I've got a Non AJAX version of this that is SEO friendly, but I doubt I will release it. Im not a fan of vB4 series, so I've had a hard time getting into the spirit of doing anything serious for vB4 and lately. If someone (or someones) take this over, I'd be open to sharing all the versions that I have of this to include the jQuery versions and non AJAX versions.

Im spreading myself to thin with everything I've got going on. Doing customizations for vB, vivvo and now XF. Both vivvo and XF are OOP and thats where I spend most of my time which is why I've considered letting someone else take this over, but I want to find someone that is capable of taking it over and taking care of it... ya know? If I can't find that person(s), then I will try my best to keep it updated.

Going off someone else's post much earlier on in the thread about making the thread show for guests (so google would see it) I came up with the below for the second template edit.

If they're a guest (usergroup id 1) they'll see the full listing with the forums from all tabs else it'll show the tabbed forums.

I also added a second condition which checks whether the product is active or not. Might have been a less hacky way of doing it but I didn't like that if I disabled the product the forums would disappear until the template was re-edited.

Concerning the collapse issue I did some digging round for it but couldn't find a decent solution so ended up removing the buttons myself. I managed to fix the linking issue but it seems there was actually two issues involved.

I fixed the linkage issue by removing the {vb:raw relpath} from the href in the forumhome_forumbit_level1_post template. The value of that is being changed because of the yui call to that tab script. So removing the relpath variable fixed that part of the problem. However in Firefox the javascript still wasn't working (i.e. doing nothing). In IE it was actually working perfectly lol.

I don't have an experience with YUI but I suspect this is similar to an issue I've had with JQuery where the event listener (for the collapse button) needs to be re-binded for the dynamically generated content. That's more of a job for someone who has knowledge of YUI and javascipt though.

I have a small problem, Ive gotten the mod to work out of the box with the default style, doing the same changes in my custom style and it hasn't taken affect,

any ideas as to what could be the cause? its probably something very simple and its to late at night for me to think clearly :( so i hope when i wake up someone can tell me what im doing wrong

heres a bug I found on 4.1.1 while youre in the forum home main page if you hit the collapse button on the the right side my forums gets scrambled and turns it into a big white screen there are 2 attached files to describe the issue . though not many ppl use the collapse button its still a bug right ? but yes other than that it does work on 4.1.1

I have the same problem than you.

I tried to implement tabs with dhtml.

It is great.

-The tabs have no delay.100% speed.
-The collapsable button works perfect.
-The tranlations sistems works into tabs.
-The tabs remeber the last tabb you take when you returns.

Just one and big problem.

I have no idea how can I put differents categories with dinamic content into each tab. I can put differents forums in each tab, but they are static, not recharges the new post into....

I need collaboration to make a condicional that loads only the selected categories into:

I've installed this mod on my test environment (vBulletin 4.1.2).

While I haven't done any comprehensive regression testing (to ensure that no other site functionality has been broken), so far I can testify that this mod is working as described.

I love it. If all is well after I've performed the regressions, I'll install this to my live site.

this is a known bug. I've just not had anytime to look into it, let alone fix it. You can strip out all the collapse stuff to prevent users from trying to collapse.

I think I'll do just that. This mod is more valuable than collapsible forum categories.

I have merged all the YUI code together with vbulletin uses to save speed (this would pretty much always be manual edit) and I have added some css for a *loading* splash.
The loading splash still needs a little tweaking but it looks a lot better.
I also have a few ideas about SEO but tbh all I wouldnt worry to much if your feeding google sitemaps etc as no content wont be found.

Hi Zero .. ive recently upgraded to 4.1.2 .. and have noticed people have had problems with this tabbed system mod since vb updated, using bobsters code from the installation and ur code ..should all this work ? or does bobsters code need altering?

I am running 4.1.2 without issue. Inside the zip is a gif and an edit you make to the CSS which should be all safe to implement :)
I am not sure why people would have issues with 4.1.2 unless they had messed up the template edits due to them reverting templates.

If you went from 4.0.1->4.1.2 be prepared to hand merge the forumhome changes but vbulletin is much easier to merge now. If your reinstalling after the template edits are sorted its pretty much as per the instructions. Most issues I suspect is down to people making the odd mistake with the template merges.

i'm going to be doing a fresh install ... as i'm not using the same style i used with 4.0.1 .. i installed a new style.. so from what you've just said ..its follow bobster's instructions and all should be good?

