Install Two Forums side by side on same server

Can someone tell me how to install the new 4.0 for testing only, on the same server as my 3.8.4 forum is running on now. Want to install it for testing only. When all is well I will do full upgrade. If I use the same config and data base it try's to upgrade the forum. When I put all files in a different folder and run script it fails. I am missing something in the config, I am sure. Has anyone ever tryed this???
