BlackBerry Development is typically difficult because of the amount of different operating systems / carriers / phones.

There are 2 aspects to this plugin

1) The vBulletin code
2) The BlackBerry App

If you have issues, you can provide this thread with the following:

Your Forum URL
Make and Model of your BlackBerry
Operating System Version (4.5+)
Your Provider
The problem you are having

This app has been tested on ALL simulators for BlackBerrys with OS 4.5+ Installed. (Pearl, Curve, Bold, Bold 2, Gemini, Storm, Storm 2etc.. )

vBulletin Install

- Download the attached vBulletin Code
- Unzip to your forum root directory.
- There will be one file in your root named mobiforum.php and a new directory called m_functions
- Find the config file in /m_functions/config.php and edit it to your needs
- Change the icon "forum_large_icon.png" to your forum icon.

BlackBerry Install

OS 4.5+ and OS 4.7 Storm / Storm 2

Use your BlackBerry browser to surf to:

http://www.BerryBlab.com/

If you can't see our mobile download page, surf to

http://www.BerryBlab.com/MobileDevice.aspx

Once installed:

- Open the software
- Press the "BlackBerry Key" and select "Add Forum"
- Type in the full http://address.com/ to your forum, (where you extracted your zip file), including backslash.

That should be it. Your forum should be listed and you can now surf using your blackberry, natively. Use the "options" menu when you are viewing your forum to sign in.

This software comes with an Update Check for your BlackBerry, so you should only need to install it once on your phone and it will check for Updates everytime you connect with it.

You will (as a forum administrator) have to keep up with the updates on the vBulletin side however.

Demo Forums using BerryBlab

http://www.BerryBlab.com/Network.aspx

Note: Your typical data usage charges apply when using this.

I will do my best to supply as much support as possible for all your phone types / forums.

Please make sure you post a LINK to your forum so that I can test it on my own BlackBerry as well as add it to the list above.

As requested! High res photo's.

I've got it running on my forums - but have a Storm2 - so I am unsure of the real problems. I cannot get rid of the keyboard of course, but I'm wondering why I cannot post a reply when that is done from the bb menu key.

How do you sign up for the beta ? Is the site taking registrations ?

Hey Guys!

Sorry, christmas time and all I've kind of taken a "vacation" - best way to get a response to these errors is to sign up on BerryBlab.com and add your site. There is a "ticket" system which I have created where you can report your errors!

I've got it running on my forums - but have a Storm2 - so I am unsure of the real problems. I cannot get rid of the keyboard of course, but I'm wondering why I cannot post a reply when that is done from the bb menu key.

This version is not supported for the Storm or Storm 2, although i will be releasing one soon.

Just sign up to the site :)

Vacation ? Are you kidding me ? No ! Get back to giving away your time so that I can have this on my Storm2 ! ;)

I hate keeping two threads updated :)

---

Hey Guys.

Sorry about the security issue. Everything is fixed up now.

The PM reply problem will be fixed today, and I will do a release tonight.

.93 is the actual latest version that you can download, so don't worry about the .95, since I haven't done an update yet.

PS. Storm Users ... Today is the day, there will be a beta storm version released sometime today. Just got to get over my hangover from last night :)

^^ Since your forum is marked as "private" you will have to log in as a user with access before it will actually show your forums. This will show up as the error you described above.

Can you give me an account on your site so that I can continue to debug further?

wildo69
01-02-2010, 07:56 PM
being my test site, the forums are actually of.. totally forgot because in the web interface i have the option to login, with this app there is no login option that i could see so it just errored.

once i turned forums on it worked

so the cause was me forgetting that forums were off, but in future versions maybe more descriptive error, or the option to login even tho they are turned off

Storm Users:

http://www.BerryBlab.com/betastorm/berryblabstorm.jad

I will do something official tomorrow with an email, but I'm super tired. If you see this post, then you're part of the few that have the Storm Version now :)

Oh keep in mind if you did install the non-storm version of berryblab, you MUST uninstall it before installing this version or you will get some conflicting errors.

Update

I'm excited about this upcoming release. I have implemented several requested improvements, but it will be a few days before I release both the storm and keyboard versions. I need to test a few more things, the next update includes:

- "Friendly" Error Messages
- Connection Fix - check if the user has been logged out by the system and retry the login
- Notify the user they are not logged in on the main screen, added a button to allow them to login
- Separated forum options and login options
- Added Security Features

I will likely release this as "BerryBlab 1.0".

