the snow flake images are just question marks like the path for the image is incorrect.

I didn't put the directory to upload it to because I thought it was fairly obvious, but I changed the directions around a bit, so hopefully you should understand where to put it. If anyone has any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
If you have any suggestions add them as well, because after Christmas I don't plan on supporting this modification any further.

Merry Christmas guys. Sorry to say, but this thread probably won't get much attention after Christmas, so I am going to unsupport this modification now.

Just a note, one of the snowflakes is a clickable link that will direct your users to this site:

I presume the original poster wanted to add a bit of traffic his way, should have mentioned it though, naughty!

Thanks! I love it and it was so easy to do! I do have a question though if anyone can answer it.. is there a way we could use this to make it snow on our home page as well as the index page?

is it possible to adjust it to show on just one forum rather than in forumhome? most of my users never go to forumhome - they just jump directly into the forum.

Thanks for the mod.
You can have any picture you like as snow just rename it as snow.gif and put it in the images directory of your forum.
Here's what I did with Pedobear on my forum Lolocaust (http://www.lolocaust.org) :D

Installed but did not work for me. I got little boxes with a red 'X' in the center. Not sure how to fix. Any suggestions.

The script he is using if from Dynamic Drive, same as the demo link. The link is part of the script demo. Since he duplicated what was there, the link was duplicated as well.

You don't have your image in the right place. It needs to be in your /images directory.

should also point out the this mod causes not insignificant CPU usage on the client machine, and potentially affects your overall user experience. Looks pretty, but not sure it's worth the trade off. Just my opinion though.

It only works on Forumhome, and isn't meant to be used year round. Even so, it shouldn't be that much of a drag on a todays systems.

You should check before making a statement like that. I can only account for my AMD X4 950 (3ghz / core), where it loads 1 core to ~40% and the other 3 to ~25% using Chrome or Firefox, I think that's a lot for what it is.....
It's a nice touch, don't get me wrong, but my users have complained about this type of thing before. Just passing on my experience.

It's not going to slow down your system when your not on FORUMHOME. And your processor isn't going to be used by a script that, well, isn't on. I'm pretty sure I can verify when a script isn't running, or even on the page, that you're not going to experience any slowdown. :)

If you open the xml file you can copy and paste the Javascipt (everything from: <script type="text/javascript"> to </script>, inclusive) you can paste it into any other template you want, like forumdisplay or showthread or wherever- just paste it right above the </head> in the template.
I know it's after Christmas now but since we're having a blizzard tomorrow I feel now is the right time to use this.
Thanks... but is it just me or do the settings not do anything?

+1
That's a great alternative for those who were having display issues through the XML.

When I make it so the snow goes down the whole page ie:
// Configure how much snow should drop down before fading ("windowheight" or "pageheight")
var snowdistance = "pageheight";
The snow does go all the way down the page but the snow stops coming when it goes below the top of the page. So like there can be no snow at the top of the page, scroll down and there is just a section of snow in the middle of the full page going down the page.
Does anyone know how to fix this as I am having a real problem with it
