I'm not the only one to have trouble with a part of vb4, in fta2k's 3rd pic the bit where it shows replies and who posted, time etc are still the default colour, does anyone know where to change this?

It is just a beta right now so a lot of changes can take place. Until it goes RC or Gold there won't really be a wide range of styles except those that do theirs.

Still working on vB forums Beta 4 to get my custom style done, once forums 4 goes Gold I'll upgrade my current 3.8.4PL1 to 4 then work on suite4 on my test site to finish the style for the blogs & cms... besides incorporating the rest of my site into CMS articles... that's gonna be a lot of work. the 'replies' & 'last reply' *is* in the stylevars but I can't remember which one... of course one of the 'background' ones, it also changes the background in another area as well... whick makes it look fonky... but what's even fonkier is if you use another color for sticky threads... then it's really whacked =S

How did raistlinthewiz customize his width to be like that for his forum so that he could display a background picture easily. I've been trying to do that but I always mess up some of the dimensions, wierd proportions, any have list of settings to help?

You mean to add an entirely separate category frame just for those links! Don't you think it would possibly clutter the style a little too much. I placed those links where they are to attempt to reduce the clutter a little, vB4 is a mess of clutter!

Yes that's what I meant. Well I guess things are just of personal taste. I see what you mean but that category frame (Who's Online) seems kind of cluttered in my personal taste. Don't get me wrong though I love the work done there. I just think it is what's of personal taste. Maybe I am still kid of stuck with the way things are/have been? I want a design that empahsizes the content rather than the skin itself. My style is therefore pale, compared to most. It's made that way to match the rest of my site. I have only done the forum so far, the CMS and blogs will follow. The site has fixed width, centerd in the browser.

Yeah that got to me too.

The background is put into the doc_background var... The background color is the color which ends on the bottom ("#2D1312") and the background is the image ("url(ESO/img/mbg.jpg)"). Then with a no-repeat, it looks perfect.

I am a total Noob at this; only been playing with VB for the last year. Got through the upgrade with only minor setbacks here and there. Not too bad. The more familiar I get with the CMS the more I like it - a HUGE improvement over vbAdvanced. Last big job is to upgrade vbGallery to Photopost Pro and re-link with the site. Changed my images first before I upgraded to vB4 then did the upgrade, went perfectly. I then changed all the Style Vars, what a job that is, here is the mostly finished work. Style 1 a Red and Black style a lot of changes:

My skin is an adaption form my vbulletin 3.X Skin.

Now. I really did notl ike the nav bar of vBulletin 4.X so the first thing you will notice in the screenshot is the fact that the navbar is rather different to normal vbulletin 4.X skins ^^ It's like a hybrid between 3.X and 4.X =]

Second thing you will notice is I abolished those CSS Buttons and put back the old fashioned image buttons. =] After some testing and tweaking I got them working just like the old ones. =]

Anyway I feel I am only 30% done so far and as I am in a rush I am sorry for the rather low quality screenshot below =]

I'm FAR from being done, but this is what I have so far. I'm still having many problems with the spacing between the columns. Some of what shows in the picture is due to my screen resolution being 1440x900, but even when I set my resolution to the standard 1024x768, it's still off quite a bit.

I think, the new stylevar system is useless and is a barrage for an individual layout. But peoples without any CSS/HTML skills, can change colors very simple and fast.

This is an IPB style that I converted to VB. I am not the author of it and no you cannot purchase the VB version of it from the author. I purchased the IPB skin and converted it myself. IMHO, Dragonfly makes the best skins period! I wish she made them for VB.

I just went live with the upgrade last night, been tweaking my style for the last 2 months during betas and rcs though, and will probably continue to tweak now that I'm actually using the forum vs my dev one where I was just doing quick tests.
It's basic changes but colors are consistant throughout all pages and I like it :)

I have to say that I like the color combo and layout. Have you upgraded to vB4.0.02 yet? If I could only find one that looks similar to yours, I would be a fairly happy camper. Previously, I was using RedBar for vB3.8.4 that was mildly customized and loved it. Unfortunately, these vB updates are killing me and my forum traffic.

For some reason I can do just fine with others and finishing their styles but I'm so darn OCD I can't square mine away LOL!

Here's a paid style I own for 3.x series, the developer has not updated to 4.x yet however I asked and they gave me permission to update and use in a subdomain on my site so this is a clone of my 3.x style in 4.0 format with custom css including the navbar and custom wrapper codes for anything else I want to add in ;). I also utilized the old tabs as I wanted to keep them instead of removing them. I did replace the standard navbar sublinks making them links to the forums instead and the tabs have new css as well for a custom drop down menu by Dynamic Drive that works well in all browsers with a slight fade effect.

I want to change the color of the category strips on the main forum page...but I cannot for the life of me figure out which stylevar it is....what is it called...PLEASE....I'm so tired of looking through these settings and testing things.

I don't know if this counts or not, but I got the skin from forum-skins, then spent the better part of the week changes colors and making new icons. I still have more work to do. I have never done this before. Plus, I still have the problem of when I mouse over a forum or thread the highlight of the whole thing is black. If I could get rid of that, it sure should help me a lot. I was stuck with a lot of light strange lime green links for them show up. The clocks I did in flash because hosted ones took too long to load. I am not half bad at graphics or flash but still learning vbulletin.