The fix involved removing the background colour set for the tab content area which in the css was set white but really needn't be.

I have the idea to put code isntead forums. This is very usefull to put banners, functiones, widgets or anything that you need. I the example I put a little google map.

yes, click on Manage Tabs... in the Active Modules section (under the tabs), on the far right, click on Make this Default. Then that Module will be the default tab loaded.

The collapse has always been a bug in the vB4.0 version as I've never got around to fixing it. I have absolutely NO interest what so ever in vB4.x, so I won't be further developing this MOD. I have found someone willing to take it over tho, so maybe they will fix that bug.

As far as the Mod itself goes, it is designed to tab out CATEGORIES (not individual forums) & Content Modules. I created the Content Modules portion of the modification to handle things like BLOGs, CMS Content, Albums, Recent threads, Static & Dynamic Content etc... This includes creating your own Individual Forum Module (which is really just a recent threads module). If you don't know how to make your own php file to do this, you can always ask someone to make one for you. I couldn't tell you how many custom modules I've created for people that want specific dynamic content (Blogs, Project Tools, CMS, Albums etc... )

Anyway... again, it is not designed to tab out individual forums. Its built around FORUM HOME which displays CATEGORIES.

I love what you've done with your edits. Did you start off with this mod as a base and modify it, or did you do all changes by hand without any product importing?

Nope, the person that was interested in taking over the vb4 version of this hasn't got back to me.

I am back, a few RL issues forced me to slow down my dev work and things in general but thats all solved now.
I have a few things planned but if you list off what features/options you would like I will look to integrating them too.

Do you submit sitemaps? if so it then makes no difference to your SEO as your content is still *out there*
I have used this addon since we went vb4 and my site has grown and grown and I have seen no SEO hit.
Think about your forum home, other then the right column showing last post date/thread it has no real dynamic content that search engines would care about.
Sitemaps ensures you content is indexed properly not the forum home as such.
Remember as well that if we were to say dump the tabs content into the page as hidden div's the page would be slower to load which google cares about now.

I am working on a fix right now, simply put the collapse code vbulletin has scans the page for certian tags and applies the collapse's and tags the onclick event to found links. Because the tabs are loaded after the page is loaded (aka dynamic) the script that does this tagging has already run and does not rerun.

For now I would remove the tab code for now. Remove the following from forumhpme_forumbit_level1_nopost THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN FIXED AND A FIXED VERSION WILL BE COMING SOON

That will remove the button.

Regarding Santori's implementation, its not a tweaked version of this mod, his code loads the tab content along with the page as hidden div tags which means the vbulletin code can *tag* the collapse onclick to the divs. This also makes the pages a larger and I dont think the tabs live update themselves either unlike this mod. This is a lot like the vb3 version of a similar mod and not dynamic tab content.

Regarding vBSEO, I have vbSEO here and it all plays well.

Regarding SEO in general, like I said in the last post, if you are feeding google etc sitemaps there should be no real seo hit as your forum home page is not going to be affected in rankings tbh. In a way because the page size is smaller for forumhome you could actually benefit. Most of your google traffic will probably be *long tail* aka to specific threads rather then to your forumhome, having had a site using this for ages now its not had any negative effect I can see.

Do you guys find manual edits a problem?
The install should be very efficient when I get it going fully unlike a lot of mods auto install's which actually get ran on each page.

Yes please. I tried installing this one time on my forum a while ago, got caught up in a serious mess. An auto install would be delightful. honestly. there is a huge cry for that. I think auto-install could possibly boost this mod to one of the more used/popular mods around....

Regarding Santori's implementation, its not a tweaked version of this mod, his code loads the tab content along with the page as hidden div tags which means the vbulletin code can *tag* the collapse onclick to the divs. This also makes the pages a larger and I dont think the tabs live update themselves either unlike this mod. This is a lot like the vb3 version of a similar mod and not dynamic tab content.

For me the real utility for tabs into a vbforum is to expand the forum. If you make a tab with a large list of forums without the collapse button is very tedious to navigate...

I find my own solution, it can not be the best, but for me at the moment is the only solution I see.

Yes please. I tried installing this one time on my forum a while ago, got caught up in a serious mess. An auto install would be delightful. honestly. there is a huge cry for that. I think auto-install could possibly boost this mod to one of the more used/popular mods around....

Well good news on that front, I am making good progress with auto install and the test code works, now I am building an admin interface for it to select the styles to enable.
For those running this mod, you will probably have to revert the templates and remove the edits before applying the style using the automated method.

