Ok. Well I made due and just changed the name. :) I did notice that in the editor, you can insert a picture from a url but when you save it, it just shows the link and not the picture. I know there are upload boxes too. That could be confusing for some.

Sorry, this comes from the Editor. Jelsoft, for some reason have code the editor to work 100% only within its native code. If you check other mods too (but not those who are using forums inside forums, but really major modules), you'll see that also the attachement button, even if it appears, it doesn't works.

To prove that something is hidden, try to add bullet list on a post. Viewing the ad later, the fonts and colors are ok, but bullets has disappear. Then just do the same to contact seller. I'm using exactly the same code to save the message. But now, as the message is appearing at native vB files (Inbox) the bullet list appears correctly.

That's the reason that in the past I was using in my mods, my own editor, and seems that I need to bring it back to life.

This is a great Mod by the way! I have been looking for a Classified ads option.

I am having a bit of a problem. It is probably simple.

I correctly installed Micro Classifieds.

Then I set up the options and set up my desired Categories.

But I can not seem to find where I can set the Permissions. I know how to set permissions for any of my Forums and Sub Forums. But I can not find an option to set the permissions for Micro Classifieds.

When I click on the Classifieds button, and I am logged in as the administrator, it just says:

MikeLac, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

Any help would be appreciated! :)

I found it now! :)

It was staring at me the whole time. I just had to edit each Usergroup under the Usergroup manager.

I stepped away from the Computer for awhile. Was getting tired. Had a couple of cups of Coffee and my Wife and myself watched a movie. Then I came back to the Computer and easily changed the Permissions within 2 minutes.

I get a little dopey if I have gone a little while without my Caffeine! Now that I have had my Coffee, I`m smart again! :D

Yes, but be carefull so the FIRST letter to be UNIQUE. Open the file functions.php at microclassifieds/includes/
Find:

function time_duration

Change the names on the left,

$periods = array (
'years' => 31556926,
'Months' => 2629743,
'weeks' => 604800,
'days' => 86400,
'hours' => 3600,
'minutes' => 60,
'seconds' => 1
);

keeping in mind that the first letter must be quique. But you can add "M" and "m" as they count as different.

The same you must do for the function that is just below:

function time_duration_short

This shows the remaining time in short format
Then you need to goto your admincp->microclassifieds options and change the last field Expiration format


Is it possible to insert a Message to the Buyer?
The message is predefinied (at least in this version).

And close the Classified after a buy?
Yes, choose "Mark as Sold" on the right in My Classifieds listing. Actually only when choose this one, then the message to Buyer is going to him.

Great job by the way! My Forum is just about ready for launch. I actually had an Items for Sale Forum that broke down into Sub Forums which were the different categories. It would have been a little awkward to do it that way. After I installed the Micro Classifieds, I just turned that particular Forum Off. I`ll more than likely delete it altogether.

I`ll be looking more into your Pro version!

Nobody knows about my Forum yet. I only have about 3 Members. My promotions will be starting tomorrow. I have already had to ban 2 Users for Spamming my Forum. One user Signed up with 2 Accounts to Spam the same product. I banned the IPs as well. Not sure how they found my Forum. Google has been indexing my Content every day. Maybe they found my site through Google. Spamming a Forum with only 2 registered Users. Spammers are a brilliant bunch, aren't they? :rolleyes:

I have a question about your Pro version. Does it have an advertising option where I could choose to place Adsense ads, banners, or whatever?

I also have this problem when I attempt to buy... Can you tell me what is wrong? I've re-checked that all files were uploaded. Maybe I have tunnel vision at this point. :confused:

It depends on the type of vB editor you've setup for the specific usergroup. If you've setup the Enchanged editor, it will shows that one.

But if you mean real HTML editor, the sad story is that in my early mods I was releasing them with a 3nd party HTML editor, but most users wanted to use the standard vB editor, which especially in vB4 has lot of problems using it in mods. eg even if it keeps the text styling (size, color etc), it dosen't save the bullet lists.

I think it should be 5 days, 3 hours and 56 minutes. Not sure what the first one is, weeks? In anycase, the item is set to expire 01/30/2010 - 22:45pm

Feature request: Have the ability to have a new thread posted in a forum when something is added to the classifieds or the ability to select add a reply to a specific post when something new is added. This would allow everyone to be notified when someone lists something new on the classifieds.

A humble request for a feature on this would to be able to have the option to be able to charge the seller per post or to allow free posts and possibly have it connect via the paypal IPN to notify the mod whether or not the transaction was successful.

I love the concept of this and have lots of great ideas on how to implement it, however the option to set a price per post would be a outstanding feature if you have the time to do it.

I like some of the features of your add-on, though others need a bit of work. I'm interested to know what makes your PRO version worth $100, when I can have this version for free? I'm not being sarcastic, I'm really curious what the difference is, that justifies this cost.

One significant concern I have, is that you seem to have so MUCH going on at once, developing several software products simultaneously, and I'm unsure whether you'll devote the time required to work the kinks out of this one to my satisfaction. I don't mind paying for quality, but I need assurance that the developer is working in my best interest, and actively addressing my concerns.

