Now that there are two groups of us, some of us running JUST the forum and others running the entire suite, we need some kind of separation between the two to make the styles. I don't plan on and never plan on buying the suite in version 4 (I may not have the option in later editions) but since I won't have access to the CMS or the Blog in the suite, obviously I can not code a theme for them but I can code a forum design.

I need some way of letting others know that when they check for themes for their forums. Maybe the way they have it over at vb.com at the beginning of the thread or in the drop down box when choosing your version of vb?

Hmmm, good point. We could use the prefixes for this - we dont need the current default set in style forums, they dont really apply. I'll have a think about this. Ive been meaning to update some prefixes in other areas as well - and tbh, the default list could do with an overhaul. So much to do, so little time ......

So far it's been my experience that even if a style is designed for the forum only that it can be applied at the CMS level at any time and work normally. I have a style released for 4.0 and have to answer that question all the time. So while you can say it's forum only, it will work for both if you choose.

While that may be, the designer who codes it who only has a forum, needs to be able to delineate that, it's up to the one who downloads it to decide whether or not to go to the extra trouble.

but it gets default colors for the cms (you know the ugly blue ones) and blog then and will leave a half finished impression

It applied to my CMS just fine and I only created the style for the forum. The colors, gradients, etc. That's not to say that southernlady doesn't have a point in that the user should know what the style is defined for but by default most classes are applicable in both the CMS and blog.

user should know what the style is defined for
It would also help those of us who only have a forum to download styles designed for just a forum and not have extra unnecessary files to deal with or upload to our own site without going thru them with a fine tooth comb.

Neat, I don't have the forum only, so I was under the assumption it wouldn't have the extra weight of the stylevars for the CMS and blog built in to it also since it didn't use those products.

Good to know though.

I think it's kinda confusing now

"CMS Style"
"Forum only style"

Shouldn't the CMS be changed to Suite or something so it entails everything and not just the "CMS"

true it should be

Suite Style

Forum only Style

eather have it an option for the prefixes or request all stylers put it in their post title

EG: 4x Suite style (name like blue, green etc)

4x Forum Only style (name)

There needs to be an option in the prefixes for "Either" because the reality is a style does work for both, even if it's just designed for the forum only. Forcing them into one or the other is misleading.

misleading.

Being the word,I'm personally sick to death as i guess you guys are.You guys work so HARD to create themes only to find out "The ones above" update to keep their integrity of a dying deal.
Looking from a new webmaster point view 4.0.2 and the price people pay..Default theme as always, and they leave the good people as yourselves to pick the pieces up...Things need to change, value for money 5 out 10..

Ive changed the name from CMS Style to Suite Style.

A suite style is assumed to work on both the suite and forum - I really cant see that a style would be Suite only, so the two options are fine IMO.

Yeah, when you think about it I guess that makes sense when it comes to labeling.

I also think so

It would be useful to have prefixes or sub-forums for the styles to indicate the latest supported version.

I've tried searching '4.0.3' but it shows me zero results.