I didnt mean it quite as it sounded. This addon loads the tab's content from the server when you click a tab and if you were to re-click the tab the content would reload with any updates. Your site uses a similar approach to the vb3.8 mod like this where each tabs content is in the html of your forumhome but its hidden. When you click a tab the content is shown and the unselected tab content div is then hidden. If you reclick the same tab though the tabs content is not updated *dynamically* as such (aka fresh) it just shows the existing content. The mod your using is similar to how the collapse button works.
Because of this your page is larger then it would be if the hidden tab content was not loaded.

Regarding vbet, thats a dangerous mod for SEO to run and if you need translation primarily and not some hidden SEO benefit you can use various scripts which load if the users language is different using google translator.

A question, how important would an auto template install be?
Do you guys find manual edits a problem?
The install should be very efficient when I get it going fully unlike a lot of mods auto install's which actually get ran on each page.
I have found a possible way but I am just trying to work out if there is any point.


It all depends on your skill lever Zerohour, myself its not now a problem following instructions, but i recall when i first started was a nightmare being unknowledgable about the coding, im still only a novice myself but i manage.


Auto template is preferred but you have to go with whats better for yourself, we will be happy with that.

Tab colors are simple to change in CSS if i recall, im sure its been mentioned in an earlier post

The install will work like this, you install the mod, go to the Mods Styles section and enable the styleid's you want to use the tabbed forum home, the system will then compile the changes. If you choose to disable the styleid's tabbed mode it will automatically remove the changes :)
Without choosing which to enable NOTHING is changed.
As for tab colours etc I will be adding options for that soon too, the initial release though probably wont have those changes integrated yet as I want to get the auto installer out there first.

Mpfff, Sorry, but every tab have a own variable forumbits, It?s the same working for vbulletin 4. The same. But I don?t know why is the problem with the larger of the page if is faster of TFH.
Sorry, I dont?t see results or purpose to all. This is mod( tfh) is good , but some users have the same problems: The time to charging and the famous button.
Now I find a solution and you say somethings about the programation etc... but works my friend. As i say, you are efforting in the wrong way. :confused:

Due to some d/b issues I was encountering, I uninstalled all my plugins - including this one. However, now that my d/b issues are resolved, I went to reinstall this. Upon trying to install, it claims the tables already exist as if it hadn't been uninstalled.

Sadly I am not wrong, I have been doing this for a very very long time in regards to SEO.
I am a bit lost by your post, "if they search your homepage"? as in googling for "blah site:blah.com"? that still works or are you meaning on the page.
Hey, its cool if you dont believe me, use what you like, I am just trying to inform you that google really doesnt care about 1 page out of x pages on your site and it wont affect your rankings at all tbh. Its one page, not even a long tail page... if anything google probably ignores keywords on the index page due to its limited content appeal. Its the threads that matter.
I have used this for a long time now and my site grows and grows. I had a non ajax version before and saw NO drop at all but ymmv (your mileage may vary)

Take a DB backup and then remove that table only. Thats the only table used by this mod.

Internal linking (aka links inside the same domain blah.com/index.php -> blah.com/somethingelse.php) do not have any huge impact on ranking at all. The ranking is based on external sites linking to your pages which is why sitemaps fix the issue and also the quality of the page content. How your site is internally linked is not the ranking factor.

I installed this, but when it was done and I created my first tab, my forum homepage only showed the tab in the closed position. You have to click on the tab to open it up. I'd like it so that first tab is opened by default. I can't use it in it's current state.

Went in very easily - I saw this below and included <noscript> tags around the 'old' forum display script (rather than delete) so crawlers (who only see text) can see the standard forum layout. Also if A user has script disabled the standard layout is shown.

yes, click on Manage Tabs... in the Active Modules section (under the tabs), on the far right, click on Make this Default. Then that Module will be the default tab loaded.

Having a slight issue:

Installed the mod, uploaded the files, made the template edits, installed the product, and set up the tabs in the admincp.

The tabs display the correctly selected forums and then repeat ALL forums afterwards. For example:

Tab 1:

Displays Forums Selected For Tab 1

Then Displays ALL forums again below those selected forums

Tab 2:

Displays Forums Selected For Tab 2

Then Displays ALL forums again below those selected forums

i don't think it is bad for seo, plenty of forums have tabbed index's. Now, on the other hand, will having that many tabs confuse your users. Yes. In the most possible nicest way.