Couple of questions about the free version:

Is there a way for the admin to disable shipping options and payment options? I'd like to just use this for local ads, without shipping, and want the buyer to pay the seller in person, and leave me out of that process.
Is there a way for the admin to disable the currency/weight/dimensions?
Is there a way to remove seller type, this will only be for individuals not stores.
Is there a way to run an ad indefinately, like for advertising SERVICES, or anything else without an end date? It is annoying seeing an end date at the top of the ad, can this be disabled? (Time restraints make sense with AUCTIONS, but not with regular classified ads. An individual is going to run their ad until they sell their product.) I have no desire to facilitate auctions.

It would be nice if there were a thumbnail or graphic to indicate when there is an attachment. It is easy to miss the test link currently.

I really like the fact that your software is fully integrated with vB, and makes good use of the style and space in the listing (category) interface, as opposed to PhotoPost (http://www.reeftalk.com/classifieds/) currently.

I like PhotoPosts' actual ad display better than yours, because of its simplicity and use of photos, but they have totally dropped the ball on the vB4 transition and list of classified sections looks like a big clunky block of forums (with padding problems). I need to clearly understand what is possible with your software, and what isn't. What I can configure as an admin, and what just "is what it is". I also need to understand how open you are to suggestions from your customers, and whether or not you will customize your product to their liking.

I also am confused about how to purchase your PRO version, and what that includes.

I like some of the features of your add-on, though others need a bit of work. I'm interested to know what makes your PRO version worth $100, when I can have this version for free? I'm not being sarcastic, I'm really curious what the difference is, that justifies this cost.

Nothing in common. The PRO version has at least 20+ additional features, including support for wanted and auction type classifieds. Also the price contents Brand Free something that other companies cost at least $35, don't mentioning PHP Classifieds which costs it $129!!. But what increases the cost is a simple word: SUPPORT.


One significant concern I have, is that you seem to have so MUCH going on at once, developing several software products simultaneously, and I'm unsure whether you'll devote the time required to work the kinks out of this one to my satisfaction. I don't mind paying for quality, but I need assurance that the developer is working in my best interest, and actively addressing my concerns.


Since some days now, I'm not working alone, but with Micheal from vb-hacks.com who will be responsible for supporting my mods and also port the most popular of them to vB3. From the other side, I've prototype my work, so 70% of the files of a new mod, is a 5 min work for a global search and replace of the new filename and database name. If you give a closer look to my code you'll see that I'm always using the same style and name in my code, eg ..._items, .._item_photos, ...._item_files etc etc.



Couple of questions about the free version:

I haven't finished yet my shop. In any case:
$100 is the cost
$10 is the money credits that you'll get for your next order of any product
20 are the points that you're getting. You can use these points to "buy" special mods for my clients only. No more free mods here.
Currently forget the support points. When I'll start using them, the price of microCLASSIFIEDS will drop to around $50 with forum support. If someone needs ticketing support (fasten) the he must buy support points. But as I said, this not currently active.

I don't think we can expect developers to always fully support the free versions as obviously their time has to be prioritized to paying customers. However Maria I think still does an excellent job here considering she has several mods on VB4. If you are looking to ad some sort of classifieds/want ads to your forum I highly recommend this product. Very easy to use and it looks great.

The problem is that there is a big misunderstanding for the real meaning of the word "Support", that's why many times I prefer to say "I'm not giving support", rather to say: "I support it" and later on to become redicolous (I'm too old for accepting this).


Please allow me to use some examples:
Last 10 years I've bought more than 100 commercial scripts (I'm talking in general for PHP). Let's analyze, some "meanings" of Support:
Viart Enterprise (own 2 licenses of it, total $698): Support Center is open: Monday - Friday (7.00am - 5.00pm GMT) . Do you count it as Support?
aMember (3 licenses): Great Every Day Support
Type of Support question. I'll use 2 issues from the same person, a very good client of me, who it's true that stress me a lot, but he is real gentleman:
URGENT!!! Maria, a list (among 50+ different types of lists), dosen't shows the list indexing by newest on the top. Well, do you think that this is an urgent question?
For the same client 2 days ago, I spent the whole day being in contact with him, to correct something which wasn't bug from my code, but rather from his custom modifications, something that nobody supports. But I stand by him, because it was really urgent as he is operating a big classifieds portal with around 350 new Ads a day.
So, if someone says easily "Yes, I'm giving support", most probably is tricking you if he dosen't explain in details, which hours, ...days etc, is giving support, and in which type of issues.
Most of support issues can be reply even by you after using my products for a week. They're so easy. For these type of support I hired Michael, to give me the freedom to work in other fields. But he is good programmer, trusted person, and I'm sure that he'll help me a lot.To make the long story, short. For real problems, I'm here to resolve them, even if I need to stay asleep all the night. But for questions like: "How to increase the space between the blocks", don't expect any reply from me. Straight and honest words. And don't let others tricky with you. On 99% of companies, you never have direct communication with the coder(s).

