View Full Version : Cannot create new thread until member closes their previous one?

I'm looking for some sort of plugin / mod that can offer the above restriction.
Basically I want to be able to stop members to only have x number of threads open in a particular forum (they have open/close permissions).
So I require something that checks if they have x open threads, and if so throw up an error message of 'please close your previous thread before opening a new one'.
I'm sure there is something out there, but my search terms are failing me.
Thanks.

I am having a hard time understanding what you want. So if I create so many threads on your forum you want me to close one before creating another one? Why would you want that? just curious

That's exactly it Mr Kirk :)
Basically it's for a classifieds forum, to ensure people close off old deals before they advertise new goods.

Oh I understand now, I don't think they have anything right now that does this. I have seen some classified adds addons somewhere and it might have some options like that. I am pretty sure I seen it on this site.

Thanks.
I've searched through classifieds addons, but none seem to do this, not even as part of a bigger package.
I understand the logicistics of what the code needs to do, but lack the actual programming skills required to implement it into vb.
So still searching!

You may want to post in the Requests for Modifications (Unpaid) or Paid Requests forum and see if anyone is willing to tackle this for you.

We have this modification - I paid Kirk_Y to write it.
It's for our classifieds and it's combined with the archive thread facility which allows members to archive their classifieds when they are complete. The system auto archives them after a month of inactivity in order to ensure classifieds are kept current.
The settings are in the forum maintenance page.

That's pretty much what we're looking for.
I've sent you a PM.
Regards :)
