What this is and does

Version 3.0.2-PL1 uploaded 15th March 2010.

LDM is a general-purpose tool for managing libraries of links and files, and handling uploads and downloads in a flexible way, while tracking and controlling user access. It also has a range of integrated media players and a large library of 'plugin' extras. It has been developed steadily since the release of vb 3.0 some six years ago, based on extensive feedback from users at vb.org.

I think the 3.0.x releases have been tested enough and are no longer considered beta. However, I still want feedback on features that do not work at all or do not work properly.

Translations in Spanish, French, Chinese, German and Dutch are available as phrase files and are more or less complete.

Installation and Usage Explained in the on-line Wiki (http://www.eirma.org/wikis/index.php/Links_and_Downloads_Manager), with a brief explanation in the file instructions.txt in the release zip.

The installer will either create a new LDM database, or recognise that you already have an earlier version installed and update it.

Unlike earlier versions of LDM, this version automatically adds a link to the product on the main vb navbar.

Please do not blindly install on a live forum without being sure that you have tested it adequately. Use carefully and always backup your database before upgrading. Post reports of problems and suggestions for enhancements in this thread. You can find extensive discussion of this mod in the VB3.7 mods and VB3.8 mods sections.

Staff Note: Sadly, Andrew D, the developer of the Links and Downloads Manager has passed away after a long period of illness.

I havent totally tested it yet. But it installed just fine and seems to be working on vb4 cms pl1. I will report here later.

Excellent work!

FYI: When clicking on settings under Links and Downloads, in OPERA the formatting is messed up. In Firfox it is fine.

Installed, but it tells me that I do not have permission to access LDM. And yes, I am superadmin in config.php.

Alright, fixed. We used to have a non-standard-group for the project leaders. And I forgot to set the additional usergroup.

Language Italian??

No-one has ever prepared an Italian translation as far as I know. The languages versions that I have been distributing (all in reasonably good condition) are French, Chinese, German, Dutch and Spanish.

I will gladly include other languages if submitted, but be aware that it is a fairly substantial piece work to make a translation - about 1,000 phrases.

I try to avoid answering this question, because it may trigger emotional replies :). Take a look at the wiki and see if the features are what you want/need.

I changed the file size in attachment manager...
But in LDM is still tells me that the file size allowed is 8M.

I have refreshed everything.

See pics attached. Can you show me how to fix it?

I am currently using a 2nd vbulletin license. i am using one for a database and now i want to switch to Downloads Manager .
Right now there are running 2 vbulletins on my server. I hope to get a better performance, because i wnat to use only one vbulletin on my server in the future.
thre are about 80 gigabyte in my current database and i am not going to upload all the files again.
I am looing for a chance to link them and put them into Links and Downloads Manager directly and erase the old database from my server later.
I am thinking about to set a link to the www files instead of the files to the local disc.
There is no registration nessesary to load the files, so a direct link won`t be a problem.
Now my question.....
Do i have a chance to realise my thinking or do i have to disclaim my plans on Links and Downloads Manager and still have to work with 2 vbulletins???

You are probably hitting the limits imposed by your server's php.ini settings. Take a look at any of the ldm admin pages (left column down towards the bottom) or the vb admin main page, which includes a summary of main server settings. The values of the php settings post_max_size and upload_max_filesize place absolute limits on the maximum upload, and in your case one or both is probably set to 8M. Unless you fully control your server, these are not settings you can override - you need to ask your server admin. post_max_size needs to be bigger than upload_max_filesize to avoid strange errors within php.

A second point, in case you are concerned - your thumbnails show that all filetypes can be up to 8M - this only applies to admins. Other users will be limited by the individual filesizes given on the vb admin/attachments page, provided they are less than the php.ini controls.

If I understand correctly, you want to set up LDM to access files which are stored on a different part of the server filesystem than used by vb. This is perfectly possible, and is controlled by the LDM setings local_file_root and local_file_root_prefix, which you find under the 'security' section of the LDM settings.

Suppose all your files are held in directory /mydir/myfiles. Then, you would set local_file_root to 'yes' and local_file_root_prefix to /mydir/myfiles. When creating entries to the individual filenames, e.g. /mydir/myfiles/dir1/file1.zip, you would specify them in LDM as dir1/file1.zip.

