 1 (not logged in, not registered) to be able to see the whole forum. (ie: i want google to be able to crawl it.) The links and images are already blocked out using a separate system.
However when i go to the site as a visitor i still cannot view any threads... any ideas?
Also as for my last post, i was able to fix the issue by disabling vbseo and setting up VSa then re-enabling vbseo :)

02-11-2010, 09:50 AM
Any chance of implementing this:
Require Captcha based on post count
(user must fill out captcha field if enabled and they are under X amount of posts)
Would be a great additional way to stop robots/ forum spam

I posted this in the v3.8 thread, but am repeating it here as I guess its more relevant to ask for additions to the current version, especially as we should really upgrade to vBv4 sometime soon. :rolleyes: :D
Feature request - Assuming I haven't missed something - A log of failed attempts to PM/e-mail/whatever due to being blocked by this plugin would be useful.
Anyway, as I also said in the other thread and am happy to repeat here: Installed on 3.8 and we're very, very happy with the results.
Thanks Valter!

Ya, you need to be a Super Administrator to view it. I had the same issue, looked at the misc start plugin, noticed that he had it set to look for super admins, made myself a Super Admin and it came up just fine.

BUG REPORT FOR VB4.0.3:
When this addon is enabled it throws up a SQL DB error when you try to change yes/no to the following Forum option:
Forum is Open (Set this to 'No' to prevent any new posts being made in this forum)
It's definitely this addon as it works fine if you disable the addon!

I also found that any change to my forums through the Forum Manager resulted in the "Unknown column 'accessf_nb' in 'field list'" database error.
However, as suggested by Valter above, I uninstalled the mod - reinstalled it and redid my settings and all's well.
@Valter - just one suggestion/request.
I use your advanced forum permissions mod to restrict access to my classifieds sections (minimum post count of 10) and and your advanced forum rules mod to force people to be aware that they must use the templates provided when placing an ad.
Just now when testing the new install with a dummy user, I first had to read then agree to the classifieds rules - then after I'd agreed to them I was hit with with notice that I didn't have enough posts to use the classifieds.
If I were a standard user that would have irritated me (a lot) - is there any way to make the permissions mod execute before the rules mod?
Thanks for your work - very cool mods. :up:
Mike

Change plugin execution order.
Example:
- Advanced Permissions = 5
- Rules = 6

You may uninstalled old version AFTER installing new one for vB4, as you are missing database field required by this product to work properly.
If it's not big problem for you uninstall/re-install product to re-create required fields.

Great mod. Thank you!
A suggestion for the next release: How about the ability to restrict the creation of blog entries by post count. I have found that many of my new members, incorrectly create a blog entry when a forun post was actually required. The simple solution would be to restrict blog creation to members with more than x number of posts.
Thanks again

I would like to use this mod to reduce SPAM. Spammers register manually and then post links. I can see that this mod could be used to prevent link posting for users with less that x posts. However, what I'd like to know is how the mod identifies a link. Does it use a regex to match elements in a string or will it just spot the link BBCode?

I to can confirm that this is not working with 4.0.4 I've set it to where people need 75 posts to view a forum, however using a puppet account, I saw the forum without 75 posts, same issue with guests posting links. I can confirm that this did work before 4.0.4 as I do regular testing and I can assure you that it is no fault of my own but rather the fault of this addon.

This is an awesome mod, I'd like to make a request. Can a post ratio be built in rather than a set amount of posts?

I liked your previous version, the reason is because I was able to set permission for attachments for every forum, but now if i set a post count restriction it applies to all the forum and thats not good, please can you fix that?

I have uninstalled and reinstalled your product.
Hide links/images in signatures if user post count is less than (0 to disable) definitively doesn't work at vb 4.0.5. I have set it to ten. My test user can link anyway.
My other restrictions I've set seem to work.
-Post Links/Images/e-mails, set to 20 at specific forums.
-Post count user must have before can SEND PMs (0 to disable), set to 5.
Any fix? :);)

I found the answer and got it working.
It's not a glitch but it may be undocumented.
It is very simple.
The hack must be active in order to configure it.
You cannot have it inactive, get it all ready and then activate it.
As soon as I activated it, the forum set up page was generated.
I think that this is a bit counter intuitive and that it might be an idea to be able to configure it in a non-active state.
Anyway, besides that, the mod is simple, effective and works well, so thanks for this.

