I know, I did that several times. It just appears that something in my set up does not allow changes to the style. The only style I am able to modify (and have it reflect the changes) is the new Default style that got created during the upgrade process.

I can create a new default style, but none of the changes I make to it show up. It's like the default stylesheet is stuck.

This wont be a problem with the skin, please try re-installing your vbulletin installation or upgrade to the vB 4.0 BETA 4.

We are testing skins now in vB4 BETA 4 but we are sure there have been no major style changes.

if you go in a category.....in the forum-headers is the colour of the text "black on black" "Sub-Forums and Last Post".

and by mouse-over "in showpost" it is the blue from the orginal-skin.

This updated change the Style of the CMS system when creating a new article - however the 'Front Page' still displays as the previous style.

Hi

I upgraded to beta 4 prior to updating Simple Black.

If I look in the stylevar editor settings the colors appear to be correct. There may be a problem with VB not updating the style for the CMS.

I got it to work.

I needed to actually apply the new style in the edit section of the front page.

Thanks for the style! Some quick suggestions:
(1) The styling of polls still needs a lot of work.
(2) The tools drop-downs within forumdisplay are difficult to read. They show up as black text on top of a dark gray gradient.
(3) The mouseover look on the breadcrumbs items makes them less visible as opposed to more visible. Leaving the text as black while still lightening the background should fix this.

The total background colour?

Styles & Templates > Style Manager > Simple Black > Style Variable > Document Background Color > Select from the colour pallet (click the current gray colour in-place and it will bring it up, alternatively you could go into photoshop and create/use the eye-drop tool to get the correct colour you wish.

The template/uploading of template wouldn't of caused that, make sure that you did actually have 3 columns or you didn't change them in the process.

Ive just tested this and yes it does hide behind the post, but this also happens on the default vBulletin skin.

If it does the same for you on the vBulletin default skin then it is most likely a vB4 error and yet to be fixed.

However i will further look into it.

I've had this problem with 2 styles I've uploaded now. The only one that's worked properly is the vB 4 default.

It seems that all my styles are doing this, can you confirm this with another style which i didnt create (design247.net) if the problem still prosists its most likely a problem with vB.

Yeah, I didn't create any for this specific template, But it wont be hard to change the colours of them yourself.

Ok, Due to the fact that RC1 is coming out on December 11th there's not much point fully updating it and if there are style changes in RC1 ill have to re do it yet again.

Yea, I think it was the text color but that doesn't make a difference because the Jelsoft License states that not only can the copyright footer not be removed, but you can't hide it by using an "invisible" text color.

I have no idea how to modify that skin, and as it stands, anyone that uses it is violating their license. Even if its a mistake.

So I'm trying to point out to the developer that it needs to be fixed before people using that skin start getting their websites shutdown.

Maybe a stupid question but are you sure your using the Beta 5 XML for the skin? Because I'm not having that problem in Beta 5 on a clean install. There is a new version of the skin released for Beta 5.

Everything is looking fine on my end, are you sure you installed it correctly, I re-checked the XML file and all the colours are correct and there is no way I would of hid the vBulletin Copyright.

Yea, I installed again and got the same thing. I never said you tried to cover up the copyright. But somehow its not showing.

It only happens when I have at least one thread created and click the "What's New" button from the menu. If I go to the page manually for some reason it works fine. Not sure what the difference is.

What are you trying to do? That makes no sense to me..

Are you trying to make the default skin on the CMS SimpleBlack?

The only way to make it default is using the steps in the thread, if that doesn't work its a problem with vB not making it default.

After making it the default you must go to the CMS page and edit the settings. There is a drop down box where you can choose the style.

While logged in to your forum as an administrator go to the Home (CMS) page.

If you mouse over the front page section you should see a pencil appear - clicking that will open up the settings/edit page.

Once you are in that page you will see a drop down box for styles.

The attached screenshots should help.

Side note. Everything looks good. Only issue I have is that the widgets don't really match the theme the way I would like. I don't know if its something that just wasn't touched upon, or maybe it is something I will just need to modify myself. Anyways, thank your Style.

Yeah, doing a straight upgrade from either BETA 4 or BETA 5 will make that current skin mess up, you will have to download the RC2 Style.

Also, content.php completely ignores the style. When I click on the home link it uses the default style even when I have this one selected.

Edit: The style goes randomly in and out on various pages, example: (these are from a FRESH install I just did today, not an upgrade).

They are both using this style.

Are you sure this is a skin problem? Because as far as I am aware this skin does not modify any templates (except the footer for copyright details). Is it possible this is a vBulletin bug?

I haven't tried it yet, but the vBulletin.com forum told me to do the same thing. So that is probably what is causing the problem.

