I want to create a new tab with set info that the user must fill out.

I created a new category and placed the info fields in there. However my problem is that this now shows on the tab i created and on the About me tab.

How can I force it to only show in the new tab and not double display. This info will be something members have to provide on sign up and will not be allowed to change this information.

What do you mean by "new tab"? Is this like in the user profile or something?

Yes. in the user profile. where the About Me tab.

It creates the New tab in the profile fine. But it displays the information in the new tab in the About me tab as well.

Wrap a condition around the memberinfo_profilefield_category template - if $id NOT 'aboutme' and category[title] NOT 'whatever your category title is', then find, do the template.
