I have seen other websites (non-vbulletin) using a system like this - a combo of "category" and "total karma" with success. It puzzels me why anyone havent don a more complex rep mod than the simple "collecting points":
Drop down menu with categories for rating each post:
Very informative (2 points)
Relevant (1 point)
Funny (0,5 point)
Neutral (0 point)
Irellevant (-0,5)
On the edge (-1 point)
Flamebait (-2 point)
Category for a user = category with most votes (displayed under avatar) (of course this example is generic - It could make a lot of sence in a forum where there are, given the nature of the subject/purpose of the forum, different categories of answers/users)
Karma for a user based on sum of total points (displayed under avatar)
•Super (+100 point)
•Good (50-100 point)
•Ok (10-50 point)
•Neutral (-10 - +10 point)
•Ufortunate (-10 - -50 point)
•Bad (-50 point)