I am looking for a fix to that, initially use forum category id's as it should pull all the subforums below the category.
As for SEO, no it is not negative if you use sitemaps.

Do you submit sitemaps? if so it then makes no difference to your SEO as your content is still *out there*
I have used this addon since we went vb4 and my site has grown and grown and I have seen no SEO hit.
Think about your forum home, other then the right column showing last post date/thread it has no real dynamic content that search engines would care about.
Sitemaps ensures you content is indexed properly not the forum home as such.
Remember as well that if we were to say dump the tabs content into the page as hidden div's the page would be slower to load which google cares about now.

But one question, I have the mod "Vault Wiki" installed and this does not display any of the Wiki "forums" (the mod uses forums as a wiki) at all. Actually, it's not completely working right.

I have about 8 tabs I made, only a few of them seem to work. I've validated that the categories are in fact categories, but the subforums still do not display. Basically, anything 3 levels deep isn't displaying.

Here's an example of my hierarchy:

Root
--Level 2
----Level 3
------Level4

If a category is at level Root or Level 2, then the subforums will display in the tab, anything under it, I can't get it to display.

i installed your great innovation to our community (www.sprinter-forum.net)! It looks and works fine, but it is not the best performance at the load.

I tested our website with www.webpagetest.org. And so I see what's the problem:

Our dedicated server is standing in Berlin/Germany. But always "tabbed forum" is called, the modification goes to Sunnyville, CA. This is the not the shortest way from Germany :rolleyes:.
You can see the result at the attachments.

At every time, if users push a tab, they goes to CA. This is really not very performant for us.

Have I any chance that the integrated javascript not call in CA?

I've uninstall this add-on, because the YUI files, which this add-on is using, are in Canada. If I start a performance test (ex. http://www.webpagetest.org/), the result is not very fast.

I installed film strip mod first without any issues and love it, but now I have issue after installing Tabbed Forum Home mod. It gives me double film strips: one above the Tabbed Forum Home and one below Tabbed Home Forum, as shown below:

I read thru all 45 pages, and I honestly can't see to find any working fix, for the fact that "All Forums" module, shows all the forums to everyone no matter if they have premission to view it or not. -- Of course they can't view the contents, but it still shows the "last post by" and time and the name of the semi-private forum. -- this bug really needs to be fixed!

Found another bug with this.

Users with IE9, never get "reloads" in their browser windows, as IE9 caches all ajax stuff, so everything works, except "LAST POST" info never changes, as IE9 is caching it, even if the plugin is set NOT to cache.

Works fine in all other browsers, and older IE9's.

There a thread on how to change "cache headers" to make IE9 compatible with other AJAX scripting problems, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to port over those changes to this plugin.

This is one mod I really wish would be updated.

Well for sure it has a caching problem with IE9, if the user does not have the cache set to CHECK EVERY TIME I VISIT A WEBPAGE (which is not the default setting), on IE9, you never get to see the "reloads" when you switch tabbed pages, infact it can stay for over a day with no updates, so it sucks as users don't think there is any new posts, when in fact there is.

Step 3 is TEMPLATE Edits, not file edits.

You edit templates via the Admin CP.

Styles & Templates >> Style Manager >> Edit Templates (chose this from the drop down box for the particular style you want to edit) >> chose which template you want to edit.

I am working on a fix right now, simply put the collapse code vbulletin has scans the page for certian tags and applies the collapse's and tags the onclick event to found links. Because the tabs are loaded after the page is loaded (aka dynamic) the script that does this tagging has already run and does not rerun.

For now I would remove the tab code for now. Remove the following from forumhpme_forumbit_level1_nopost THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN FIXED AND A FIXED VERSION WILL BE COMING SOON

Regarding Santori's implementation, its not a tweaked version of this mod, his code loads the tab content along with the page as hidden div tags which means the vbulletin code can *tag* the collapse onclick to the divs. This also makes the pages a larger and I dont think the tabs live update themselves either unlike this mod. This is a lot like the vb3 version of a similar mod and not dynamic tab content.

Regarding vBSEO, I have vbSEO here and it all plays well.

Regarding SEO in general, like I said in the last post, if you are feeding google etc sitemaps there should be no real seo hit as your forum home page is not going to be affected in rankings tbh. In a way because the page size is smaller for forumhome you could actually benefit. Most of your google traffic will probably be *long tail* aka to specific threads rather then to your forumhome, having had a site using this for ages now its not had any negative effect I can see.

