Track Guest Visits

As of 23 Nov 2017 this modification has been withdrawn.

This tracks the number of guests that have visited a forum each day. This isn't possible in stock vbulletin as no record is kept of guest visits, they are a 'realtime' display only.

This modification adds another section to the "What's Going On" area.
It also has seperate pages to display (1) the list of guests, and (2) the pages a particular guest has visited

Options / Features ;

* The ability to turn the whole modification on/off.
* The ability to turn just the forumhome display on/off.
* The ability to allow (or prevent) certain usergroups viewing the forumhome display.
* The ability to switch between 'Today' and Rolling 24 Hours display (default).
* The script that the Guest is running is logged (e.g. showthread, usercp etc).
* The request variables in use are logged (e.g. threadid, userid etc).
* The guest table can be cleaned of old records to help control it's size.
* The datastore read (for spider detection) will read from the File/APC/Xcache datastore if used [note, not Memcache].
* Guest Views data collection - tracking each guests viewing of the forum index page, forums and threads.
* Guest Views data collection can be separately disabled.
* Multiple guest visits to the same page are logged separately.
* The option to keep a record of [and display] the most ever guests.
* Usergroup permissions are done with the standard vbulleten usergroup permissions system.
* Clicking on the main display icon will list the recent visits by all guests (if allowed).
* Clicking on a Guest type in the main display will list all recent visits by guests of that type (again, if allowed).
* Clicking on the option in the guest listing will show that guests viewing data (if enabled, and allowed).
* The main display can be set as always collapsed on initial page load (4.0.3 +)

Four new usergroup permissions are provided in the usergroup manager.

* Can View the Guests Visited Display - Members can view the guests visited display on Forumhome.
* Can View Guest IP Addresses - Members can see the ip addresses of visiting guests.
* Can View Guest Visits List - Members can view the list of guest visits page.
* Can View Guest Tracking Data - Members can view the individual guest visit tracking page.

* All (non usergroup) modification settings are in vBulletin Options > Guest Tracking.

To install (or upgrade);

Unzip the files.
If upgrading from a previous version, delete any old trg bitfield xml files from your ../includes/xml/ folder.
Upload the new bitfields file to your ../includes/xml/ folder.
Import the product into vBulletin using the ACP Product Manager.
Set your required permissions in the usergroup manager.


Note that by default no usergroup permissions are given, you must set them.


You can get an improved Spiders Definition file from this post (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forum/general/managing-your-community/361239-ws-spiders-list-for-updated-vbulletin-spiders-vbulletin-xml-files).

Note: For Spider detection to work you must set Enable Spider Display to 'Yes' in vBulletin Options > Who's Online Options.
The installation code will turn this on for you.

It is recommended that you visit your Who's Online page after installing this mod (or after updating your spiders file) to make sure your spider definitions are built / rebuilt.

If the "x" number of threads its exceded, a Messege shown in for login or register (based in cookies).

I remember one mod for make this in vb3 but dont works 100% in vb4 :(

My solution was to add this to the top on config.php: right after: <?php

define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

To disable Hooks, then uninstall this mod

Unfortunately, if you cannot login to the acp due to the error then you will have to edit your config file as above in order to disable the faulty hook before you can replace it.

At the moment, anyone trying to use these display options will simply get a no permissions page, even if they technically have permission to view them. Note that the data for these pages will still be collected (if enabled), it is simply the display I havent completed yet.

Beta 5 (4.0.0.5)

This adds the Guest List display, either for all types or individual types.

The Guest Views Display is still disabled. Unless any bugs are found over the next day, it will be added in the next release (which should be the final version).

Edit: Updated to Beta 6, due to an ip display issue.

Those are mysql connection and system errors, I dont see how they could be related. The query in the first one is totally unrelated to this mod, it deleting a record from the adminutil table.

Just upgraded to 4.0.2 and installed latest version of this MOD. For some weird reason, the permissions weren't showing up in usergroup manager so I uninstalled the MOD (losing my guest data in the process :() then reinstalled and it worked.

At least it kept my "most guests" record. :) Great job Paul.

Im not an html/css person - I just about manage to get things working - I find the vastly over complicated vb4 stylevar system almost impossible to follow, trying to work out which one of 500+ to use, and then it might change in the next version.

However, if these work then 'll keep this post in mind for future updates. :)

Installed, along with all of Paul's mods... great stuff.... really enhances vBulletin usage IMHO ... :)

Anyway, we have a problem with all of his mods with our new vb4 style and I didn't know if anyone here could help us out....

All the text is "white" on a "white background" and as you can see from the pic, it can't be viewed. Well, it can be if one takes their mouse and click scans over it causing it to highlight. :D

So, can anyone tell us where to look to change whatever variable it is that will make this text black?

Unfortunately, I'm an old veteran who doesn't know where to look for this. I've become pretty good at installing add-ons (yours are really easy and make me look compotent .. :D ), but this CSS stuff I'm even sure where to look.

I thought one of the guys here might be able to help me do that on all of your modes. Once I've done one, I can probably do the rest. I think it's got something to do with arco's post above, but I haven't been able to locate that file or where to edit it. :o

That got me looking in the right area and I spent the afternoon getting an education in CSS ... :D

Mimicking arco's approach, I managed to modify all the "custom_" templates associated with all your mods and have fixed the color issues in each of them to work with our style.

Been using your vB3.x version a while now and it works quite well, but I'm currently doing a test run for our vB4 + vBA migration and for some reason 'track guest visits' is not showing up on FORUMHOME, not even with the unmodified default skin.
Both 'master enable' and 'enable display' are set to yes, and to prevent old vB3 stuff from interfering I've set 'overwrite' to yes when importing the product xml. What could cause this?

