Getting ready for the upgrade when 4.0 goes gold.

I've installed a 4.0 version on my test site to play with it and see how youtube videos are handled through a "video" tab.

My 3.8 version is using the popular mod that allows you to merely post the youtube link and it takes care of the rest.

Although I haven't tried it yet, I'm going to guess when I convert from 3.8 to 4.0 all of the youtube posts on my forum (and there are 100's) will not display properly. The only way I know to fix this will be to manually go in and edit each post using the "video" tab in 4.0.

Please tell me there is a better way!

There is no way that I've discovered.

When I make the change I'm going to let the users know if they want their videos changed they need to do it themselves. Or if one of the mods sees it they can do it.

But it's not that big of a deal to my board. Of course, if you have a board that deals with and is required to have a lot of video links I can see how this would be an issue.

I've got a music board with about 4,000 posts in it. There's a fair percentage that have video links handled by the mod. I don't really see my members going back and editing them. Definitely too much for me or the mods.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

afaik the links to the videos will stay if you disable the mod that converts them.

Which mod are you using?

Which mod are you using?

AME - That Automatic Media Embeder v2.5.5

Probably the smoothest mod I've ever used. Simple as can be and the members use the heck out of it.

Not sure I'm understanding you... but the links will stay after the conversion I'm sure. It just definitely dumbs down the board by losing all those video enhanced posts.

Quite franklin the mod with 3.8 is easier and requires less point and clicks than the new method with 4.0. However 4.0 pretty much defeats the need for the mod now that there's a native way to do it.

You can run the option under tools for AME that will convert all links from AME coded ones back to normal URL links.

Seems like the solution for me would be to run the option as you suggested Stryker412 and then find a coder that could turn all those links into the new code required by 4.0.

That is one way. The other is to upgrade to AME3 for vB4.0

That would be perfect. Is it available? Do you have a link?

Type AME 3 up in that search box in the top right hand corner and you will find this.

PassiveVid seems to be working for me still in 4.0. ONly problem is I had to disable it, at least temporarily, because I'm having problems with the log out (getting white pages) so thought maybe this last plugin I still have on the site may be the problem. But after disabling it, I can see it's not.
