How do I get the avatars to show up? They show blank now

I'm on V4 and the avatars used to work (although small) but now they show up as blank white with ""'user name' avatar"" in text in the box.

I looked at all my settings and can't figure it out. All the settings are for show avatars and the sizes are ok.

When I click on the text in the avatar box, it takes me to that person's profile. The pics do not show up on the profile pages either.

Checked the usergroup settings and they have avatar enabled with dimension sizes and resize avatar checked and so forth. I don't recall changing anything between the time avatars worked and now that they don't.

Am I missing something?

Is this an upgrade of a live site or an upgrade of a test site?

Actually, have you done a search on vb.com to see if this problem has come up? Issues regarding vb4 should be posted over there, not here.

I have done a search and this is a fresh install, we started over.

The avatars worked at first but now anymore.