Noted, and fixed for next upload.

Regarding your earlier comment on the size of the ldm admin/settings page - there have been different reactions from people over the years. It is inevitable that there are many control settings, so one tries to keep these grouped sensibly. The main vb admin /options page gives you the option of seeing all settings at once, or just a subgroup. I find that I never use the 'subgroup' option as I can't recall which group controls what I'm looking for. So I set up LDM to always show all groups. Maybe it would be better to have an intermediate page which acts as the vb/admin/options page.

Could you post a screenshot of the table alignment problem you mentioned. Thanks.

yes Andrew I do have that limit.

but I thought if I upload the file via ftp and then use a pointer to it it would work.

Okay no biggie.

I have another question but that will be another post. :) after I get the graphics of it.

If you have set the LDM/admin setting "local_file_root" to 'no', then uploaded files are stored in subdirectories within your webroot, underneath the directory specified as "upload_dir".

Ditto, if "local_file_root" is set to 'yes', then they are in directories underneath the file system root directory specified as "local_file_prefix".

FYI

can_send_tofriend perm is enabled for admins, and a few others. but when clicking send to friend when playing an mp3 I get the following:

admin, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

BUT the email does go through anyway .

So its working ..but just goes to a page with that error.

( I hope you wont mind me flooding this with my messages but trying to help you with testing ;))

On my live site the teamuploads and thumbs is under /forum/teamuploads and /forum/thumbs

The comments sections is drastically different.

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2009/12/10.jpg

It expands the comments below everything, and shows 4 comments. This takes up a lot of space. Can you set it so that it doesn't expand like this?

In the admin area, you have bullet points for each category

Settings
File management
Linkbits/Catbits
Mirror Sites
Media Players

etc.

I'm old. Trying to get the mouse directly over those small bullet points isn't as easy for me anymore ;) Can the link be extended out to the word too?

This isn't an error - it's a warning. When your server has a php configuration file that sets a value for <em>open_basedir</em>, this restricts the parts of the filesystem that *any* script can access. It is quite possible to set <em>open_basedir</em> and LDM's settings such as <em>file_root_prefix</em> to be incompatible, hence the warning.

I have none of the files in teamuploads and only 1/4 of the thumbs but when I go to the download manager, all the thumbs are there and I can download the zip files.

The LDM code does not currently update its database records to change all the pointers for existing uploads and thumbs from the previous directory to the new directory. I can probably send you a straighforward bit of sql to use with, e.g., phpmyadmin, to make the update, and will add this problem to the 'to do' list.

The comments sections is drastically different.

There are now (actually for some time in vb 3 also) two ways of accessing the comments system, one using the 'dropdown' method that you are probably used to, and the second using an extended 'inline' feature that you are observing. You can choose which you want on the admin/settings page. I think you've enabled them both to show simultaneously.

In the admin area, you have bullet points for each category

Settings
File management
Linkbits/Catbits

Probably, you ask so nicely :):)

This is a matter of caching certain bits of the display in order to gain speed. It is one of those things which gets tuned as one goes along, and was not a priority for this beta release. There is however a 'display bit caching' setting on the admin/settings page which is already partially functional.

I'm not overly experienced with the server side of things; but if we have had LDM running okay in the past, is this something that I need to worry about?

The LDM code does not currently update its database records to change all the pointers for existing uploads and thumbs from the previous directory to the new directory. I can probably send you a straighforward bit of sql to use with, e.g., phpmyadmin, to make the update, and will add this problem to the 'to do' list.

No worries on sending the code. I just wanted to make sure that it wasn't a bug. Once we go live everything will be where it's suppose to be :)

I turned on the "bit_cache_active" and it did seem to load faster. Not sure if it's my imagination or not ;)

I'll be doing more testing... we won't be going live until they get the CMS functioning better, but we are very excited about all the changes :)

Thank you for this wonderful mod, one of the most important mods actually. I tried to install it on my test board, but it doesn't seem to complete the installation. May be a problem with the time taken to upload the xml product file.