Forum Owners:

Please remember to sign up on http://www.BerryBlab.com and add your forum to our database. This will be the only way I can "prove" that you have helped with this Beta Test so that I can send you this software for free for your Beta Testing troubles. This is also one of the best ways to keep in touch with the latest updates and events happening at BerryBlab.

ALSO

I know there have been a few emails from people regarding their site not working with berryblab and I haven't gotten back to them yet - it's been hectic (this isn't my full time job) and I'm hoping the next release fixes your issues.

footose
01-06-2010, 02:48 PM
Small Update ..

If you are giving your users the direct link to the download, I would suggest having them surf to:

http://www.BerryBlab.com/

This will automatically detect their browser and put them to a page with the proper download for either Storm or Keyboard device.

If their browser is not detected, the direct link to the mobile site is:

http://www.BerryBlab.com/MobileDevice.aspx

I suggest you change all of your links to the above address to avoid confusion for your users downloading.

I am now fully supporting the Storm / Storm 2 Beta! It is available for download on the above page.

Thanks!

Just installed the code on my site.

Some suggestions/feedback...

There should be clear instructions included in the ZIP file, as there is nothing on the BerryBlab.com site, and you must go back here to find info and support. Just a basic readme text file would do wonders.

No documentation was available regarding the icon, so I just copied and renamed my iPhone/iPod Touch icon.

Also it would have been nice to make the code completely self contained in it's own directory, along the lines of Mobiquo aka Tapatalk.

The first two should be trivial to correct. The last one, I think should be corrected before it comes out of BETA.

Great mod, Thanks for this!! looking forward to the WM update aswell!!
Just one thing, we have some forums that show up, but we cannot access them, they are not private forums, any idea what may cause this??

Still can't get these forums to show up correctly, they are not private, and i can only assume that its an issue with subforums as we have subforums showing on forum home..
Great app though, looking forward to the release of the Windows Mobile version, Dont suppose you'll do an Iphone version will you?? would love that aswell..

Hey There gbechtel:

I will check out your site tonight and get back to.

Also, feel free to add http://forums.crackberry.com to your BerryBlab install! It's probably the largest site out there using it now :)

confirmed functional with 4.0.1 if no one has confirmed already..

Also, i may be interested in paying for a customized version that my users can download that is all preconfigured, please PM if this is an option

on a side note, i do like how it shows which forums have new posts to threads, however when i enter a forum, it doesn't indicate which threads have new posts

footose

gbechtel: try switching your connection settings on this - i can surf the website fine on my phone. Try changing to "BIS-B"

footose

wildo69: i think i can accommodate the 'new threads' option, let me look into it and get back to you.

redhawk89: define "crashes hard" - there should be some error messages we can work with.

Over 6000 people using this now btw!

And I also just picked up some android hardware for beta testing ..

Great to hear! Make sure you add it to our Forum Network so people can find it :)

Just wanting to let you all know I dropped the version 1.0 of BerryBlab (Keyboard Devices) this morning.

I've received the emails from the Storm Testers, so i will get back to all of you before the end of the day. As I said, I'm hesitant to drop a Storm version without testing, although I do believe it will be fine.

As for improvements in 1.0:

BerryBlab 1.0 / 0.13 vBulletin
- Added Spellcheck / SureType / Capitalization Functionality
- Added ability to quote posts
- Added ability to select how many posts you can see
- Added ability to select how many threads you can see
- Added "Loading Forums" at screen startup so there is no "waiting" for the program to start

Although this version of BerryBlab is 1.0, I'm still keeping it in BETA until I am able to get to my test hardware, so you will be able to access the full features of the program for free.

I'm using a curve with 4.2 OS and can't update it (company phone) is there an older version that works with my OS? It won't let me install because it says I am missing a module net_rim_xml_org

I know this says it's for vB 4.0, but is there any chance this will work for vB 3.8? I'm using Tapatalk now but it doesn't have support for Blackberry at the moment and would like to have something for my Blackberry users.

How do I do this registration it insists on me doing?

Hi all. Installed on our forums and on my 9700. Can't get past the login screen on the bb. I can verify credentials (OK) and then I 'save' and just go back to the login-bar screen. Am I doing something obviously wrong? Thanks.
