Say for instance - I'm subscribed to a thread. A new post is posted and the entire response is sent via email... Paraphrased/Quoted below:

Here is the message that has just been posted:

Obviously you know I want to make some witty crack about my...... derriere... I won't though LOL :P

But I tell you until (and if) I upgrade my forums to the 4.0 series - I shall appreciate the hell outta your share for the 3.x.x series

I know there is a way to edit the phrase as to delete the response entirely. But what if I'd like something like the following:

Here is the message that has just been posted:

See. The quoted part of the email text can be customized based on character count. Say perhaps I want only 50-60 characters quoted in the email, or whatever custom amount... Then below is the custom phrase "Read Entire Post & All New Responses To This Thread At" with a link to the thread's newest post.:D

I think this would be a nice custom modification and awesome functionality added, because instead of laying out the whole post - It's like a bit of a teaser enticing your subscribed Members to actually visit the board to view complete post. And hopefully once browsing the board - your Member can actually participate by posting response and/or new thread!

It would be great to see such a modification shared on vB.org. Any takers?

Thanks for the consideration! ;)

BTW - I posted similar thread here (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=230286). Lynne was kind enough to respond with:

I have not seen a modification to do this. I haven't looked into it, but I would imagine you could use the function fetch_trimmed_title (the same one used to make shorter titles or the thread preview) to shorten the message prior to putting it in the email.

So perhaps this modification request may be easy to accomplish? IDK - but I'd appreciate the assistance and/or share! ;)

Thanks,

Jacquii.