Yesterday, I started getting Vbulletin errors, once I get them, the site goes dead and the server people have to repair the database. After they fixed it, it was OK for a few hours, and then I woke up today to several thousand emails telling me of errors again.

Not sure why you have posted in this thread ? That error means your User table has crashed and needs to be repaired. It has no connection to the Guest Tracking mod. :)

But I face some problems with it. My vBulletin version is 4.0.8 suite.

1. Although my forum has visitors this mod shows all the time that ''No guests have visited the forum today''.

I myself visited the forum as a guest and still shows the same message that no guests visited the forum. If needed I can provide screenshot.

2. When the display collapse option is set to <YES> from the control panel the mod does not work at all. When I click on the arrow for the mod to get expanded no info are shown.... This does not happen if the display collapse option is set to ''no''.

The same problem happens to me with another mod called ''Member visit tracking'' of the same Coder.

I looked tonight with the access you gave me.

1. This seems to be working fine - however, your forum is closed, so it cannot have any guests atm.

2. This is being broken by another modification you have installed - Animation Effects (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=233425) I have left that disabled.

The snow effect is slowing it down, but not actually breaking anything.

Sounds rather like you have a mysql issue. There is nothing special about those tables.

If your mysql is working well then it wont have much effect, its all indexed.

However, have you got the auto clean-up disabled ?

Unless you are using the data for something specific then you dont need to keep more than a couple of days worth.

I suspect your bitfields may not have got rebuilt - that can happen if you import the product before you upload the bitfield files. Try simply importing the product file again.

I'm missing something on the install. I uninstalled the old product. (vB 3.86 version) Removed the older ".trg" uploaded new one. Imported new product.

The feature displayed for a while then disappeared. I reinstalled everything and can't get it back.

Yep, thats the correct file.

If you actually uninstalled the old one before installing the new one then you will need to redo all the usergroup permissions, as they will have been zapped.

Updated due to the removal of the old collapse images in 4.1.11 - the replacement images are actually available in 4.1.8, 4.1.9 & 4.1.10 so you can update to the new version even if you havent upgraded from them to 4.1.11 yet. vBulletin versions prior to 4.1.8 are not supported by the current version (for 4.1.0 to 4.1.7 you can use the file prefixed with 417). vBulletin 4.0.x is not supported at all and no version is available to download.

That picture is neither the footer or the navbar, its the What's Going On (WGO) area of the forumhome page.

Can you please assist - my developer team has installed this mod but in the stats info page where ever you see 'Do = ajax', and you click on the 'ajax' bit, it always takes you to a dead page which says '{"error":"Invalid Instance: 0"}'

If I remember correctly (its a long time since I wrote this) there is a scripts exception list that you could just add 'ajax' to. Note that will only stop new logging of that script, not any that already exist.

I temporarily added the expanded WS spiders-vbulletin.xml file (https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php/352664-WS-Spiders-List-%28for-updated-vBulletin-quot-spiders_vbulletin-xml-quot-files%29/) to two of the forums I admin to see which ones were visiting. I didn't want to see the long list on "View Online GuestsTotal guests that have visited the forum" forever, so I later re-uploaded the standard vBulletin file.

That worked fine on one of the forums. However, the other is still showing the expanded list after several days, in spite of the fact that I have reuploaded the standard spider-vBulletin.xml file at least three times.

I am baffled. Any hints as to why this is happening?

If it makes a difference, the one that is working correctlly is a 4.2.0 Suite. The one that is not is 4.2.0 Forum Only.

My apologies, I have just realised that you meant in Usergroups Menu, I checked and yes it was set to "yes", reset it to "no", saved, then went back and set it to "yes" again.......now working, thank you very much, extremely useful mod for our forum.

Me too, we are having various problems at the minute, main one being image/doc attachments. Upload an image/doc, it will open once and then when trying to open it a second time throws up the error "The image www........etc cannot be displayed because it contains errors"

Trying to search on here at the moment to find a solution, unless you can point me in the direction of a relevant thread :D

When I switch on Innodb for this table, it is better but still not good.

After installing this, I cannot see the guest activity on "who is online" page. How to fix it please.

I've just been playing with the latest release on VB 4.2.0 Pl2 and I notice that I sometimes get double entries, witht he same time stamps. After a little playing I think I've found that if a guest double-clicks a thread or forum it appears twice in the log. Anyone else seeing this?

Another thought, now that VB 4 has the new Navigation Manager we can incorporate things like static pages into our websites and link to them via a tab on the Navbar. Very useful if you have info that doesn't change very much and that does not need to be in the main database.

Is there anyway of tracking guests who click on these custom tabs?

Hi Paul,

thanks for the response. I've just used BirdOprey5's Iframer mod to make this static page thing a lot prettier and following your last post I decided to check to see how Guest Manager dealt with this.

When I click through to 'List of Guests' page on my test rig I can see one visitor with 19 logged visits and (because the last page I visited as a guest was the Iframer configured static web-page) the 'Visit Area' shows Iframer with No Data in the 'Visit Information' column. However when I drill down into the 19 visits (on the 'Single Guest Display' page) all it shows is the 'Visit Information' columns and this shows that my last point of contact was 'Viewing Home Page'.

So 'Visit Area' is picking up on the use of Iframer but 'Visit Information' is not. Don't know if any of that is useful to you or not but I, in my sad little way, found it interesting, LOL!

For some reason the track guests mod is white on custom styles. Is there a template that I am missing here? I would like to change the color to the color of the style.
