Ask hostgator support to check your DNS and nameserver records.
Sounds like they are incorrect or haven't propagated yet.
EDIT**
Quite often this can help.
In a command window type....
ipconfig /flushdns

There is a problem with your DNS records
They report as FAIL Mismatched glue
ERROR: Your nameservers report glue that is different from what the parent servers report. This will cause DNS servers to get confused; some may go to the IP provided by the parent servers, while others may get to the ones provided by your authoritative DNS servers. Problem record(s) are:

There is another explanation. Your IP may be firewalled.

This is hostgators issue and they need to resolve it if you dont have access to edit your dns records on their service.
As Loco stated, if they wont help you, get a better host that knows how to support a customer correctly.

I had exactly the same problem when I moved to hostgator
The issue was the nameservers and the DNS records had to propagate
until it can propagate you can check your website using the following URL
http://IPaddress/cPanelusername
Don't use hostgator chat, use the ticket system or call them

Open command prompt and type in tracert then take an image of that and give it to your host.
Heres instructions
How to Use the Traceroute Command
Traceroute is a command which can show you the path a packet of information takes from your computer to one you specify. It will list all the routers it passes through until it reaches its destination, or fails to and is discarded. In addition to this, it will tell you how long each 'hop' from router to router takes.
In Windows, select Start > Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt. This will give you a window like the one below.
Enter the word tracert, followed by a space, then the domain name:
copy and paste or take a screenshot and upload the image and send this information back to us in a support ticket.

Glad it's resolved. Amazing how initially they told you it was fine, yet they see a bit of bad publicity and they suddenly fix it. .
