If there is an alternative way of doing this, please let me know below:

I downloaded FileZilla and have HostGator as my hosting. When I put my info in to Filezilla I can't connect which doesn't let me upload my forum to my domain website.

Anyone have anything they could share to help me.

This sounds like an issue you should bring up with HostGator support.

I also use hostgator and had the same problem once.
When you log into your cpanel you will see your sites "dedicated ip address" on the left towards the bottom
log into the ftp using the ip instead of the domain name and it will most likely fire right up.
example
ftp://123.456.789.012
hope this helps.

Yes, thank you so much.

Now I have to figure out how to upload my Vbulletin board to the site though? How do I get it into my laptops documents. Sorry, I am very new at this.

Have you read the manual - Installing vBulletin (http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/install)

Thanks a bunch again, but now I am stuck on step three. I can't find a text editor program that will open the config.php document inside the upload folder.

Basic notepad should work just fine. (I think that's what it's called for a PC.)

Well when I click on it it says that I don't have the software to open this up. So, I don't know what to do. I wanna open it up correct?

rename it from config.php.new to config.php, then edit with notepad.

Thanks you guys. Now I can't seem to finish the installation. Every time I put in the address in the broswer that it suggests me to do so, I have nothing show up except a HTTP error. So, what do I do now? Do I put in an address somewhere in filezilla to create the directory?

I'm trying to redo the process but, I am very confused right now.
