I installed this, but I deleted it because it gave a greyish like background, and the sub forum words was smooshed in with the description text of the parent forum.

I disagree, i love and need the control this mod offers. Thats why i had uninstalled the other sub forum hack available here. the lack of features did not suit my needs. Ive been waiting for this to become available and am happy as punch its here. and as far as being over complicated. that may be true for some but really easy to figure out i had installed it on my forum and configured it in about three minutes. i love that it allows you to manage different forums sub cats in different ways depending on how many columns you need. it really makes for a nice clean overall professional look.

They are using my PlugIn ;-) If you are referring to "Steam Game Discussions", then I believe that is simply setup as a Category (do not act as a forum). Below you will see "Media" which is a standard Forum with SubForums.

Question: Will this version upgrade my existing installation of 3.8 version? I think not because you have changed the productid.

"I guess not" Correct - Two comments...

This version will not operate on 3.8 and likewise the 3.8 version will not operate on 4.0
Both can be installed together (but only one should be enabled at a time) which makes it easy to migrate your options (install new, set options, disable old, enable new, remove old).

I installed this, but I deleted it because it gave a greyish like background, and the sub forum words was smooshed in with the description text of the parent forum.

I see this has been covered, but will mention it anyway...

Options a-plenty to allow you to do just about anything you want! Without creating a full guide (which no-one would probably read anyway) I set some options by default. This gives the installer an idea of some of the things that can be done.

Simply clear/wipe/erase/empty all the option fields and start from scratch if that helps ;-)

Put <br> at the start of the SubForum heading! NICE ;-)

I believe the intent behind the new template/styles of vBulletin 4 is to adjust all the appearances through the CSS. In this case, setting the the 'h4' style for the 'SubForums' class.

My own tests gave me varying results, but they were over several versions of vB4 from Beta onwards and the results did change between versions. I'll see how vb4 stabilizes before I jump in and make changes.

I appreciate you having you site link as it helps everyone (including me) see what is possible - I've seen people using various combinations of sorting / columns / more-less / show-hide / formatting / etc and it really makes some sites look great!

PS: For yours, I'd remove the &nbsp; from the Count Close Text (after the )) to get rid of that little space between the ) and the , or simply clear the ,&nbsp; from the SubForum separator option

Should just be a case of setting "Display Post/Thread Counts (combines with all previous settings)" / "Display Post/Thread Counts after SubForum name for" to "ALL"

PS: Feel free to play with the options - change / delete / etc - NO permanent damage can be done to your system, it only changes the runtime display - Disable the PlugIn to instantly go back to the original display - Uninstall and Re-install the PlugIn to go back to the defaults - Nice and safe!

Nope, unfortunately not, can it be caused that i have selected mod will HIDE any subforums?

Couldnt get it work in 3.8 either the last years. Also thought it was not possible.

Can somebody upload a screenshot of their admincp settings for this mod?

If you can, PM me access to your admincp and I'll take a look!

PS: Without the access I was able to look at your site and view the page source - my gut tells me that your style modifications are stopping the PlugIns special bits being inserted into the templates. Best way to know for sure is for you to test my PlugIn options and view in the default style - if all that works, it will be one of the customizations in your style - See post #1 for the templates that I need - We can then determine which one is the issue and what can/can't be changed for my PlugIn to do it's thing!

Both issues are most likely cause are variations in the Styles templates - First thing to see is how it works with the standard style. Install a new copy of vB4 in another machine / another directory, add my mod and play. Add your other changes one by one to see where it breaks.

You can also clear all the setting in my mod and see what you get - add them back one by one and see where it all stands.

While they are nice ideas, they are beyond the scope of this PlugIn (for now). The main purpose for this PlugIn is to simply take the existing text and reformat it in a nice table. The new CSS formatting utilized by vb4 is where I believe you would do the changes you need - Having my PlugIn automagically modify the templates is tricky enough, doing that to the CSS is not something I'm keen to attempt right now.

That seems extremely odd - if you have it on a test system I can see I'm happy to have a look, but as I do nothing with the categories, I cannot even guess at what may be happening.

Had to uninstall it, cause it was slowing my forum down dramatically. I guess this plugin is not optimized for large number of forums. Another thing that stops working after you install this plugin is that you can no longer collapse a section/category. It collapses the section plus all other sections underneath.

If you have a large number of forums, once you scroll all the way down on the page, it seems to be freezing the browser all the time.

Good effort nonetheless.

The only issue I have with this is as you can see in the attached image the collapse button conflicts with the subscribe button when the user is on 1024 screen resolution - if the site is using either the forum sidebar or vBa CMPS with a side column in the forums

The Sub Forums title for me is going into my forum description. How do I fix this?

http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/1365/424f9327d06a4ce4b3bf61e.png

As the solution earlier in this thread gave unsatifactor results on my forum i did an edit in the forumbits.css file in my style

.forumbit_nopost .forumbit_nopost .foruminfo .subforums {
margin-{vb:stylevar left}: {vb:stylevar padding};
position: relative;
_top: -{vb:stylevar padding};
}

As you can see i simply removed the top adjustment witch on my forum was reading -10px, and the problem was gone. i have not done any research on why this setting was there, and how it affects the original subforums layout.