Try uploading the product file (product-eirma_ldm.xml) into your includes/xml directory, then tell vb to install that file, instead of doing the upload.

Heyas Andrew!

Great Job as always on this mod. INSTALLED!!!

Quick question, I updated to this version from v2.3.0 on my vB3.8.4 board. I noticed that it created a navbar tab link "Links/Downloads". I was wondering is there a setting I over look that will allow me to remove the tab at least for now? If not in the settings of LDM, do you think you can advise me on another suggestion as to removing the tab? I only need to remove it for a bit since the wife and I are still working on the skin and setting up a better listing of our tab links.

Thanks!!! :D

Sure - go to vb/admin/products and plugins/plugin manager and disable the plugin Links and Downloads Manager - Add LDM to main vBulletin menu. That will hide the tab except when you are already inside LDM.

I have re-opened my site if you still want to check out the LDM. --> LINK (http://www.dunedain-hq.com)
Just click on the "Video Gallery" tab on the navbar.

I did notice one syntax error that only pop up when I first visit my LDM but it goes by so quickly that I don't get a chance to see the full error message. My guess it's one of the extras acting weird. It only happens if I clear out my cookies in my browser (Firefox), and re-visit my LDM page. I'll try to get a screenshot of it and post it.

Asides from that it works great. Just as it did on my vB 3.8.4 board :).

I think the error is in the block_context_menu plugin. It can be fixed by editing the plugin Links and Downloads Manager - Block right mouse button context menu attached to the hook ldm_maindisplay_begin and adding a line at the end containing just the character } (closing brace)

Thanks for all of your hard work. I don't mean to complain but we have noticed that, with certain custom themes, the LDM becomes unreadable. Is there a way to fix this? It doesn't seem like LDM is inheriting the site theme.

You're correct - the 3.0.0 beta release is not yet integrated with the new vb styling features. I am working through the problems - if you can point me at pages that don't look right (e.g. by PM), I'll give this attention.

I am still working on my database to integrade it complete in LDM.
Like I said that before I want to erase my old database and run only LDM.
My files don´t need to be link, the links has to be loaded to the files in LDM directly, so that there will be no connection to my old database.
I have done this….

Upload_dir:/uploads “directory created and writable”
Local_file_root: “is on yes”
Local_file_root_prefix: /var/customers/webs/DEB/vb4/LDM “directory created and writable”
After activating local_file_root I get a note when I want to create a download(see attachment)
Local_file_root_prefix: {vb:raw links_defaults.local_file_root_prefix
Local_file_root -> file system
Do I have to format the link especially to load the file in LDM or does this message means I have done something wrong?

__________________________________________________ ______________________________ ________________

local_file_root_prefix: {vb:raw links_defaults.local_file_root_prefix
local_file_root -> file system
Muss ich den Link hier speziell Formatieren, damit das File in LDM geladen wird oder zeigt mir diese Meldung, das ich etwas falsch gemacht habe.

That mesage is my mistake. It should be giving you the name of the root prefix directory. I've missed a character out of one of the templates. Thanks for letting me know.

This mod is great, thanks AndrewD !!

I'm using a dark style designed by Cableguy69 and the catagories in the download section are a bit light, but I'm sure this can be fixed somehow.

I think an image can say more the words, so a screenshot has been attached.

Thanks again AndrewD, my forum users are very happy with this mod.

Taking another look at your screenshot, I realise that what you are trying to do is move vbulletin 'attachments' into LDM. This is not a feature that is currently available. I think you will have to manually download the files from vb/forums, then re-uplod them into LDM.

It could be a good feature, but there has not been any particular demand for it so far.

I've added release 3.0.1 plus translations (full Spanish, almost full German, Chinese, French, Dutch) to the header post.

This aims to fix the reported problems, including substantial improvements to the integration with the new vBulletin styling system, and some work on speed/efficiency of page generation.

As usual, will appreciate your reports on its usability/any problems.

Update went fine for me.

