Will 3.5 hacks/mods work for 3.8?

There are a few hacks I saw for 3.5 that I liked, but I don't want to downgrade. Would mods designed for 3.5 or earlier versions work for newer versions like 3.8, or will they only work for their respected version?

Some mods made for 3.5 work just fine on later versions. Just read the thread and usually users will post when a new version comes out to say "This works on 3.6" or "This doesn't work on 3.8" or something like that.
