Your mysql timeout is far too low, so its timing out while loading the existing data.

djbaxter

...or your hosting has too many sites on the same shared server, or someone else on the shared server is using too many resources.

Either way, this is a server issue: You need to contact your host.

1. do yout have this problem with all the styles? if not, it's a style problem
2. are you using other hacks related to users and threads? if yes try deactivating them one at a time and see were is the conflict
3. try to uninstall and reinstall first of all

Is there any chance you could change this mod to show users posted

The reason for this is we have a gaming clan site and one rule of the site is to respond each month to the current monthly checkin thread.

It is becoming an issue to have to manualy check through the thread and tick of each user.

Paul M
01-31-2011, 11:05 AM
No, there is no chance of that.

You do know you can see who has posted in a thread by clicking on the "Replies" count on any thread listing ?

Vowgaming
01-31-2011, 07:04 PM
Thankyou for your quick reply and the helpfull tip, this will do the job fine for the moment and once I get familar with vbull I might try and create a monthly checkin module to automate the whole process.

But again thankyou for the tip being new to vbulletin I'm finding new things out everyday.

Hi Paul M,

This is a very handy mod and have it on a few of my forums. Currently on one of my forums running 4.0.8 we also run Tapatalk.

We have discovered that if a post is read via tapatalk it does not register with this mod. Today i updated your mod & Tapatalk to the latest version and still it does not work.

I am not sure if the issue lies with the mod or Tapatalk?
I thought i would ask here first.

Regards,

V8Owner

Paul M

That would most likely be tapatalk not running the appropriate hooks when viewing a thread.

Updated version from 4.0.14 to latest 4.1.2 and that provided the borders...

The indentation of the first name remains - indented.

Hi Paul .... :)

Just updated our site from 4.04pl1 to 4.1.3 and then updated ALL your mods accordingly ...

We're now running 4.1.2 of this mod and I started receiving emails from members that they can no longer view who has read a thread that they started? They now get a message saying that they aren't permitted to view the list of names. (see pic)

I went to the AdminCP and checked, but I have the "Allow Thread Author" box (If set to yes then this allows the thread creator to see the who has read display whatever usergroup they are in.) set to YES, so I'm not sure what the problem is that has changed?

Way back in the earlier version, I had that problem with Google CSE displaying private threads which you verified was a bug and then you had me make an EDIT change to the XML file to fix that, as I wasn't able to update to a more current version of this mod because I was still stuck with 4.04. I only mention it as I wasn't sure if that's a factor in this problem, but I doubt it as I assume the importing of 4.1.2 contained all the fixes necessary?

The authors of the threads are also a members of usergroups which are not checked off with permissions to see the list of names, but that wouldn't be a problem would it?

Any help would be appreciated ...

Regards,
Doug

The authors of the threads are also a members of usergroups which are not checked off with permissions to see the list of names, but that wouldn't be a problem would it?
That would be exactly the reason.

"Allow Thread Author" only allows them to see the actual box - if they dont have names permission then they still wont see the names.

Gotcha ... :)

For whatever reason, these folks who have been complaining are thread starters (authors), who no not belong to the selected user groups, but claim with the previous version of this mod under 4.04 of vBulletin, were able to read the user name list.

Being an Admin myself and part of user groups allowed to view the list, as well as click on names for more info, I've never had an issue with either this version, or the old version.

I'll go back and check the user group options again and see if I can somehow permit the thread starters to see more than just the box by adding them to a user group.

Thanks Paul ... :)

Paul, is there any reason why you don't or didn't leave the older xml versions for others who use the earlier versions of vB 4, so they can still use the mod?

Paul M
11-23-2011, 07:10 PM
It simply something I dont do as uploading the new version simply replaces the old, and I dont support multiple versions - therefore I only make the current version available. However, I have made exceptions in the past for unusual circumstances, so if there is a demand, I may find time to attach the final 417 version.

Well i am running vbulletin 4.1.9 but all i am getting in the box is Array, but i don;t know if it's the mods fault or because of a pre-existing error on the board which prevents it.