I'd expect it to be part of the CSS, but I'm not an expert in that area. I'm guessing something to do with image position/border

An easy thing to try that I can think of would be to make a new expand/collapse icon that is wider with transparency where they overlap ;-)

Anyone able to get the subforum mod to work with the YUI tabbed home mod?

Need to get it together, but dont know where to add on the code or fix it.

I am reworking a site and have the Tabbed Forum Home mod already installed - https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=233135 and have now installed Sorky's subforum list control and so far it looks like they are both working with each other nicely. A match made in heaven!!

When you are on FORUMHOME and you minimize a forums block, it closes everyone below it and not just the individual block. I disabled your product and it fixed itself, so it is coming from your plugin.

Can anyone else try this and double confirm, thanks.

Is possible to add this in the forumdisplay too? I mean if

But I want to display this in the forumdisplay too, this would be great when you have a lot of subforums.

I was able to fix the collapsing forum issue by modifying the parse_templates plugin. I found the problem was related to missing </ol> tags in the html code delivered to the browser by comparing output using the baseline configuration where the collapse feature works, and with the Sub-Forum List Control enabled.

I tried to locate where these tags were supposed to be reinserted into the content per the embedded notes but I never determine where that should have been.

In the parse_templates plugin:

Replace:
$vbulletin->templatecache[forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost] = str_replace($Sorky01_SubforumOLBefore , '', $vbulletin->templatecache[forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost]);

With:
// hack to fix collapsing forums
// $vbulletin->templatecache[forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost] = str_replace($Sorky01_SubforumOLBefore , '', $vbulletin->templatecache[forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost]);
// end hack

bigrover
09-21-2010, 08:19 PM
I found another problem related to how the Sub-Forum List Control is handling the <ol> tag. When the parse_templates plugin replaces the data for categories it removes an <ol> tag that is defining the container that holds the displayed data, while leaving the closing </ol> tag. This causes the container to close early, leaving all remaining forums, and the footer outside of the bounding box. I can fix it by commenting out the removal of the <ol> tag as indicated below, but that causes problems with the table width resulting in the sub-forums getting bunched up to the left rather than properly spaced as intended by the mod. This is apparently caused by the class attribute in the <ol> tag. I modified the plugin to remove the class attribute and have satisfactory results.

In the parse_templates plugin:

Replace:
$vbulletin->templatecache[forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost] = str_replace($Sorky01_SubforumOLBefore , '', $vbulletin->templatecache[forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost]);

With:
// hack to correct forum home formatting
$Sorky01_SubforumOLReplace = '<ol>' . "\r\n";
$vbulletin->templatecache[forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost] = str_replace($Sorky01_SubforumOLBefore , $Sorky01_SubforumOLReplace, $vbulletin->templatecache[forumhome_forumbit_level1_nopost]);
// end hack

Okay maybe I am just stupid, but I seem to be the only one having this problem:

I have an NFL forum, and I have all the NFL Team sub-forums set up perfectly through this mod. But for some reason, I can figure out how to make my other forums their normal size (using the standard large "new post" icons and showing the last post, etc.

On my forums www.NationalFootballForum.com , I want the "Site News" and "General NFL Discussion" forums to go back to looking like they did before. Any ideas? I see it working on other peoples' forums but I can't figure it out on mine.

*Edit* Nevermind I figured this out. You've just got to set the forums an extra level down and change an option in your VB ACP

Sorry I've been away for such a long time... Different PC, new role, very little spare time and no copy of vBulletin to work with seriously impacts my ability to play with this ;-)

While the comments from "pedroenf" and "bigrover" will definitely help users with collapse issues, the real reason for the problem is (I expect) that my Mod is supposed to remove both the start and end outline, however I expect that in some users cases the applied class names "subforumlist commalist" may be different and the html produced does therefore not contain <ol class="subforumlist commalist">. This means that the start of the outline is not actually removed (as I intended) and hence the removal of the end of the outline causes issues.

Depending on feedback and time, I could (a) change that section of the code to be a little more reliable even with class changes or I could (b) make it possible to disable the outline change with an option or I could (c) just remove that section (lines 540 to 552). To do (a) I'll need to see a few sites that have my mod applied that I can look at to see the variations that I'd have to deal with. Note: I took the liberty of looking at pedroenf's site and saw <ol class="commalist">, so in that case, removing the "subforumlist " from line 542 of my Mod should also solve the problem, but in the way I intended, by removing the entire outline, both start and finish.