Unusual situation. Using 4.08 and am still building my site so it's currently private from viewers. Forum view restriction using this hack is working on one forum. Now cannot get to work on any other forums. The one that is working I believe I set up a few weeks back so perhaps I configured something since then that prevents this hack from working on any new forums (just weird that it works on one forum and not another). I see comments in this forum that some users are having trouble getting the product to work on various versions of VB but did not really see any clear resolution.
I'm only using this product because I want to prevent Unregistered users from viewing certain forums on my site. I know I can set permissions for unregistered users from viewing those forum but that also shuts down the RSS feeds for those forums and ALL child forums and I need those RSS feeds to be functional.
Any ideas?

I'm still trying to resolve this issue, but am finding the plug-in works in VB 4.08 in a forum I created PRIOR to upgrading to 4.08. If I try to create a new forum, update an existing forum or make a new forum based from the one that is working (now that I am on 4.08), the plug-in permissions do not prevent users from accessing the forum if they do not have the minimum post count.
If somebody reading this post is using this plugin and it is working correctly on 4.08, can you try to create a new forum and test to see if anything created after you have upgraded to 4.08 doesn't work. Just trying to see if others are having the same problem based on when they created the forum.:confused:

At the moment I can't use this modification.
The reason is, after setting the limit of posts to 50 for the forum i need it for, yes it will stop users from going into the forum and it also doesn't show the last Thread in there.
But when a guest or a user with under 50 posts, clicks on the 'What's New' tab, the threads for the 50 limit forum still show, even though they can't click and read the whole Thread they can still see the name of the Thread and hover over it to see part of it.
Am i missing a permission set up in the modification or is the right and a fault with the modification?

This permission is two in one, which reduces flexibility.

This Modification is brilliant. We've had problems with basic user-promotions to set a minimum 25 post limit for posting in a particular section (users who've been members for months, with hundreds of posts being missed), this mod solved the problem immediately.
One thing would make it perfect for me: The ability to determine exclusion from the post-count criteria on a per-forum basis (just as you can specify the criteria on a per-forum basis), rather than forum-wide in the general settings. This thing would seriously kick ass with that flexibility.
...OK, I'd also like to hack a donate link into the insufficient count dialogue, but I think I can manage that one :)
Thanks for a great mod!

An odd bug has just happened after we upgraded vb to 4.1.6
We don't allow users to start a thread until they get to 100 posts. Which now means that when a user (with less than 100 posts) reports a comment on the forum it actually gets sent to the mods by email instead of starting a thread in the reports forum which is the vb setting we have. The mods are getting a bit annoyed at this.
When this mod is disabled, the issue doesn't occur. And it happens when the mod isn't limiting by post count (we checked as we were use this pluging to limit the number of posts but moved it to usergroup permissions in testing).
So it's definitely this mod. Just wondering if there's a fix/way around it?

You could set up an exception on the forum where "reported posts" thread are being created I guess.
Just go to the mod settings page.
Click on "For Individual Forums"
Then edit the forum where the reported posts threads are being made.
And set the required post count in there to 0.

Hey there, we have done already. But when this mod is active it sends the report by anyone <100 posts by email, but not when this mod is active.
Would really love some support in fixing this, that I'd happily pay the developer for by donation or whatever.

Function ereg() is deprecated in /home/site/public_html/includes/class_postbit.php(340) : eval()'d code on line 65
If you really want to get rid of this the ereg's in "VSa - APBOUPC - P2 (PB)" plugin needs to be replaced with preg_match. Since it's not an error I haven't changed things over yet.

I have solved the erorr. You have to replace "ereg" with "preg_match" in "VSa - APBOUPC - P2 (PB)" plugin . Here is an example-
if ( ereg( "bmp|gif|jpg|png", $file )
// can become
if ( preg_match( "/(bmp|gif|jpg|png)/i", $file )

Ok, I have a new issue with this.
I seems that with this plugin enabled, I am unable to SOFT DELETE posts. Not threads, just posts. Perm Deletes work fine.
A little more info. When I do a soft delete, i get a FATAL ERROR message. I traced it to into the editpost.php, and near the bottom it passes the $foruminfo array into the DM class in order to decrement the reply_count by one. When it makes the call to the method "set_existing()", the fatal error occurs, that the value passed is not an array.
Disabling the plugin makes the error go away.
For grins, I added a line of code:
"$foruminfo = fetch_foruminfo($threadinfo['forumid'], false);"
right before the line that is crashing. This fixes the issue also.
But, something in the plugin is killing the $foruminfo array which is filled at the beginning of editpost.php and changed in one of the hooks this plugin is using.
I may research more, I may not. Ive been staring at this code for 8 hours now, which is how i found this much so far.
Anyone else have a similar issue?

