How about a tutorial on upgrading a heavily modified 3.x board to 4.x???

Of course Vbulletin.com only deals with unmodified boards and offer little if any help to anyone who is running plugins and products.

Seems like this would be the place to have such a tutorial stickied.

Thanks!!

Here it is in 8 steps.

1. Backup database and files
2. Remove all plugins 99% are going to be incompatible
3. Remove all styles, 100% is goign to be incompatible
4. Delete all files except for includes/config.php (maybe save any images folder as well)
5. Disable plugins/products via config.php just to be sure
6. Upload vB 4 files
7. Run upgrade.php
8. Prosper

I would not uninstall products that did database changes. If you uninstall them, then they will delete any database fields they added and all that information will be deleted with it (like the Thank You mod which has a thanks field and probably more).

So how do we deal with such mods? If we keep them installed, then likely the upgrade doesnt work well.

Sure you may keep them installed - just make sure they are disabled.

I kept mine installed and disable them through the config. It worked just fine. When I got it up I enabled one at a time to see if any worked and to see if there was an upgrade to 4.0 on them. The ones with an upgrade I upgraded the rest I uninstalled. My forums were very heavily modified. TheLastSuperman has a good tutorial in the articles section but its pretty much explained above. Good Luck!