Paul,

I had installed your 3.8 version of this mod on my live board a couple years ago and was wondering how to proceed here. I just upgraded my 3.8 forum to 4.1.10 on a testbed on my local machine where I'm adding customization and mods before going live with it on the internet.

After my upgrade I can see that this mod "Who Has Read a Thread" is listed at the bottom of the vBulletin Options list in the Admin CP and when I click on it the mod CP page opens up.

Question (and I tried searching this thread to see if someone else asked about this): Is it best for me to uninstall the vb3.8 version and then install this vb4 version, or can the vb3.8 version be upgraded? I don't mind losing records of who read old threads - that's not important to me. What is important is installing this excellent mod as cleanly as possible for future use once I go live with my vb4 version.

TIA

see the first screen shit in the first post .. click view readers will have a history of what thread those people read ..

I am not looking for a list of what a person read.

I looking to see who has read a post and for it to log each time they read it. Say it's a hot thread and I want to know how many times and when each person read it. Rather then the last time I need every time.

For example. If Bob reads a thread I want to see he read it on Monday, twice on Tuesday and once on Saturday. Record all visits. Not just the last visit.

I have read the info in the first post and I don't see anything that helps me with this.

Am I out of luck? It's a cool hack and I hope what I'm trying to do can be done.

Paul M
02-23-2012, 08:46 PM
You obviously cannot log specific posts, only the thread.

The member view lists every thread they have visited, and if they visit a thread three times, its listed three times. However, there is no in-built functionality to filter the display on a single thread.

Also, the data is only kept for a few days (you can configure that tho.).

speedracer68
02-23-2012, 11:01 PM
When clicking on the "view readers" the list of members that have read the thread appears, however, what is logged is only the latest visit, while prior visits to the same thread are removed. Is it possible to log all visits and not just the latest one?

Installed v4.1.8.0 on VB 4.1.10 but with some questions:

1- aim the forum Admin and want to see which Members who have read the thread for other thread creators not only mine. (If someone wrote a thread, I can not see who read his thread)

2- In my threads I can not see when the users read my thread, I just have this --> Actions : (View-Readers) (Set Date) but when I click on them It says : you do not have permission to access this page!

although I selected yes and all to all the options!!

3- can i move the location of info box, since it is now comes between Similar Threads and Tags for this Thread, can i move it up after Thread Information or even next to the thread it self like in POst thank you hack?

i would like to see small improvement for this modification

1. setting to enable/disable the visibility of reader's names list
(in case i want to see the list there is the view 'readers', so for some forums it's would be more usable)

2. and another setting to make the section be collapsed by default instead expanded
(works only if 1 is disabled)

thanks for considering it and improving the modification

"Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/user/mysite.com/includes/adminfunctions_template.php on line 1059"

I can't continue installation or even uninstalling it, So, I disabled it temporarily to access my threads.

With your skin it's really hard to say what's selected, or what isn't. If you want to select all usergroups in first option (Usergroup restrictions) just select All, not all usergroups, but option All (at the very beginning).

I'm aware of how it's SUPPOSED to work - however regardless of the settings, it's NOT working.

It is working, but its not controlled by anything in your screenshot.

Its the "View Thread Readers Usergroups" option.

Again - yes - I'm aware of that.

Forget the screenshot - I was only trying to show that I had tried BOTH the single "ALL" entry as well as selecting "ALL the entries".

The point being is that I have it set for ALL to view who has read - yet only Admins can view the info - the rest of the usergroups is shows the "No Permission" error.

There is some actual issue other then the implication that I'm not setting it correctly.

As I stated, its working fine (I have tried it on two different test sites) using both the ALL option and selecting individual usergroups.

Hey Paul, in the "Members who have read this thread" listing, how can I get rid of the html markup on usernames?

I've learned that this is typically done by replacing username in the code with musername.

I came across this string of code:

$wrt['header'] = construct_phrase($vbphrase['wrt_who_viewed_threads'],$readlist['username']);

...and made this change:
$wrt['header'] = construct_phrase($vbphrase['wrt_who_viewed_threads'],$readlist['musername']);

But this didn't do it for me, which leads me to believe that another instance of "username" must be changed to "musername".