I am trying to disable the plugin only for our mobile style.

As you can see in this screenshot:

The table doesn't flow at all in the mobile theme, which uses <li>s, and rather than attempt to match it on the desktop and mobile version, it'd be awesome if I could just tell the subforum plugin NOT to apply when users are on that style.

I've also noticed it doesn't work now that I upgraded my test site to 4.1.7. The problem is all the subforums are grouped in one column. If I have the mod configured for 3 columns then everything is listed in the first third of the available space. It is also not formatted in any way, just a continuous list of forums.

I've already disabled all the other mods and am now going to rebuild a default style sheet and see if that helps. Otherwise I'm hosed and will have to disable the mod. I really hope that won't be necessary.

I've enjoyed the results of this mod for some time and hope it continues in future versions as well.

I have installed the SubForum List control in a test environment and I got it running. Now when installing it in the real environment it looks like this with all the subforums crammed together:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=133795&stc=1&d=1318592290
I have it set for three columns. I have gone through all settings and I can se no difference compared to my test environment.

The only difference is that the test environment was vB 4.1.6 and the real environment is vB4.1.7.

I would really appreciate some help. Really like this plugin.

Even I am facing this same problem. Can anybody help pls.
Thanks

Sorry folks - I changed jobs and I no longer have a vBulletin license... I'm now "unlicensed" and as such I don't have access to the code and a site to test it on.

I'm happy to take a look at someone's test site if they'd like.

So finally, i installed this mod, enabled it and write the forum-ids in it, but nothing changed @vBulletin 4.0.3? Is there any tutorial?

I have noticed some issues with font color while playing with this mod, and I was hoping to figure this out. No matter what I do I can't change the color of the mod's fonts. I can change the background color, and other things, but i went down the list of options and changed every color option there was, but none of them changed the font.

The font I am looking to change is the title of the subforums section that is below each category.

For example, it says:

Sub-forums: [speechbubble] link 1, [speechbubble] link 2, etc.

My links are colored to be dark blue/highlighted dark blue. The text "Sub-forums" is white. the links are unreadable when I change the background to a dark color, and the "sub-forums" text is unreadable when I switch it to a light background (which is the way I want it).

Is there a way to change that text's font color to a darker shade?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Go to the mod's options...

The "HTML" one's are available to add some formatting such as colour.

If I remember correctly, the "Forum Description" also has a class assigned by default.

Yea, the "forum description" one does have the class="forumdescription" bit in that field. does that field affect the "subforums:" text? If so, what should I change it to to darken the color? removing/adding the text doesn't really change anything as far as I can tell...

I'm trying to figure out which "html" field is the right one, so i've taken some screenshots of the ones I believe could be the right ones. I have already tried to change these to no avail, but maybe I was doing it wrong. I attached 2 screens of the settings i guess to be the ones to change, and a screen of what im trying to change... I know you don't have a vbulletin license anymore, so you can only guess from memory but any help is great.

once I find the field, what should I type in? I really don't have much experience with html...

<FONT COLOR="######">text text text text text</FONT> is this right? you have

bgcolor="#15317E" cellpadding="1" cellspacing="0"
bgcolor="#EBEBEB" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="1"

in 2 different fields, maybe that's what I need to add (without the cellpadding stuff) and I changed those colors, but they either don't do anything or don't change the text color, only the background.

The "HTML" formatting options insert whatever you type into the field so you can do pretty much anything...

Using this...

bgcolor="#15317E" cellpadding="1" cellspacing="0"

The full HTML would look like this...

<td bgcolor="#15317E" cellpadding="1" cellspacing="0">

Use whatever you want [eg: color="red"]

If you use class="xxx", then you define "xxx" in a style sheet.

I have a great problem with this gread mod. when i collapse my subforums know as "Community Area", then collapse it all under Community Area. Whats the problem?

Problem is most likely to be <div>s not matching up correctly, usually due to style or other modifications that modify the layout

Build a clean VBulletin, add my mod and check the operation. Then add your style. Then add other mods. When it breaks, you know the culprit and you have a place to start.

If the culprit is another Mod, often simply changing the priority of the Mods [put mine earlier] will solve the problem.

Sorky - I'm trying to do that right now. I'm also running the tabbed home page.

I think it needs to be earlier. Do I need to change all of your mod plugins to make it work?

does this work with 4.1.12?

nrms?

Installed on vbulletin 4.1.12 but does not work correctly with the settings of agreements, has no effect on the line list of sub-forums.

I leave an idea to improve the fit of settings: settings evitanto simplify the current confusion (eg, a definition is presented, then back to present another to overlap the same).

It's like it's working, but not working right. The "formatting" doesn't work at all, but it does re-arrange the sub-forums, just not the way you tell it to. lol

This.

I'm not familiar with this particular mod, but another option (linked below) may do what you want and it is compatible with all versions of vb4 right up through the latest 4.2.2.
