update please read

can anyone point me in the right direction for updating from 3.6.x to 3.8.x i only want to update the xml version thanks so much in advance

What do you mean you only want to upgrade the xml version? If you upgrade your site, you upload all the files for 3.8 and then run the upgrade.php script. There is no xml file that you upload.
