This is interesting. Why would it start working in 4.0.6 on it's own?

Ok....I guess I can starting thinking about 4.0.6

Because they changed something after 4.04 and changed it back after 4.05?

The same reason it worked in 4.04 and stopped working in 4.05.

It doesn't work at all in 4.0.6?

Mr Coder, sir... will you be providing an update for this to those wishing to upgrade to 4.0.6? I am currently running 4.0.3, but wish to upgrade asap to .6, however, as I don't know the outcome of performing the upgrade with this hack intact, I'm unwliling to upgrade just yet.

Some hack authors, like Mr. Zeropage (arcade) emails his users (of his hack) once he's updated, could you perhaps do similar?

Also, you said:
The good news is that /finially/ vb seem to have taken notice of this bug report: http://tracker.vbulletin.com/browse/VBIV-952
What do you mean, they've taken notice? There is still no one assigned to it that I can see. My screen claims only that it is a confirmed issue.

ps - just to add, this IS perhaps the most useful hack I have employed throughout my three years on vbulletin.

Just tried re-enabling this for 4.06. I get the following errors (actually the same one x4) on the CMS page:

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in [path]/includes/class_postbit.php(321) : eval()'d code on line 21

I had this installed for a while and just kept updating vb. Now with the 4.0.6 update the mod seems to have started to work properly again. I don't see double posts or missing comments anymore. I'm hesitant to remove and reinstall it since it's working, I kind of don't want to poke at it and break it. :)

What ahcnged in this version of vB?

Folks, I installed this on 4.0.6, and it appeared to be working really well.

However, someone reported they couldnt post to facebbok from a thread reply.

Digging into it, i didable mods one by one, and it was only when disabling this, the facebook post from threads worked again.

Can anyone else confirm if this is a prob for you also?

Thanks

Hi Carnage. Thanks for share this useful mod.

Suggestion:
It's possible add a feature to this, that hide the editor for comments when the thread is closed? I notice that the article doesn't accept new comments when the thread is closed, but without any warning to the user. The post simply doesn't appear.

Hope you can figure how add this in future versions, if come.

Videx

I too was wondering how it deals with closed threads. We have all our threads set to close automatically after x days, so there's a good chance articles will have closed threads.

I just sort of assumed if the associated thread was closed, comments would go to the default comment forum. But your idea is a better solution.

Is the attached hooks_vbcms.xml ok?
When I look into the source there's hardly anything in it. If I compare it to the alpha-file the difference is huge. Maybe that's the reason that I get this error when I try to import it?

Well, it depends on your situation - if you really want to use the vb CMS in a similar way to vbAdvanced; for example you may just want to highlight the best threads from each of your current forums a featured posts section; thus you want comment threads in different forums.

> > Having discussions split is issue in the roots of forum software. Promoted post splits discussion. It needs double admin attention, it breaks thread, users start to talk about same things in two places. Even commenting capabilities of cms article are limited. So it is wrong.
> > Article comments should be linked with promoted post. No new thread started, if article is promoted post. Article comments should be displayed under article and as forum thread.

I'm having an interesting problem. When we post a regular Article it lists the article twice in the What's New? listing. Once with Article: in front of it, and a second time without that. Yet both posts point to the CMS article.

Any idea why this is happening?

I should add: I updated to 4.0.8 but it broke my theme, so I downgraded back to 4.0.7.

Carnage
11-18-2010, 07:59 PM
it's possible that the comments thread in the comments forum is coming up and the article itself is coming up. I don't think that this mod is specifically responsible: check the settings for your default comments forum.

carrlos
11-21-2010, 11:46 PM
Carnage-, is it me or are all threads promoted to articles absent from the "New Forum Posts" and "Forum Threads" sidebar blocks when using this mod? And subsequent comments? Solution?

Carnage
11-28-2010, 02:38 PM
I can't say I've noticed that happening but it could be because the system is now treating those threads as cms content... do they appear in recent cms comments blocks etc?

carrlos
11-29-2010, 12:13 AM
Yes, they do. Do you have a work-around? My users like the sidebar blocks (which I have temporarily removed) and have asked for them to come back.

So when this becomes a part of 4.2 how will the upgrade work? Will I need to disable this mod/uninstall it before upgrading?

Carnage
11-29-2010, 05:13 PM
Yes, they do. Do you have a work-around?

I've just had a quick look at the new posts block. The main db query that generates it strips out the threads which are associated with a CMS article. The work around would be to remove that condition in the query. You may then want to limit the forum(s) selected to not select from the normal cms comments forum.

I really couldn't say at this point. Since I'm using this on my own forums I will need an upgrade path myself so will be planning + developing one once vb 4.2 is available to me.

ok, go into includes/block/newposts.php

Find:

$posts = $this->registry->db->query_read_slave("

thread.threadid, thread.title, thread.prefixid, post.attach,

JOIN " . TABLE_PREFIX . "thread AS thread ON (thread.threadid = post.threadid)
JOIN " . TABLE_PREFIX . "forum AS forum ON(forum.forumid = thread.forumid)
LEFT JOIN " . TABLE_PREFIX . "user AS user ON (post.userid = user.userid)
" . ($this->registry->products['vbcms'] ? " LEFT JOIN " . TABLE_PREFIX . "cms_nodeinfo AS info ON info.associatedthreadid = thread.threadid \n" : '')
. ($this->registry->options['avatarenabled'] ? "LEFT JOIN " . TABLE_PREFIX . "avatar AS avatar ON(avatar.avatarid = user.avatarid) LEFT JOIN " . TABLE_PREFIX . "customavatar AS customavatar ON(customavatar.userid = user.userid)" : "") . "
WHERE 1=1
$forumsql
AND thread.visible = 1
AND post.visible = 1
AND thread.open <> 10
AND post.dateline > $datecut
$globalignore
" . ($this->userinfo['ignorelist'] ? "AND post.userid NOT IN (" . implode(',', explode(' ', $this->userinfo['ignorelist'])) . ")": '')
. ($this->registry->products['vbcms'] ? " AND info.associatedthreadid IS NULL " : '') . "
ORDER BY post.dateline DESC
LIMIT 0," . intval($this->config['newposts_limit']) . "
");

remove this line:

. ($this->registry->products['vbcms'] ? " AND info.associatedthreadid IS NULL " : '')

but leave the ." on the end.

There is a big bug!

If you have a couple of comments in the thread and there is pagination used in the CMS-Artikel.

You click on Page 2 or some page >1.
Then there is a redirect to another post in the forum!

====
Edit:
I found the error.
But how to fix this???

CMS-Link: community/content/xyz-106/
The proper thread in the forum: /community/f10/xyz-101/

And when I click on page 2 in the CMS-Article I'm redirected to:

/community/f5/this-is-a-completly-anoter-thread-106/

The problem is the 106 in the URL of the CMS-Artikel and the 106 in the URL of the forum-thread.

Example: Now I've some posts with 20+ reply, and I can see only 20 messages per page, then I have to click on the next page to continue reading messages.
Can I see every messages in one page or change the pagination from 20 to 30-40 messages?

If I had to guess, I'd say replies wouldn't go to the feed because they aren't actually being manually posted. But we already knew that.

If the only issue is replies going to the feed that isn't even that big of a problem. Why not just use the forum feed then?

I use RSS mainly to tweet out new articles automatically. If that works fine, I can upgrade.

There aren't any settings to configure.

when a thread is promoted to the front page; this mod prevents vBulletin from creating a new comments thread for it. Instead the original thread is used for comments.

This is the best product ever.

Any greater functionality planned? Though this pretty much accomplishes everything it needs to.

For your information:
There's a bug using this addon combined with the dp-sphinx search. Basecially all new posts show up as article comments, bypassing the vb4-rights management, in the sphinx-delta. And therefore internal posts are visible for all users via the search function. That does not happen in the sphinx-fullindex, so if the posts get older the problem does fix itself.

Cause of this bug:
The newpost plugin of this mod changes the parentforumid and therefore breaks an if condition in the dp-sphinx makeing it true every time.

This FYI is meant for admins who are running both addons and most likely will never see it happen without someone telling them.

First of all, thank you :)
I would to display my article as first post in thread: I think it's not so hard. I know PHP very well but I never wrote plugin for vb.

My problem, for a better optimization, it's how can I save a boolean in thread record to know if there is an article connect?

It's simple enough? Anyone can help me?
Thank you again :D

Thank you for this mod, however maybe you can help me..

Is there anyway i can disable the show replies below the article that have been promoted.. and rather link the comments link to the original forum thread?

My users are confused they don't know where to reply, either forum or to the promoted article.. so one place would be ideal..

any help much appreciated.

This mod seems don't work on vbulletin 4.1.8.

When I post on a forum thread of the promoted one the article comments don't show the new comment.

Any Idea?. I don't want to uninstall this mod for only this issue :(

For anyone interested (i managed to resolved by myself), the mod still works on 4.1.8 the only "fix" tha resolved the issue is setting the permisions on all sections and subsections of the CMS (CP Admin menu -> Vbulletin CMS -> Permisions) and clear the system cache.

After going to 4.1.10 I can no longer make comments from the CMS page, has to be done from the thread or clicking go advanced.

The comment box is grayed out for some reason and I can't put in any text.

Works for me on 4.1.10. for the comments appear I'm just disabled the built-in vBulletin cache and now all comments or post appears instantly and got a decent forum performance.

SocketTF, any chance you could let us know how you managed to disable post cache, and do you know if there are any problems that this might cause for other forum operations?

Really really want to get this working and can't believe its not a standard function in VB4!

Sure, in your admin cp go to Options -> Server Optimization and configuration options -> then check "Yes" at the option near the end of the options group called "Deactivate Content Cache" (or something, I got my cp interface in spanish).

And yes, this must be a standard function in Vbulletin.

Is there anyway you can give the option when clicking on comments to have it link directly back to the forums post rather then the CMS article front?

Looks like it's working on mine. I just promoted an article, used another account to post in that thread, and it's populated in the CMS section.

This is such a duh thing that should have just been the way.

What an excellent modification! Marked as installed and nominated.

4.1.11 should finally provide this setting build in.

@Carnage, have you checked out the alpha or beta and have an idea what we as users of this modification have to do to switch to the 4.1.11 version without breaking our old articles?

Ok well the CMS is working well for me with it disabled or enabled so a generic answer may not resolve everyone's issues. What you need to do is realize some boards are modified and what works for some may not work for others.

Any suggestions?

I also removed this mod after upgrading to 4.1.12, but I do not have the same functionality that this mod previously provided.

Are we missing something in the 4.1.12 settings, or is this mod still needed.