Works great on vB 4.1.7. Minus the hidden tabs when group ID is private. I guess you will have to treat it like a teaser. Although the Moderators tab did not how on regular user group test account. Installed. Such a great mod and blows mybb tabs away.

Ok, I installed and everything seemed to work alright.

I have two tabs "Forum" which is the main (default) forum, and "Events" which is obviously section for events.

When I load the main page, it takes forever to load the forum part. sometimes it wont show at all.

Is this something I've done wrong? or is it normal to take a while?

so this is not an option i would opt for due to having to re-code index.php on every update.

Its really not that tough to update as it is simple additions (not changes). Plus, its not like forum.php (not index.php) gets updated that often between releases.

I can't say it any more clear. You upload the contents of the "UPLOAD" folder into your forum root (which is the directory that contains all the core vB files). This is very BASIC stuff.

After some more diggin about it appears this mod will work with a site that uses multipul sub domains!
All you need to do is to in to ACP > Settings > Options > Site Name / URL / Contact Details and set "Always use Forum URL as Base Path" to no.

After that this mod should start working on a site were the forum component is using a different subdomain to the main Forum URL

e.g

Forum URL: example.com
Forum component URL : forums.example.com

as you can imagin im now quite please to have this working on my site as i had intended from the beginng :D

Note: I have just upgraded my forums to version 4.1.11 and wish to report this mod is working wonderfully with the new version.

I'm having an issue with a sub category of a category forum, and all it's subsforums, not being able to display.

My heiarchy is like this:

Cat1
Cat2
--SubCat2.1
--Subcat2.2
----Forum1
----Forum2
Cat3

I'm trying to create a tab that reveals Subcat2.2 and it's subforums with no luck. When I paste the forum ID of subcat2.2 the tab shows nothing. If I paste the ID of Cat2 then all the subcats with their subforums show. If I paste all the forum ids of Subcat2.2, still nothing shows.

Any idea on what I should do? Maybe there's been an update recently (but I don't think there has).

Yep I got the same problem too. -- Working fine last night, this morning all my sites that use this mod are DOA, no loading of the needed javascript. -- We need a OFFLINE mode, host the YUI libraries on our own site!

And edited the FORUMHOME template to load the file from the TFH folder in my forums, instead of from the 'bubbling-library' original link.

For everyone I attached the file, make it easier.

Download the 'dispatcher-min.js' file from my post, or the github link, save it to your PC, then login into your site by FTP, and upload the file into the TFH folder inside your forums directory.

Then login in admincp on your vbulletin, and if you do search in templates for 'dispatcher-min.js' you will find it is in only one template called FORUMHOME, select that template, click on EDIT, and in FIND type in dispatcher-min.js and it will take you one spot it is used were the URL path is currently 'js.bubbling-library.com/2.1/build/dispatcher/' change that part to be your domain path to the forums TFH folder, for example: 'movietalk.biz/forums/tfh/'

Hope this helps, it just a simple template edit after you upload the JS file to your site, infact with this change I find the plugin works faster, as fetching this file all the time from 'bubbling-library' was slow at times.

Hello~

I'm having an issue with a sub category of a category forum, and all it's subsforums, not being able to display.

My heiarchy is like this:

Cat1
Cat2
--SubCat2.1
--Subcat2.2
----Forum1
----Forum2
Cat3

I'm trying to create a tab that reveals Subcat2.2 and it's subforums with no luck. When I paste the forum ID of subcat2.2 the tab shows nothing. If I paste the ID of Cat2 then all the subcats with their subforums show. If I paste all the forum ids of Subcat2.2, still nothing shows.

Any idea on what I should do? Maybe there's been an update recently (but I don't think there has).

Will try to recreate/test that with both this YUI version and the new jQuery version.

Will this run with vbSEO?

I have made the modifications but it still is not working.

I'm not running the vbCMS or blog if that makes a difference but I am running vbSEO.

Yes it works with vbSEO as I run vbSEO myself on www.edugeek.net

This would be better taken over by someone who has more time to make it seo friendly.

Sigh.... its not a huge SEO penalty as has been said before, if you dont want ajax based loading then you should go for a static but fat page tab version.

I have re-installed this and am still having the issues of forum not showing
can you tell me about this edit I am on the latest version upgraded tonight 4.1.12

Oh and I am running the dispatcher within the webroot - it shows if I know the url just not in forum.php
