How do I add a status icon to subforum link in a left sided menu?

I have a left sided column menu with links to various subforums. How do I add a status icon after each subforum link to indicate a new post/thread? You can see this left sided column menu at www.justdavesforum.com/forum/

The correct place to ask is in the modification thread where you got the modification to make the side bar. They may be able to help you. Otherwise you will have to look through the vb code to see how they do it for the forums (it depends on your forum markup type) and then modify your query to grab this information when it grabs the forum title and id and such.
