switch to 'pay to access' forum

We were looking into switching our forum over to a cost based forum. What would be the easiest way to accomplish this? Creating a new user group? We currently have about 2000+ members and we know that we may loose some for doing this, but we also know that the ones who stay are the actual contributors (plus the spam is unreal anymore).

Is there a tutorial somewhere on how to switch over from free to a subscription based forum?

you mean like, people paying for a subscription for access to a certain forum? or "Pay to register" ??

All forums would be locked except the one that describes how to pay for their subscription
