Sorry, this user is protected from being altered in the config.php file by the $config['SpecialUsers']['undeletableusers'] variable.
is there anything I can do about this without reinstalling ?

Yep, download the config.php file found in the includes directory of your forum open it in a editor not MS Word or MS Office, use dreamweaver or notebook. And change the value of the Undeletable Users on the file. It most likely has your ID number in the space, just take it out and leave the space empty if there are no other numbers in it. And it should allow you to edit yourself after that. Then save the file and upload again overwriting the last file.

What option exactly did you try to change? Even with your account set to be undeletable, most options in the UserCP should work. The account can not be edited using ModCP/AdminCP.

I can't change the limit on my inbox and I really need it bigger than 100

That is something you set in the usergroup.

@BlueNinjaGo, I was about to link to that.
@Everyone else,
Most FTP applications allow you to edit it live (without having to download), although secretly it downloads to your temp, saves to your temp and re-uploads itself. FileZilla is good for that.

Ill go give it a try but it seems as though I was getting the error when I did it, perhaps it was because i was using the user and not the group