Sooo Glad you have it looking like the old 3.8.x's version again. ( Love the drop down description ! )

I had noticed this yesterday or the day before, but the RSS link is wrong.
it's showing http://www.linuxtuts.net/%7Bvb:raw%20LDM_catinfo.rss_feed%5D.
Darn, this editor isn't letting me paste the correct link here at vb.org....( /{vb:raw LDM_catinfo.rss_feed] ) There that's it..... :)

Thanks for the help and again for a super Mod.

Thanks,

EDIT:

Ok, I tried overwritting the rss2 plugin and then I get this error when trying to visit Links/Download page.

Fatal error: [] operator not supported for strings in /var/www/vhosts/linuxtuts.net/httpdocs/includes/local_links_main_links.php(668) : eval()'d code on line 196

or
"Fatal error: [] operator not supported for strings in /var/www/vhosts/mydomain.com/httpdocs/includes/local_links_main_links.php(668) : eval()'d code on line 196"

Already tried deleting it, and that brought back everything, but when I uploaded the plugin, it did the same thing.

Confirmed.

There is a key piece of code at the very centre of LDM, which builds the main entry displays. It has become horribly complex and I made a change ;) Sorry - will have it fixed today, I hope.

I have had great difficulties with languages, because the vbulletin infrastructure is (by default) only partly set up to deal with these. I am able to install all language versions correctly on my test vb 4.0 system, but I have had to make a small change to one of the vb files to accept this. I will provide instructions in the translations directory when I update the 3.0.1 LDM release, which should be later today.

Hi, Thanks for the update as this is mine main mod on my site and I would not upgrade to 4 unless I can get it to work. Good work on a great mod.

I have a problem though....

I create a test site with a fresh install of both vb and LDM and it works fine. However I've now upgrade the site and for some reason the images still show the old versions and some are missing. i think the template/style has not updated.

I've redownload from here, reupload all fine and reran the install to no effect. Any Ideas?

Yes, you need to change the setting "file_icons_dir" on the LDM admin/settings page. The new icons are stored in images/ldm-silk-icons/. There is an alternative set of icons available in the release zip in extras/icon-sets/ldm-ox-icons. These are somewhat larger than the silk icons but you may prefer them, depending on the rest of your style (see attachments - the first shows the ox icons, the second, the silk icons). To use them, upload into images/ldm-ox-icons and set file_icons_dir accordingly.

Sorry for any confusion here - new installations pick up the new icon directory automatically but upgraded forums have to be set manually.

Excellent site.

Can you point me in the right direction to how I can get that download button. Right now I have some files up there, clicking on them opens then in a new tab but I would like to have a download button like yours. :)

Thanks.

Have you added the filetypes you want to download to the vbulletin attachments table?

If you don't do this, LDM assumes the entries are 'links' (to open in a new window). See the wiki.

This was done using the patch_forumhome 'extra' which is still available and still works. However, it does not look quite right in the new forumhome layout, so I will tidy it up in the next release,

I also would like to say that the 'extra' patch_forumhome DOES in fact work as intended. However, the patch-forumhome-newlinks and the patch-forumhome-recententries has caused SQL errors. Sorry I didn't take a screenshot of the error :( but I will once I finish the rest of my settings so AndrewD can take a look at them later.

So, on that note, if anyone DOES attempt to use either of those plugins receives a database error, just go back and remove those plugins.

These plugins have been tested on my test & live sites are working as intended... keep in mind, these are only the 'extra's I use on my site:
Tested on latest versions of I.E. 8, Firefox & Safari
add-mimetypes
add-page-information

A quick test of vb4.0.1 revealed a change in the behaviour of one of its core functions, which has the effect of breaking the display of cached thumbnails in LDM in some circumstances.

If you are hit by this problem, there is a temporary fix:

a) go to ldm/admin/settings
b) set thumbs_dir to blank
c) in the left column, find the line 'thumbnail images' and click on the link.

Permanent fix will be provided in ldm 3.0.2

Hi Andrew,
We just upgraded our site to 4.0.1. We have the latest version of the download module.

It works fine with Firefox , however, when we use IE or Chrome, we get a database error. You can view this here (http://www.gottapixel.net/forum/local_links.php).

I'm reading that some gals are having issues with 3.5.7 of Firefox as well.

One further update.. this is not happening to admin. Only members.