Can you tell me please which one it is?

TIA

Paul M

I think you have it backwards, musername is the Markedup username.

How often does this feature update itself? Example; I created a thread and then saw where two additional members posted in it not long after I did. I then look near the bottom of the page of the thread to see who all has viewed the thread and it only showed my name. So in other words at least 3 people that I now had viewed the thread, but it only list one name.

Sorry,

For some reason:

$wrt['collapse'] = '_collapsed';
Was:
$wrt['collapse'] = 'collapsed';
in the plugin code. I checked the product.xml file and saw that it was correct.

Paul M I Didn't know where to ask
Vb4.2 has your mods integrated in it
and it disabled this one when upgraded..

this mod had the "Actions : (View-Readers) (Set Date)" But it's no longer there
is it gone ? or I have to turn it on?

If I turn this mod on, all is there . but It shows the one vb has in it as well
and the one that was disables ( this one) shows Actions : (View-Readers) (Set Date)
and the vb one doesn't

any info on this would be greatly appreciated

Those functions are not in the 4.2 core, only the basic functionality was added.

There will be a modified WRT product on vb.org, to add most (if not all) of that once 4.2 has been released (and I have the time to release the new mod version).

I installed this after upgrading to 4.2.0 (first, uninstalled all previous plugins).

So, I had to import the whoread table from my old database via phpmyadmin (I emptied the new db whoread tables frist). It imported 23MB. However, no difference shows on all threads, especially sticky threads that have thousands of views.

What did I miss to update the stats?

Thanks

So if I am reading this correctly @Paul M, once I update my site to 4.2, I will lose the features you list in black, until you release an update? This means all usergroups will be able to see the list of who read? Currently I only let my staff see it, and we use it along with your member tracking mod for tracking purposes and to see where people go in the site. It's too bad some of the best features of your mods are missing in the core move to vb4.2

Paul M

Nope, I think you have misread something.

after installing i figured it out. the permissions are in the usergroup manager. when i read your list, i took it to mean the ones in brown were built into vb 4.2, and the ones you list in black would be unavailable until you released an update for 4.2.

some of the things in black are in 4.2 core, but the one that is most important to what staff does on my site, specifically number 9 (9. Clicking on a user will display a page of their thread viewing history, most recent first.) does not seem to be available in 4.2.

to get around it, i disabled the vb 4.2 built in one and re-enabled your 4111 version. it seems to be working just fine

They are available for 4.2.

You should remove this completely and use the 4.2 Thread Reader Enhancements mod.

So all the data from this mod is no longer usable.. in vb4.2 (it wasn't carried over)
when it uninstalls the table is still in the DB with all the info in it.
was the table spared for a further merge? to move it over /integrate into the core version?
or can / should delete it?
thanks

Paul M
06-10-2012, 11:35 AM
The table was spared in the upgrade so you could, if you wanted, transfer the data over.

However, you would need to write your own code or queries to do this.

Note: If you uninstall the old version via the Product Manager, it will remove the old table.

ah yes ok, see what happens when you dont read everything... me = :fail:

question though, is there any reason why i shouldnt keep using 4111? it seems to be working and i want to keep my previous data. I use it for tracking and reports, and I am unfortunately not good enough to write my own codes and queries to do it

Paul M
06-10-2012, 12:55 PM
There might be a variable name clash between them on some of the settings, and duplication of the functionality, other than that I think it would probably work ok.

Hello, any idea what may be causing this error? Conflict with another mod? Rewrite rules?

As I look at it, it comes up when someone tries to click Next Thread when the thread is the last one and there is no next one. I would think that it shouldn't show "Next Thread" but the link does show and when one clicks it with this mod, it returns this error.

So it sounds like something is not standard on your forum.

Its actually working for you.

The issue is that you have "Who Read - Collapse on Load" set to yes, so the display is collapsed when you load the thread, and because you have "Show Users Browsing Threads" also turned on, the arrow to uncollapse the display is misplaced (as per bug VBIV-15424 (http://tracker.vbulletin.com/browse/VBIV-15424)).
