Just had a site built in Drupal and even though the possibility of having a pretty sweet community (IE Pop Sugar), the odds of finding a tech who can use the modules and open source end of Drupal to mimic that is almost impossible.

So....

I am looking to use VBulletin since there is a module to sync the Drupal end with it. My main question is, can you have it where blog posts from the VB blog feature are synced with the forum? Meaning if someone makes a blog post, it could be tagged to go into a forum post also? I know on the Community Server open source you can have it where the blogs are synced into the forum posts. Is this possible on VB?

Also, with the mods that are out there, will they all work if the VBulletin is synced with Drupal or will I run into compatibility issues? If so (can't use the mods), would it make sense to host VB on a sub-domain and just use the Drupal site for content and the VB as a community?

Thanks in advance.

We're in the same boat you are in. Given that (1) the Drupal - vBulletin integration is a fork and not true Drupal and (2) the vBulletin licenses we were going to use will now cost a ton of money to upgrade, we decided that the Drupal forums with existing add-ons more than do the job. The bridge has no long term future, especially now since development for 3.8 is dead. Most of the "hacks" are not needed in the drupal forums and, for the most part, the functionality and appeal of what is vBulletin is being approximated with drupal forums and the integration that it provides with profiles. It just takes more work but I think you'll see more of these "premade solutions" that will make it easier to install everything more quickly. Going forward we are going to use Drupal with drupal forums or provide a full integration of Wordpress with an open source forum like phpbb or one of the others, which is also much easier and painless to integrate.