Figured it out. Those who can view hidden files don't get the error. Those who can't get the database error. I'm going to take out all the hidden files for now, but can you look into this? :)

Looking at the set up form.. it seems to be missing the ability to schedule as well.

My... this vB CMS is a mess, in the end I guess I won't make a lot of use of it, and it sabotages vbAdvanced, if you install vbA, then the forum sidebar is disabled aoutomatically, even if the vBCMS is active >.>

Of course, LDM's modules for the new vBA 4 Beta are broken u.u

How can I change the location of the navbar link. I edited both of the "add LDM to main vBulletin menu" plugins and changed the template_hook to middle instead of right. That works fine on the forums and every other page but once I click on the links / download section the location of that tab in the navbar moves to the end again while I am in that section. Then once I go back to a page outside of LDM everything is fine again.

I'm sure I missed a template_hook call somewhere but can't find where?

Thanks!

Issues with the 4.0.1 upgrade of vB and your software.

We are no longer able to upload just one file at a time. When you click add entry, it gives us 10 spots to fill out.

We are no longer able to upload a zip file. There is no browse button.

We are no longer able to upload a jpg file. There is no browse button.

We are no longer able to change a scheduled product to today's date instead.

Just installed this... holy hell... this is easily the most comprehensive mod I've seen for vB. Works flawlessly and you can pretty much change anything. The number of options can be a bit daunting at first, but... damn you can do anything you want.

I've tried some of the other products that are supposed to do this, but they are so far behind it's not possible for me to express it.

Thank you for writing and releasing this... very cool stuff!

I've this problem: every time that an user downloads a file the thumbnails disappear!

The only solution at the moment is to enter in the admin section and:

a) go to ldm/admin/settings
b) set thumbs_dir to blank
c) in the left column, find the line 'thumbnail images' and click on the link.

After all this the thumbnails appear again.
How can I do to fix the problem without going to ldm/admin/settings???

Anyone know how to change the location of the navbar link from the right to the middle? :confused:

You have to make changes in three places:

a) to control the location while in LDM - edit includes/local_links_include.php, find function ldm_fetch_navbar_template() and edit the template_hook assignment;

b) ditto to control the location while in other parts of vbulletin - go to the vb/admincp/products and plugins and edit the plugin "Links and Downloads Manager - Add LDM to main vBulletin menu" attached to the process_templates_complete hook, and make the same change

c) ditto to control the location while in error messages, as per b) but edit the plugin attached to the error_nopermission hook.

I'll see if there's a better way to specify this as a single configuration setting.

Andrew, I posted earlier, but am posting again.

We are having issues with the install on our live forum. In the past we had the ability to pick how many uploads we wanted to at one time, we no longer have that. If we set it to 10 in admin, it gives us a form with 10 entries, instead of before where it asked us "how many do you want".

We no longer have browse buttons for .zip or .jpg files. We have to turn on off site linking and uploaded to the server then provide the URL manually. I installed the lastest version on a fresh install of vB4, and it too didn't have this functionality. What has changed and what do I need to change to get it working again?

We no longer have the ability to schedule the file to a future date. The date is hard coded and there is no way to change it.

I'd be happy to provide a test account to log in if you need it. Thanks!

Ophelia, sorry for the lack of response - as I've posted above, we're currently in the middle of a house/country move and have only a limited internet connection for the time being (via mobile telephone, pre-3G).

Looking at your issues:
a) the lack of a dialogue box for 'add multiple entries' was a temporary fix in LDM 3.0.0 and .1, while I figured out how to get the box to appear correctly in the css-oriented approach used by vb for the navbar. I've now got that figured out and the old behaviour will return in 3.0.2, which is close to being ready to launch.

b) The scheduling/date problem was caused by a bug in the new LDM template code and will be fixed in 3.0.2.

c) I'm confused by your .zip/.jpg report, which is presumably a consequence of the set of options you have selected. I will need to look at your site to get to the bottom of this. Please send a PM.

This is not currently an option. However, you can group entries in a single category into different subgroups, by using different 'display orders' (all the entries with display order 1 will be grouped together, then all with 2, etc. You can then give the subgroup titles by using the "cat_entry_dseq_titles" LDM admin setting.