Thanks, I really like this skin. I want to use it. I marked it as installed so I should get notified when you post the new version. I think gold will probably be released tomorrow because they have scheduled that date, and haven't said any delays yet. So far they been pretty good at keeping up with release dates for the last few versions.

i think one problem. it is very difficult to see "what is a link" i think here we must change the colours.

the seperators between the articles "vbcms_content_separator" i have changed to black.

the same by the blogs. so you see who is end of the article or blog :)

at show forum the header is blue and the same by private messages, here are on the left site the headers blue.

You need to go into the ACP of the CMS and set it IN the actual CMS itself.

I still can't get it to work for my CMS either. My CMS is setup to use the default vBulletin style, so I don't know why vBulletin has to make this so complicated. This new vBulletin is all messy.

Also, it seems to cache the style because in one browser my forum uses the default style but in another browser it uses the black style.

Try setting it as SimpleBlack in your CMS instead of default, If that doesn't work delete the style and re-upload it and try again.

A Purple version is planned for after Christmas.

The "Title / Thread Starter" bar, announcement bar, and in some areas the page numbers are still blue.

Nevermind if this was intended, just seems a bit out of place in the rest of this theme.

It works fine for the CMS.

While logged in to your forum as an administrator go to the Home (CMS) page.

If you mouse over the front page section you should see a pencil appear - clicking that will open up the settings/edit page.

Once you are in that page you will see a drop down box for styles.

Its interesting. I don't know why that happens, because this style does not modify any templates. It only modifies the built-in stylevars. That alone will not cause this problem.

Have you also tried asking on the vBulletin.com forums to see what the vB staff says about this? Have you tried intalling another style, just randomly pick one from this website and install it. Then see if you have the same problem. If the other style does it as well then its just another bug in vBulletin.

I thought it was just a color issue. I would recommend first uploading another style to your forum, just to test it out, then report back when you have done that. You can always uninstall the other style after you have tested it.

I'm interested to see what happens.

I would complain to vBulletin then because I don't see how this could be a problem with this skin. This skin does not modify any templates (except the footer template where the copyright is placed). It only changes colors so there is no way that this skin could cause that.

If you are having other problems with other skins, its a vBulletin issue, and there are thousands of bugs in this new version of vBulletin so I would not be surpised. Over half of the stuff doesn't work correctly in my expierence. Just take a look at the bug report list on Project Tools for vBulletin.com.

Just another side effect of the crappy vB 4.0 design. You'll need to manually change the style in every single one of your pages you want the new style to effect. They did not make this new version very user friendly.

Download the fluid and re upload the xml.

I just downloaded it and tested it on a test board and it worked perfect, let me know if it doesn't work and I'll upload a new one, But it will be tomorrow.

If you where using SimpleBlack on anything else but gold and upgraded to gold this will NOT work, DELETE simpleblack in the Style Manager and re-upload the new version. An upgrade/overwrite will not work.

hey right, i downloaded the xml, then used the upload/doadload thing to upload it as per instructions on the first page. i got some error that i should have copy pasted here, and the skin makes the forum just blank white, i need to delete it to see anything. :( Could you go over the install instructions one in detail please for fixed version, also what is the difference between fixed and fluid? thanks

--Possibly you installed the folder in the wrong location.
--If you have the setting that you will allow users choose their own template, be sure you have chosen the new template from the drop down menu on the lower left side of the footer.

For some reason the size of the information on the left of the post (don't know the specific jargon, but it's where the username, avatar, posts, etc. is listed) determines the size of the text box in the post. I'm sure it's a simple coding fix, but if you could point me in the right direction I'd be very happy :)

Thanks so much for the SimpleBlack. My users love it. I've got one issue. When a user inserts a link its showing up as the same color and font as the text in the post. How can I edit the CCS to fix this. I would like it to show up in blue for inserted links?

We'd really like to use your style, but it has an unacceptable bug. The subnav drop-down menus for "Community" and "Quick Links" don't work properly. They render underneath the next template instead of on top; this makes the drop-downs unusable and thus blocks some navigation functionality.

I should have been more clear. They do work in Firefox, but not in IE 8. Default template is fine...

Do you have a paid version of this template that works any differently?

I really like this template and have uploaded the xml. However there are a couple of things I'm trying to tweek like colors of text and backgrounds etc. Nothing major, just trying to get it along my color scheme. Is there a way to get the actual template files so I can adjust the css.php?

Im not turning away potential customers, I'm only offering better support (still for free) within my forum, its extremely brief what i give on these forums.

Your bug is clearly unique and may be caused by a bad modification, I have no idea as it installs and works on mine and also other members.

As for the SimpleBlack "N" Thats an option, Its still the exact same style as the one you get here with many features like; AddThis, Google Stats, Twitter and lots more.

1. On my website I now have 2 home buttons?!
2. The backgrounds on each actual post aren't white anymore they're the same colour as the background, even though the postbit background style var is set as white!

Any help?

in my board this style don't show the Word "construction"

The words:

construction - c o n s t r u c t i o n

looks in other styles like above - but in the simpleblack-Style like

why???

and - can you fix it? because i like the style.
