Big News block contains the latest links, you can only set more than 1 link for big news but not define a specific one to be in it, for the current version. :)

You can customize how many links to show per page, how many big news, how many per row,etc...:rolleyes: , all can be done via AdminCP

I do not like the MOST current setup.. I do like the layout of the other latest news blocks.. I would just like those two only to be displayed without the most current block, so the text is not centered, only justified.

Yes I have thought of category when I first code it, but it comes to be too unecessary so I dropped it. Apologies if that is a stupid question - I actually know very little about coding AJAX and how the plugin works in general. Though it is running very well over at my site (http://www.fictionpost.com) and I have managed to configure it to nearly the way I want it by editing the php file.

1. It is definitely something I try to avoid. Because it loses the flexibility of having different kind of news from multiple categories at first, second if it automatically pulls new threads then a TopxStats MOD could do the same..
2. I believe you must include the PHP file in a PHP Module, I have not any experience upon vBadvanced installation though.

Yes I am the coder of the MOD but not for the others. I can only provide support within my knowledge since I never touch vbPortal. I know it might come to be a great idea to add the support for vBadvanced and vBPortal but I mainly design it for the vBulletin forum only at this time.

Some ideas sound pretty great and I'll include them in future versions. However, "get image/video from thread content" is definitely skipped because it will generate alot of problem and consume too much CPU resources since it has to goes through many different threads content. Look, the News Description supports BBcode, so if you have a flash bbcode tag, you can use it to embed some video clip already ;)

Yup I'll note that and I'll make collapsible block next version. However, the MOD is mainly for forumhom index at the current time, for any other additional locations I'll give detail instruction later to fit everyone's need.

;) the height totally depends on the number of rows, which that again depends on the amount of news link per page you have set up. If you mean to have it cover by a div tag that has scrollbar, you could open up the dnp_news template to do so.

:) Oh not that space is inserted by purpose. You see , vBulletin built-in collapsible script is not working quite well with AJAX so this is the only alternate compatible method.

What version of PHP are you using ? I have many of my friends who are webmasters from different forum to test this error but none of them happen to come across it.

About the method of pulling news from forumids, this cannot be implemented because of the following reasons :erm: :
Execute too many queries (slow down the block)
This is a manual news block, if it does getting threads automatically it's rather be replaced with TopXStats or some similar MOD.
Even though if it could grab thread info, the description and thumbnail will not be as accurate as manual edit at all.

yes and it would work if I positioned it around the template. However I was trying to figure out a way to put a small adsense adblock where the news images themselves are. Have an adsense ad as the "latest news" image.

Oh google does not let ads to be reloaded in ajax div (http://www.google.com/search?q=adsense+ajax). Until then, we have to live with it.

Have you uploaded the files and folders? Access your forumhome folder/dnp_news.php sees if it shows up.

and in admincp create new option: "suggested DNP news"

when usergropus is allowed to create DNP news - the thread go into admincp "suggested DNP news" queue and it must be approved by admin/mod

No, not at the moment because first off the mod was not designed for vBadvanced.

Yes the link is the tut for hooking the mod to different location on forum. You can configure the News order in the Options of the mod under AdminCP. Other ideas seem good but in second consideration, I need to keep the mod optimized and as fast as it currently is.

The modification uses one query for all the content. It even saves you bandwidth with the AJAX feature therefore the whole forum does not have to refresh itself to switch pages.

I had to disable the module for this for my Portal page to show again, and enable the plugin for the news to show on my homepage. It wont work together. Please help me to get this working on both. Thanks!

I have already explained to you about the 4 queries you see via the PM

The MOD is using a different way of approaching the data it stores and the AJAX has its method to retrieve data, asynchronously. It only runs one query, the other three come from vBulletin's global.php and class_bbcode.php which are duplicated and does not actually run themselves again.

Now, go ahead and try the steps

- Go to Plugin Manager > DnP Custom News plugin, change Hook Location to forumhome_complete instead of global_start.

vbSEO does not fully support AJAX, however if you worry about SEO, all search engines will see the rewrited URL since search engines does not execute javascript. I'll see what I can do to extend the URL length limitation by this weekend.

I do think it is compatible with vb4.0, in fact no advanced vb3.0 modification would be compatible with vb4 at all. I'm unable to afford vb4 at the moment so I cannot develop MOD for it yet.

I'm pretty sure he won't help me out because I belong to a competing site http://virtualcustoms.net/ and there was a big rift over posting work from Virtual Customs on there site without permission and claiming it as there own, but I didn't follow it all that much so I don't really know. Needless to say when I asked him what he did to get it working he refused me and seemed to know exactly who I was. Said he knows how I feel about him and CreativeX even though I never got involved in the mess or said anything to or about them.
