When using the link to buddy list from User CP, the list of users does not show. I have tried disabling all mods in the Admin CP, but still no success. Can anyone help me fixing the problem?

Create a new style with no parent:
Styles & Templates > Style Manager > Add New Style
Parent Style: No Parent Style
Title: Default vBulletin
Allow User Selection: Yes
Save
Then browse the site using that totally default vbulletin style - do you still have the same problem?

Yes.

I am not very experienced, so bare with me... The url I am trying to use is http://www.your-forum.com/profile.php?do=editlist (maybe not called buddy list?)
Just installed the "canned replies (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=187043)" add-on. The option to make new canned replies did not either show in user CP, so I tried the url http://www.your-forum.com/cannedreplies.php - and that worked. My whole user CP also changed, and some new links showed. Among these "buddy list" link.
Hence, as I can see it I have two problems:
The link http://www.your-forum.com/profile.php?do=editlist does not work
The options to edit buddy list and canned replies do not show in user CP.

What version are you using? On my 3.8 site, the url would be profile.php?do=buddylist, not do=editlist.

3.8.2.
So - the link to editlist is apparently something from an older version and should be buddylist?

Yes. Like here, on 3.6.12, it is editlist, but on 3.8, it is buddylist. I think it may have changed in 3.7 when they added Friends Lists.

Thanks, Lynne. But - how do I edit this? :o

You would edit whatever template it is in.
To find the template to modify, do this - vboptions > General Settings > Add Template Name in HTML Comments > set to Yes . Then go back to your page and view the source code and you will see the name of the template called around your part of the code. (Sometimes the template is the one mentioned at the very top of the page source.)

Used search templates and found it in the GTPM_USERCP_SHELL. It works! http://tettinntil.no/forumet/images/smilies/dan.gif Thanks!!!
By the way - can I ask 2 more questions?
how do I add new links to the user CP when the add-on I reffered to above did not?
how do I translate text in user CP (tried language & phrases, but did not succeed)?

I don't have that template, so I don't know if their are template hooks or not in there. I would guess you can just add more links directly into the template though. As for translating, if it's a phrase, then that is done in the Phrase Manager. I'm not sure why that isn't working for you.

Did you use the method I posted about to find the template? There should be something in the template that defines the links. It could just be a variable in which case just do a search in your vb php pages for that variables to find where they are defined.

Yes, I found the upper part of the CP and added two links. But the last part is "Blog" and "My smilies", which are not part of the same template. I just can't figure out where these are defined... But working on it!

Since Blogs and My smilies are not default vbulletin, then I would guess they are done by a plugin. So, you'll need to find the plugin, which may lead to a template, and modify it there.

Yes, found it in the mysmilies plugin. But I have no idea of how to add a link inside a plugin, so I think I'll leave it there for now. Thanks again, Lynne! http://tettinntil.no/forumet/images/smilies/12.gif
