Reduce button spacing to 0

I've put up some odd buttons in my latest theme. To get the effect I want I need them to butt right up to each other to give the illusion of one continous back ground. Please see the attached image to see what I'm up against.
And would it be possible to color a stripe that runs from the left side of the post to the right? It would be the same as the button back ground. If it can be done.

I haven't tried this but you may try to add background to this in postbit template:

<div style="margin-top: 10px" align="$stylevar[right]">

Cut a small piece from the button background and add "background: url(background.gif) repeat-x top left;" to the style tag of the above div.