I took a look at your site. Your problem is caused by a change in the behaviour of one of the standard vbulletin php functions in the latest release. I will provide a fix in LDM 3.0.2. In the meantime, you can work round the problem by leaving the LDM admin setting 'thumbs_dir' blank.

Sorry, I was probably being a bit obscure.

Take a look at LDM/admin/settings, at the file_icons_dir setting. The default in this version of LDM should be images/ldm-silk-icons/, which is not the same as with the previous version. Also check that this directory contains about 63 icons - if not, upload them from the release file.

I have no formal plans, but I suspect this is the list of priorities:

a) Get LDM working with its current functionality with VB4. So far, this seems mainly a matter of dealing with all the templates and template calls.

b) Tidy things up so that LDM follows (e.g.) the new css practices and stylevars

c) Integrate with the CMS, including widgets to replicate the previous vbadvanced addons

I'm not sure about vbadvanced support yet. Will have to see what is forthcoming.

d) Only then will I start thinking about new features/suggestions

With Integration with the CMS, do you mean making LDM a CMS content type?

Will there be an update to the 4.0.2? The templates are in after the update no longer.

AndrewD
02-18-2010, 11:41 AM
There's been a change in the latest version of vb, 4.0.2, which breaks the layout of LDM pages. This will be corrected for in the forthcoming new release of LDM (3.0.2) which I will get out just as soon as I've tested it properly with vb 4.0.2. In the meantime, fixing the layout problem involves simple edits to these templates:

a) links_header
b) links_iframed
c) links_play_naked
d) links_play_standalone

In each case, you need to find *all* occurrences of {vb:var vbcsspath} and replace this by {vb:raw vbcsspath}, i.e. change vb:var to vb:raw

I've uploaded LDM 3.0.2, which fixes a number of bugs (including the problem created by vb 4.0.2) and adds some new features:

+ vbCMS

vbCMS modules provided, equivalent to those for forumhome and LDM sidebar (hot/new/random, thumb/text)

+ Admin/bandwidth
Extended the bandwidth controls to allow admins to specify per-usergroup maximum transfer rates for downloads

+ Extras
Patch to forumbit construction has become an 'extra' because of need for template edit in vb4
New 'admin-chart-logjumps' extra adds graphics to hits analysis

+ Bug fixes
Fixed patch-forumhome-newlinks extra
Fixed patch-forumhome-recententries extra
Fixed sql error with special searches when 'can_view_hidden/expiry days' apply
Fixed vanishing images (workaround for change in vb code)
Fixed subcategory indenting in catbits

+ Other
Moved 'extras' directory up a level and out of 'release'
More minor tweaks to templates
Tweaks to php code to speed page rendering
Fixed code to work correctly with vb 4.0.2

I've also made the location of the Links/Download menu item a configurable option (but you have to edit the file includes/local_links_defns.php to change this option).

If there are no serious problems reported in the next week, we'll take this mod out of Beta status.

Andrew, we have updated french xml translations files to 3.0.1.

Sorry, i forgot to send you :-(

Btw, i'm waiting for 3.0.2 link for updating again.. (at this moment, only 3.0.1 and translation files are available)

Thanks - and sorry - we just overlapped with each other.

I just installed the new version, it's working very well, thanks!

I do have one problem though.

I cleared out the display of the navbar link as I have a manual link to it through a submenu. However, when doing this, it clears out the subnav links as well, so there's no way to add new files, get to the admin, etc.

All I wanted to do was remove the primary navbar link to save some space there, but keep the subnav. Is this possible?

Testing locally, upgraded to 4.0.2, then uploaded the new files and imported the product. Everything seems fine.

I did configure my init and defns the link is ok in the navbar, clicked on it and then got this error.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function ldmstandard_error() in D:\local\website\mysite\links.php on line 255

I use links.php instead of local_links.php

What did i do wrong? :(

This is to warn you that your system admin has disabled some or all or the following php functions: fread, fpassthru, fopen, fclose: in your php.ini (the php configuration file). These functions are needed to access files on the local server.

Have you recently changed host?

I'm not sure how easy this is to do - the vbulletin infrastructure keeps the navbar link and its submenus together.