Hi,
Few issues with this:
It is trivial to get around the PM limits check, simply use BCC when writing the message - the code only checks recipients, not BCC recipients
The add-on only checks the main user group, and not membergroups, when testing for which groups it is OK to send PM to despite limit
Suggested fix for both issues, replace body of private_insertpm_process plugin with below (tested in 3.8 but should be similar in 3.6/3.7/4.x):
if ($vbulletin->options['apboupc_global_enable'] AND $vbulletin->options['apboupc_pms'])
{
if (!is_member_of($vbulletin->userinfo, split(',', $vbulletin->options['apboupc_pm_excludedgroups'])) AND ($vbulletin->options['apboupc_pm_amount'] !='0') AND ($vbulletin->userinfo[posts] < $vbulletin->options['apboupc_pm_amount']))
{
$recs = &$pmdm->info['recipients'];
foreach($recs as $userid => $user) {
if(!is_member_of($user, split(',', $vbulletin->options['apboupc_pm_allowed']))) {
$db->hide_errors();
$apboupc_get_allowedrecs = $vbulletin->db->query_read("SELECT userid, username, usergroupid FROM `" . TABLE_PREFIX . "user` AS user WHERE `usergroupid` IN (".$vbulletin->options['apboupc_pm_allowed'].") ");
while ($apboupc_allowedrecs = $vbulletin->db->fetch_array($apboupc_get_allowedrecs))
{
$apboupc_allowedrec[] = $apboupc_allowedrecs['username'];
$allowed_recipients .= ', <a href="private.php?do=newpm&u='.$apboupc_allowedrecs['userid'].'">'.fetch_musername($apboupc_allowedrecs).'</a>';
}
$db->show_errors();
$allowed_recipients = substr($allowed_recipients, 1);
standard_error(fetch_error('error_postcount_too_lo w_pm', $vbulletin->options['apboupc_pm_amount'], $vbulletin->userinfo[posts], $allowed_recipients));
}
}
}
}
Note this will still only list 'possible target users' with usergroup equal to exclusion group; this is intentional in our case, but YMMV.

i want that older users (which mean they have at least 300 messages) may have to wait only X seconds between posting and not Y seconds as all.
Can you add something like this?

02-18-2012, 09:44 AM
I`d love to have the option that you forbid users to send PM`s to a specific usergroup.
So a user has the permission to send Private Messages, but not to a specific usergroup.
Would also be great to do all settings based on usergroup.
any chance ? ;)

We're presently using your Advanced Permissions Based on Post Count hack, and we're interested in setting minimum post counts in addition to the presently available maximum post count setting. For example, instead of admitting a member to Forum A when she reaches 1000 posts, we'd like to be able to remove a member from Form A when she hits 1000 posts. In this specific instance, we have a "Newbie Corner" and would like to limit it to users who have under 100 posts -- then kick them out of the nest when they hit 100. Can you help?

Can you add ability to set custom filters?
Example: the can't post email/link feature does not pick up unless there is a www or http involved. So in essence, its virtually pointless since someone could simply put something.com and spam away.
It would be great if you can put such filters. Thanks!

Unaffected Usergroups (list IDs, separate with commas): 5,6,7
Can send PMs to usergroups (list IDs, separate with commas): 5,6,7
Yet people that don't meet the minimum can't PM admin. any ideas what's wrong? I'm running the latest version if vB and the mod.

Still struggling with this. As far as I can tell everything in the vB PM Settings is right as is the Usergroup Settings as well as the plugin. When someone tries to PM they are told they don't have enough posts and that they can only PM staff but they can't. I disabled all plugins to see if there was a conflict but that didn't work.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any idea how to fix it?

Maybe you can add the same features based on reputation?
Because for example if we put that the users need to reach 50 post in order to access to the PM's they can reach even just by say "thanks" or "hello".
Also, if we create based on reputation and we promote the reputation system the community will increase quality posts.
what do you think?

Installed on a forum with over 100k members and its an amazing mod. Once completly happy will mark on here that we're using it and rate it but we're having a problem.
Anyone can send PM's no matter what settings we use. I have it set for min posts 5 and to allow them to send PM to staff. However I create a new account with 0 posts and can send PM's with no problem. Is it meant to stop people accessing the PM page or stop them from sending the messages?
Either way its not working. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
