View Full Version : What is the right way to add a new style?

This may be something very simple and most all of the styles have instructions however, for new people who have made changes to their default style they may not really know how to make a change properly.

I personally have always imported the new style then went through and changed all templates manually as were done in my default or other style I had been using.

Is there an easier way?

Importing a new style and merging it with the current style?
Making it a child of the current one you are using?

Or is there in fact no easy way and you always have to modify the templates directly which you had changed in your current style being used?

I hope to have the more experienced VB users reply as it would be helpful even if it is something as simple as a yes to the last question above.

Thanks!

If I export a style from my test site to use on my live site, I never then go and modify the templates. They should already be modified in the style I exported.

Lynne,

So you always use a test site rather than doing changes directly to the live site?
Makes sense and I doubt many people do this.

You did trigger something for me as I too have a test site which I used prior to the VB4 upgrade. You mentioned exporting which I can do for what I have then upload that to the test and make changes to test things out. Exporting when ready then makes life very easy.

Good reply. thank you very much!

Yes, I always do it first on my test site. My users are patient with me when I do things on the site, but I can only expect so much patience from them. :)