One option would be to display the navbar entry only when inside LDM (I assume you've got a way to get into LDM in the first place). If this would suit you, I'll post an explanation.

Hosting provider told me there is nothing changed...., will install a 4.0.1 forum with LDM to check if that is working. I'm pretty sure the LDM 3.0.1 was working with 4.0.2, only the style was terrible, that was fixed with LDM 3.0.2

So I'm lost and the only way to check is to install a test forum to see were it goes wrong.

Hi AndrewD,

Hereby a screenshot from the disable_functions in the vb admincp/maintenance/view php info.

I'm at something of a loss, because the code in question looks very straightforward. (I'm also a bit irritated :) because this check on disable_functions was added to help give other people a more helpful warning when their system configuration blocked access to LDM.)

It would help me greatly to sort this out if I can have full vb admin access to one/both of your sites. If you agree, pls send me a PM.

Yes, that would be great. Thank you for your help!

Go to vb/admincp/products and plugins/plugin manager

Edit the "Links and Downloads Manager - Add LDM to main vBulletin menu" plugin attached to the "process_templates_complete" hook.

The standard code looks as follows:

require_once(DIR . '/includes/local_links_defns.php');

if (LDM_NAVBAR_LOCATION) {

if (defined('THIS_SCRIPT') and
(
THIS_SCRIPT == LDM_LINKS_SCRIPT or THIS_SCRIPT == 'local_links'
or THIS_SCRIPT == LDM_ACTION_SCRIPT or THIS_SCRIPT == 'local_links_actions'
or THIS_SCRIPT == LDM_ADMIN_SCRIPT or THIS_SCRIPT == 'local_links_admin'
or THIS_SCRIPT == LDM_SEARCH_SCRIPT or THIS_SCRIPT == 'local_links_search'
)
) {
// Highlight ldm tab when in LDM - LDM code will create the actual tab and navbar
$vbulletin->options['selectednavtab'] = 'ldm';
}
else {
// Create the tab, no navbar needed
$templater = vB_Template::create('links_navbar');
$templater->quickRegister(array(
'ldm_links_script'=>LDM_LINKS_SCRIPT,
));
$template_hook[LDM_NAVBAR_LOCATION] .= $templater->render();
}

}

Just add comment signs (//) to five lines as follows:

require_once(DIR . '/includes/local_links_defns.php');

if (LDM_NAVBAR_LOCATION) {

if (defined('THIS_SCRIPT') and
(
THIS_SCRIPT == LDM_LINKS_SCRIPT or THIS_SCRIPT == 'local_links'
or THIS_SCRIPT == LDM_ACTION_SCRIPT or THIS_SCRIPT == 'local_links_actions'
or THIS_SCRIPT == LDM_ADMIN_SCRIPT or THIS_SCRIPT == 'local_links_admin'
or THIS_SCRIPT == LDM_SEARCH_SCRIPT or THIS_SCRIPT == 'local_links_search'
)
) {
// Highlight ldm tab when in LDM - LDM code will create the actual tab and navbar
$vbulletin->options['selectednavtab'] = 'ldm';
}
else {
// Create the tab, no navbar needed
// $templater = vB_Template::create('links_navbar');
// $templater->quickRegister(array(
// 'ldm_links_script'=>LDM_LINKS_SCRIPT,
// ));
// $template_hook[LDM_NAVBAR_LOCATION] .= $templater->render();
}

}

I will try to provide a more 'friendly' way to achieve this effect in a later release. For the time being, keep in mind that you will have to re-apply the edits each time you upgrade LDM.

Hello Andrew, this looks like a great plugin. I have a question for you if you dont mind.
Let me first say what I'm trying to accomplish. I have a large forum of musicians. They all currently upload their songs/compositions inside of post/thread. Even though its not an ideal solution but at least people can search for them.

The question I have is this, is it possible to setup your mod in a way where you can define Genres as categories and then have people upload their songs/compositions and also include the artist name? I've been searching for something like this for quite some time but can't really find anything that suites my need. Or is there a plugin that allows to do a Thread/Post upload and also provide more details about the file being uploaded, like artist, generes etc?

