I want to start a thread, allow users to see the thread and reply to it, but not see other users replies to the thread?

You can set the permissions so users cannot see other users Threads, but you can't set it so they can't see other users Posts.

yeah found that option, for some reason when some members post a thread they cant see it themselves

I'd check to see what their primary usergroup is and then check the Forum Permissions for that particular usergroup in that particular forum.

permissions were coppied to all user groups , everyone gets the same permissions

If someone is not able to see their own threads, then there is something wrong with the permissions. Or, you have a modification interferring with the permissions.