Nobody, ...or
Specific usergroupsBut from the other side, why most users think that the free versions are for rubishes? It's perfect if you don't need exotic features.

When a new ad is posted or when it has been replied to, does this show in the "whats new or new posts"???

The reason I ask is that I have a lot of traffic through my current classifieds which is basically a forum classifieds (http://www.vwcaddy.com/forumdisplay.php?f=4), nothing else. Some months back I wanted to improve the look and feel on my VB3.8 of the classifieds so I paid for the photopost classifieds, and my members HATED it purely because the ads did not show on "new posts" and the integration was poor :down:

So does this hack show in new posts :up:

Are you saying that the classified posts should show up as a forum post?

I don't think this is a desirable feature as you would be mixing e-commerce with your site content, which could significantly clutter your content search.

The Classifieds is designed to be a separate area of your site, and it has its own search box.

I agree, new classified ads should show under the "What's New" tab. Or at least we should have the option of displaying them. However, I also agree they should not show up as new posts, since they aren't posts.

Did you change the user permissions after installing this mod? You have to go to your AdminCP and change the user permissions to allow your usergroup (ie. admin, moderator, registered) to be able to use microclassifieds.

Go to AdminCP->Usergroups->Usergroup Manager->EditUsergroup ("Go" button on the right to whichever group you want to change permissions for)


Scroll down until you see "MicroClassifieds Permissions" and make sure the permissions are set to "Yes".

I think this should fix your problem.

Did you modify the permissions for Registered Users too?

You have to modify the permissions for each usergroup.

So if you are using the default usergroups, for registered users you'd have to modify usergroup:2 etc.

Did you only change the permissions for admins?

Its the same process I outlined before, just for whichever usergroups you want to allow access.

What step are you confused about?

After you upload the files, right click the file directory and change the file permissions to 777.

It should be noted that with some shared servers you cannot use 777, but must use 755 instead. a security thing.My script needs to use 777 permissions

For scripts that require '0777' directory permissions, we do not allow those permission settings on files or folders. Please try to set the directory to 0755 instead (drwxr-xr-x). This will enable read-execute, but not write access for group and world.
If the script absolutely requires 0777 permissions, please email support@hostgator.com for further solutions.

777 permissions on folders and files is a website security risk, so we do not allow you to have them. Most hosting companies now use suPHP servers, thus 755 will allow PHP to read, write and execute scripts just like 777 does. Because of this, most scripts work when you use 755.

I have it installed this on my test site and it seems to work great and as far as classifieds I really like it.

I have read every post on these 12 pages and have to say I am a little hesitant to buy the "pro version" due to the seeming lack of attention in this "free" or one might even argue "promotional" version from the development team. I am going to ask a question hopeing that the developers pick up on it, if even just to tell me it's in the pro version.

So here is a question for you, hopefully you guys as a community can help me.

Just set priority 1 to the usergroup that you want to promote, and set priority 2 (or higher) to other usergroups.

Thank you for your support and the translation. Just be carefull, that you've placed 2 times "m" (meses, minutos) so you'll get wrong results. Change one of them to "M".

Have you working it in other mods or parts of vB? I'm using normal vB functions to clean input values, and in this case, I'm cleaning it as Numeric. So, it depends on vBs core files how they treat the numeric values. But if it works in another part of vB, I'll check it to find out why acts such a way.Maria

Did anyone work out how to get rid of the stupid "Expires Soon" box in the bottom left corner, it simply doesn't work at all. It makes this MOD all but useless if you want a professional looking site.

This is a great MOD but needs fixing to be presentable. I have seen others on here talking about this box and I have not seen any answers.

I would totally buy the PRO version of this MOD for it's extra functions like the auction option and such but there is no way I am pulling the trigger on that if this one doesn't work, that just makes no sence.

Can anyone help? This is kind of a big deal for me.

Yeah, it's there. Just like the screenie that someone posted in this thread showing it. I also went to the MicroHellas site and looked and the screenie on there for their paid product and it even shows it in their screenie all screwed up.

There is no way I am buying the paid for version with MAJOR things like that still wrong with it.

I really really want to support Maria with this product and buy the full version as I love the concept but the implementation seems to be a little off.

Cumon Maria, help get this issue fixed, I don't want free software, I want software that really works well. You have the makings of a great addon, I think one of the best, it just needs to be finished.

Well, now that you made me look, it's even worse. Sort of. My Random Ads and Newest Ads both don't have any links or ad text. Just broken image icons and posting date.

No question this isn't a finished, polished product. But there are only two classifieds solutions for vb, so it's not like we have a lot of choice. She is still working on it, slowly. Perhaps if there are more sales she would dedicate more time to it.

For some reason it is just using the stylevar options from vBulletin. Here I have lots of custom css in the additional.css file. Is there a way to make the mod work with this .css files?

Anyone ever get the additional css to work with this mod? I hate that it doesn't follow my sites look (much of which I use the additional.css file to style.