Thank you very much for you time.

I think this would do what you want - as you say, you would set up the genres as categories, you would give authorised users the right to upload into these categories, and they would create entries which used the title and description fields to hold the track name and brief description. The entries are automatically tagged with the user name submitting them. You can then, if you want, create 'additional attribute' fields to hold standardised information like song length, etc. If you wanted to have the artist name as one of these fields, that is possible.

Happy to help you get started if you have problems.

So far, I can't reproduce this, but I have seen a related problem which is connected with the text edit boxes. If you have the full "Standard + WYSIWYG Controls" enabled (vb/admincp/Message Posting Interface Options), then text that is entered in the edit box sometimes does not get picked up correctly by LDM, whereas everything works ok in Standard mode.

I will try to get to the bottom of this.

I couple months ago I moved my vB sites into a VPS. I've realized I'm having memory issues, lately it's been a little problem, so I start checking and it seems resizing images withing LDM is one of the reasons of the high cpu work.

I'm a newbie in terms of using VPS, but his is a sample i got from my support:

User Domain %CPU %MEM MySQL Processes
osito3 ositobarrigon.com 2.45 369.57 2.4
Top Process %CPU 10.2 httpd [ositobarrigon.com] [/dll_resize.php?linkid15&size275]
Top Process %CPU 4.5 httpd [ositobarrigon.com] [/dll_resize.php?linkid378&entityid14&size75]
###

Also, I realized resize is taking lot more than before in anizeen.com. You think it is possible to add an extra image size to have a medium and a regular thumbnail without using the resize script?

Thanks

I couple months ago I moved my vB sites into a VPS. I've realized I'm having memory issues, lately it's been a little problem, so I start checking and it seems resizing images withing LDM is one of the reasons of the high cpu work.

I'm a newbie in terms of using VPS, but his is a sample i got from my support:

User Domain %CPU %MEM MySQL Processes
osito3 ositobarrigon.com 2.45 369.57 2.4
Top Process %CPU 10.2 httpd [ositobarrigon.com] [/dll_resize.php?linkid15&size275]
Top Process %CPU 4.5 httpd [ositobarrigon.com] [/dll_resize.php?linkid378&entityid14&size75]
###

Also, I realized resize is taking lot more than before in anizeen.com. You think it is possible to add an extra image size to have a medium and a regular thumbnail without using the resize script?

Thanks

I think this is possible, but will need some work, which I will look into. I also think you are right that this is a potential cause of high overhead with graphics rich sites such as yours.

v3.0.x of LDM does contain some other settings for reducing cpu overhead (at a cost of extra memory usage), which you might like to test - see the display bit caching settings in the ldm/admin/settings page. I'd appreciate reports.

OK, I enabled display bit caching, let's see how the week goes, thanks Andrew.

Hi AndrewD,

Found a little issue and proberly it has something to do with wrong settings within my forum....

In the downloads the uploaded picture is showing, but in the automated postings on the forum itself the picture isn't display, it comes with the wrong url

hxxp://www.xxxxx.eu/forum/forum.php/UpLoads/imageuploads/211712678157878840.jpg

As you see there is a forum.php within the url.

Do you have any idea how this can be fixed ?

Thanks in advance

Regards,
Marcel

I have the product installed with a generic config and it tests fine with image and pdf files but fails on mp3 file streams. The player window launches and immediately says "Unable to proceed - Error generated by JW player".

There is nothing in the httpd/error_log files on the server indicating an issue.

Has anyone else seen this?

This is caused by a silly bug in the latest release of LDM. It should be cured by uploading these files. local_stream.php goes in the main forum directory; local_links_main_fetch.php goes in the includes directory.

I reinstalled the mp3 file and it worked a treat. More functions etc than downloads 2, well done.

The JW player is a third-party product writen in Flash, and unfortunately it does not (apparently cannot) provide detailed error information when something goes wrong. This message was the best I could do - previously the player was just hanging when it was unable to play the file. One possibility is that the mp3 file is corrupt - you might try the same as Britmovie and simply reload the file. Also check - does the download icon work and does the downloaded file play correctly?

If necessary, I'm happy to take a look at your site.
